View 1 RepliesI want to format my MBP 15" (non-unibody). I have all the Discs (leopard) that came with it. I also have the SL Upgrade Disk. I did not do this before so I do not know how to do it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes a mac come preinstalled with any software that is 'first time' only, and is not included on the install DVDs? I am expecting a mini shortly, and don't know whether to upgrade the HDD straight away, or clone the original disk. I'd rather do a new install.

So I have XP installed on my 27" iMac, and that's is cool news. I also have a windows 7 professional upgrade disk, that bootcamp won't recognize. I would just blow away that partition and put 7 on. I don't care for any of my data on the XP install, I just want to get 7 on there with an upgrade disk.
How can I boot from the upgrade disk inside XP? Or is there another way?
If I try and install from inside XP it tells me it can only be done (configuration sets) from Windows PE (Preinstall enviroment)
as in I need to be booted from the disk.
How do I accomplish this? I also have a 2009 late iMac, which means that the video drivers don't work out correctly, but I already remedied that with making the video driver usb drive that fixes the issue. I just need to figure out how to get to the point to install.
I have a 1 year old macbook and just received a new mac mini. Can i use the new OSX disk to upgrade the macbooks ilife only?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I currently have windows XP running on the boot camp partition of my macbook unibody (Before they were called 'pros') and I want to purchase Windows 7 for this machine, my plan is to use a vista upgrade, then the windows 7 upgrade in order to get Windows 7 home premium on my machine (I get windows 7 upgrade for only $30 seeing as I'm a student)
So I am wondering if there is a way to do the upgrade or if I have to start with a full install every time I want a new version of windows?
Has anyone had any luck with upgrading the current 2010 MacBook's hard disk? If so which drive did you use? I've just upgraded using a wdc5000bevt scorpio blue and it seems to be giving me these EFI related problems (constantly parking the heads). Has anyone successfully tried the Samsung hm641ji drive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from OSX 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard (single license) on one of my two iMacs, and then installed Lion. Is my Snow Leopard disk now liberated to make the pre-Lion upgrade on the second computer, since it is no longer operating on the first one? All of the hardware meets the upgrade requirements.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2009 mac has been telling me the start up disk is full so I thought to save iphoto and itunes to an external drive. But I have been advised to upgrade the os first as I am still on snow leopard. Before I buy lion (I can't wait for mountain lion) can I upgrade while the start up disk is full? Or will it not let me (it won't do the updates that are coming through at the moment)? If I save iphoto and itunes to the external drive first will I still be able to access them/ properly?

I'm trying to help a friend fix his MacBook (white plastic) which has the folder with the question mark issue. I figured I'd do a clean install of Leopard but when the installation disk boots, it says it cannot detect Tiger which is necessary for the upgrade. I tried erasing the partition, but it gives me an error and stops the operation.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, I'm a new owner of a MacBook Pro 13" and the Hard Drive is only 160GB I believe which is plenty of space for what I use it for but I would much rather have my Music/Movies/Pictures and all media separate from that space. I was just thinking of getting a portable External Hard Drive for all of my media but then I could also upgrade my 160GB drive to let's say a 500GB Drive and do away without an External drive. What would you do? Upgrade your existing internal HD or get an External HD?
The MacBook Pro usually just stays on the desk anyways so an External HD wouldn't be any inconvenience to me but if I wanted to just unplug it and go will that harm anything? Also, there is plenty of External Hard Drives available right now and I was wondering if any were better than others? I just want something basic, portable, and works with a mac. No firewire needed, USB is fine with me. I was really looking at the My Passport from WD and was wondering if the non Mac Ready versions work with a Mac anyways? [URL]
I have an early 08 MBP that shipped with Leopard. I upgraded it to Snow Leopard quite a long time ago. I feel like doing a clean reinstallation but my Leopard disk is spoilt.
Is it possible for me to do a brand new clean installation just using that Snow Leopard upgrade disk?
After upgrading to 10.5.7, numerous permission errors highlight regularly in Disc Utility, which I run weekly (probably for too often). I never saw these with 10.5.6, or for that matter any earlier incarnation of the OS. I have also noticed progammes hanging more than before (especially Mail). I have run DiskWarrior and that didn't report anything untoward. Should I give up worrying about this and maybe join the Foreign Legion instead?

Since upgrading my MBP 13" to Snow Leopard, I'm having intermittent connection problems with my Airport Extreme Base Station (5ghz band) shared 2TB USB WD MyBook Studio drive. The connection appears in the finder sidebar but the main window header shows "connecting..." and frequently does not connect. Resetting the router is only a temporary fix.

Any suggestions how to get rid of large files!

I have a 21" iMac and a Mac Mini, both of which I upgraded to Maverick a week ago. Since then, I have not been able to get Time Machine to backup. I can connect to the disk through my network, but Time Machine does not recognize it exists. I have gone through User and Groups, I have checked everything I can think of through System Preferences, and nothing has worked, including Sharing. I have another computer and am able to backup it, after programming the mini.

I just want to let you know that I am really thankful for your help.
This is a 3-year old iMac version 10.4.11
I upgraded Safari as recommended a few days ago, and since then, Safari has not worked at all. At the same time, I was warned that my startup disk was full. Following the advice from some other mac help sites, I cleared the copies of my iTunes library to free space. I now have 6.72 Gigs of free space on my hard drive, but my computer is still running super slow. Just about every other thing I click on in Firefox gives me the rainbow wheel.
I ran Techtools and everything passed but the Directory Scan and Volume Structure.
As soon as a friend can loan me a hard drive, I was planning on backing up everything and re-installing. Is this the best thing to do, or is there something else to try first?
I recently just upgraded to Snow Leopard two days ago. Since then, I have lost the Hard Disk drive icons and I don't know how to get it back. In fact, I have no icons on my desktop at all except for the external hard drive that I have plugged in. How do I get my icons back? Especially the main hard disk one.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Lion, I have been having problems backing up to Time Machine using a LaCie external disk. Time Machine worked fine before the upgrade to Lion. The backup usually starts correctly, but after backing up around 1GB, I get the following error message: "The disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before unplugging or turning it off". The disk has over 80GB of space available.

I am kicking around between upgrading video card in my 1st gen Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 dual core, 8gb ram) from 7300 Gt to ati 4870 vs. upgrading to a newer system altogether...
Newer MP has 2 x 2.66 quad cores, 12 gb ram with the 4870 card.) What kind of improved performance might I really expect or even notice when using photoshop, light video editing, 3d graphics.
I have not included costs because I want to focus on the performance boosts sans cost for the purpose of this discussion.
