OS X :: Installation Disk Boots - Cannot Detect Tiger Which Is Necessary For The Upgrade

Sep 10, 2009

I'm trying to help a friend fix his MacBook (white plastic) which has the folder with the question mark issue. I figured I'd do a clean install of Leopard but when the installation disk boots, it says it cannot detect Tiger which is necessary for the upgrade. I tried erasing the partition, but it gives me an error and stops the operation.

Power Mac G5 :: Can't Boot Into Tiger After Leopard Installation Fails

Nov 25, 2007

Installation of Leopard on my Power Mac G5 failed. After that, I can't even boot into Tiger. Whenever I power on, it just stays at the grey Apple screen. I thought changing the hard disk might help. But my experiments proved that the same behavior persists even without any hard disk. Power on, "dong", grey apple screen: that's it. What happened?

PowerPC :: Using OS X Installation DVD In Order To Install Tiger To IBook?

Sep 3, 2009

A friend of mine got an iBook G4 14" with a 60GB HD that wasn't working, so he exchanged the HD, but now he is not able to get the iBook up and running because he doesn't have the installation DVDs for Tiger or any other OSX

My question is, could I use my OSX installation DVD (Tiger) in order to install Tiger to his iBook and get it up and running? I have my original installation DVDs and everything that came with my iBook, but I don't know if those will only work with my computer, or if they're limited to be installed in one computer at a time.

OS X Mavericks :: Force Shutdown Now Only Boots Into Disk Utilities

Jun 28, 2014

I had to force a shutdown as Safari, mouse and Word would not respond. Command+Option+Escape would not work.

Turning on now will only boot into OS X Utilities with options of:

1. Restore

2. Reinstall OSX

3. Get Support Online

4. Disk Utility

1. Trying to restore I found my backup but the next screen lists no hard drive at all??? Can't go on.

2. Can't reinstall OSX Mavericks as when I click on the "Recovery HD" it says, "This disk is locked"

4. Disk Utility says everything is fine

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Running Disk Utility - Mac Boots Up Normally While Holding C

Jun 14, 2012

I want to run Disk utilities on my mac. Have done this before using system disk and holding C etc. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard from Leopard it no longer sees my system disk. Restart holding down C with system disk installed...and mac just boots-up normally! Ultimately I want to run the disk utility to check that the Hard Drive is healthy after install.

Software :: Installation Of OS 9 Disk Drivers W/o Disk Utility?

Jul 9, 2009

How can I download/install OS 9 Disk drivers for an already formatted hard drive?I was not able to exercise the "include OS 9 drivers" in the Disk Utility formatting process on a LaCie Drive because I needed to have also a 32GB partition for Windows-FAT, and when I chose the Windows-FAT format option, the "Include OS 9 driver option" disappeared from Disk Utility Program. The consequence of this is: my OSX main partition is not visible by my other Mac running OS-9, while my MS-32GB is normal. The main partition was formatted with HFS+ but with no "include OS 9 disk drivers" possibility.

MacBook Pro :: Disk Utility Does Not Detect Hard Drive

Aug 2, 2010

Just installed a new HDD into a macbook pro that was dropped. Seems fine, loads the disk and then says it can install the OS, i load up disk utility and theres no hard drive int he list just the optical drive and the DVD, its not the disk that came with the mac itself its either my proper retail one or the one that came with my personal older macbook which might be the issue. Ive taken apart and reconnected the HDD and all seems fine internally. Are there any issues that cause this except not using a full retail disk which im going to try later on, just wanted to rule everything else out.

MacBook :: Repairing Disk With Another Installation Disk?

Jun 30, 2014

My startup disk is almost full so I tried to repair disk in Disk Utility but only 'verify disk' was available, which led to the following error message: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk." I have recently moved countries and cannot seem to find my installation disk anywhere (stupid, I know). Is there another option, such as using someone else's installation disk (since nothing is actually installed from the installation disk in this process, right?) or does it have to be my own installation disk? It is an old MacBook (2007), running OSX 10.6.3.

OS X :: How To Upgrade From Tiger To Leopard

Jul 28, 2010

So I went into an Apple store yesterday to play around with the Iphone 4 and it just so happned the store I was in had the phone in stock. After playing with it for about 20 min I decided to purchase one. I was obviously all excited on my drive home.

Once I get there and plug in my phone into my Macbook I get an error saying my operatin system needs to be version 10.5.8 or higher. I'm currently running 10.4.11. So now I have to update my software which Apple said would cost me $169 (I don't feel like spending that cash so I will be returning the phone today). As far as the antenna problem, I had my 3gs and 4g side by side all night and morning. The 3gs definitely has more bars in almost all locations.

With that said I never had a dropped calls or no service to make a call with either phone. The bars on the 4G fluctuate A LOT more than the 3gs but it still does the job. The build week is 30 on the Iphone4 and when I touch the bottom left corner I do lose 1 to 2 bars right away. This message is in no means trying to bash the iphone4, it's just simply an update for those guys/girls that are still on the fence on purchasing one.

Is it true!? because i don't want to waste $30 for nothing Would i be able to run logic 9 after this upgrade?
my only goal is to run logic 9. I have no interest in any of the features that come with leopard or snow leopard

OS X :: Mac OS X Upgrade From Tiger To Snow Leopard ?

Apr 5, 2010

I am helping a friend upgrade a three year old iMac from 10.4 (tiger) to 10.6 (snow leopard), she has purchased all the software 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 upgrade. For some reason she never moved to 10.5 even though she had the DVD. In addition I wanted to have a "clean install". The first thing I did was make a backup of all of her files. Then I booted 10.4 from DVD and used disk utility to erase the hard disk. Next

I booted 10.6 from DVD and selected English as the language, then I get the following error: "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer. It requires a previous installation of 10.5."

Do we really have to go from 10.4 to 10.5 to 10.6? What a pain in the butt!!! Any ideas on how to skip 10.5? I already erased the hard disk.

Here is a link that recommends a clean install:
