Software :: Unable To See Ssh From My New Imac?

Jan 16, 2009

I am unable to ssh from my new imac to remotely login to computers that my old powerbook is able to connect to using the same network. I know that there is no problem on the receiving end as I have had a number of conversations with IT team whi say my computer is not blocked and that they have no record of an attempt to remotely login from the ip address of my computer. When I try to ssh from my imac to any address I consistently receive the message port 22: connection refused. This message pops up instantly as if terminal isn't even attempting to connect. I suspect that there are some security settings on my imac, perhaps involving the firewall that are preventing me from sshing but I do not know what these settings might located or how I might change them.

IMac :: Unable To Open IMac Memory Cover - The Screw Won't Turn.

Oct 25, 2009

I don't know what the deal is. I'm trying to install 2 sticks of 2GB into my 7,1 iMac, and the screw just won't turn. I'm using a standard Phillips head, and nothin' doin'. The screw is now starting to strip, so I guess I'm going to have to take this into the friggin' Apple Store just to have them open the thing.

IMac :: Unable To Rip DVDs

Nov 22, 2010

So I recently installed my 120gb OCZ Agility 2 SSD into my superdrive bay and using a USB DVD drive but here are my issues, I can't rip a full dvd in Handbrake (it will rip up to 25 minutes and tell me its complete) and I can't play DVDs using the DVD player program. Was there a different way to format the SSD and relocating the home folder to the original 1TB drive?

OS X :: Unable To Burn DVD With IMac G4

Jul 2, 2009

I used Totast Titanum 10 to burn the DVD's. The settings I used was to burn Data Disks with "Mac Only" or "Mac & PC". Before I eject the dvd-r after burning, I test the files burned in the dvd if they can be opened by the appropriate application directly from the burned dvd.

For example, I checked if .mv4 files can be played by either Quicktime, iTunes, MPlayer OSX Extended, or VLC; checked if disk images can be mounted and files on mounted disk can be opened; and checked if unencrypted movies that I personally own (using MacTheRipper 3.0) with Video_TS and Audio_TS folders that were compressed by DVD2OneX 2.3.1 can be played on Apple DVD Player.

IMac :: Unable To Boot Up

Jul 27, 2010

Whenever I turn on my computer, I see a flashing folder icon, occasionally interspaced with a globe icon. I read elsewhere that this lasts for several minutes, but it can go on for an hour without pause. I tried booting up from my install disc, but couldn't get the computer to acknowledge it.

I was able to start installing with a 10.5 upgrade disc, but was unable to complete it because the computer did not already have 10.4 or later on the HD (for the record, I was on 10.5.8 before it crashed). I tried restarting it from the Network.

I can't even access my HD through a firewire cable; the HD simply won't show up on the host computer's screen. I'm pretty sure this means that my HD is hosed, but I thought I'd ask to make sure.

OS X :: Unable To Use Yahoo Mail On New IMac?

Apr 25, 2010

I have a new iMac with Snow Leopard and do not have the following problem with my MBP using Leopard nor have I been able to duplicate this problem on new iMacs at the Apple Store.

Normally on other computers, the Yahoo Mail email header is at the top of the screen, the view pane is at the bottom of the screen and when I double click the email header, the entire email fills the screen in a new tab.

On this new iMac, double clicking the header does nothing; the email stays split on the screen with the header at the top and view pane at the bottom and no new tab.

I've tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome and the problem is unique to this iMac. Any suggestions? Is there a preference that I'm missing?

IMac :: Unable To Boot From External?

Aug 31, 2010

I have an intel iMac (2.4 Ghz C2D) and at the beginning of the year I purchased a Drobo. I have all my data on the Drobo, and decided to move my home folder to the Drobo. I discovered I could not boot as the admin if the Drobo was not connected.

I want to use Super Duper to clone my HD on an external so I can boot from it on my Macbook when I travel. My internal HD on the iMac is 320GB but only 60GB is used (applications). The home folder on the Drobo is 300GB's in size. If I partitioned a 500GB drive say one partition being the home folder and the other partition the internal drive on my iMac would I be able to boot from the external?

When given a video card update (esp from using windows) it almost always improves the video card. Apple releases the flicker fix update and I don't have a flicker issue. No screen issues at all really.

I feel like it's Russian roulette. Update or not? I know some people will say don't fix what ain't broke, but what exactly is IN the fix? Is it exclusively for the flicker issue or does it update/upgrade other aspects on the card? Mine has the ATI card in it.

OS X :: Unable To Use Migration From Imac G5 To New Mac Mini?

Mar 11, 2010

My Imac G5 stopped working. Bad power supply or logic board. I took out the hard drive put it in an enclosure and ordered a new Mac Mini.

When the mini arrived I used the migration assistant to move everything over. Here are some issues:

1) Microsoft Office is there but the applications will not start up. I get a pop up that says that "this application will not work on this type of mac".

The Icons are also greyed out with a stripe through them.

2) I Work '08. Same as above.

I did check to see if there were any trial versions of this software on the mini and there is not.

I've also tried to look into the Old Hard Drive and see if any files were not moved over.

When I access the old drive it will not let me get into certain folders because it says I do not have permission. They have little red yeild signs beside them.
