OS X :: Program For Creating Guitar Tab Or Chord Sheets?

Apr 22, 2010

I have a 2009 MacBook Laptop and run Mac OS X version 10.5.8. I also bought the Microsoft for Mac package (cost about $90) a while back because I was going back to school. So I basically use Microsoft Word as my word processor/document software. I play guitar and whenever I figure the chords out to a new song, I frequently create a new document where I paste the lyrics and then add the chords in the appropriate places. Then I can always pull up that song and play it. So its kinda like sheet music. Also, I'll point out that I'm not talking about tabbing a song,...which really means identifying individual notes that are picked. I always try and get the song on one page so I can play the entire song without having to scroll down half-way through. Even when I eliminate the margins, view the page full screen, etc....frustrated that SO much of the screen is being wasted. The actual words in the document in reality only take up a small portion of the screen...making it tough to read,...especially if I lose my place.

Any guitar players out there (or otherwise) know of any better applications or word processors that would allow me to maximize the amount of lyrics that would fit on the screen? Perhaps the solution lies in a different way of configuring or viewing Microsoft Word? Hopefully the question is clear enough. How to fit the most amount of text onto one page and then have that page take up the entire screen without wasted space. I'm thinking that no matter what suggestions I get, one good tactic would somehow involve creating columns or even putting two page side by side (neither of which I'm sure how to do).

OS X :: Way To Turn My Boot Camp Win OS Into Movable VM?

Jun 28, 2010

I use VMware Fusion to boot my boot camp partition as a VM but I can't figure out a way to export that "VM" into VM image files that I can then move off to another OS X machine and load it up.

I want to rebuild my Mac Pro and would like to first move my boot camp Win7 VM to a proper Vmware file(s), copy on over to my Mac Book Pro and then blow away my Mac Pro and do a clean install without having the boot camp partition even in place.

I'm not attached to VMware Fusion either and wouldn't mind having the option of importing this boot camp VM into Virtual Box also.

Power Mac G5 :: No Boot After Initial Turn On - Fan Goes Haywire

Nov 27, 2007

And then open the begger up to find the Serial number, prod a few things, close up, then it starts? Anyone advise what's going on. Could it be it was too cold? My office gets cold? Could it be that I am turning the plug off at the switch when I don't use it and then it sometimes is bad to start up after a few days. Someone be strict with me and tell me what I am doing wrong (should I even be turning it off at the switch once turned off?)

PowerPC :: Unable To Turn Off/turn On IBook G4?

Jan 4, 2009

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.

This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).

Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Turn Off/turn On A Bluetooth?

Apr 14, 2009

I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:

1) Bluetooth is ON:

I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.

But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)

2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:

But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.

It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.

Back to 1)

What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?

This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.

I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.

Mac Pro :: Unable To Boot / Kernel Panic At Boot And Graphics Card Failure

Mar 9, 2008

Yesterday my screen (30" Apple Cinema) started showing symptoms of graphics card failure, jagged lines across the screen. I rebooted my Mac Pro and it was gone. Then it happened again an hour later, this time the machine didn't boot, I get the Apple logo, and then it hangs up and the screen is shifted to left (I get apple logo on left side of the monitor instead of the middle) and jagged lines all over.

So the first thing I tested was using Target Disk Mode, it works. I can access my Mac Pro's internal HD's by TDM from my MacBook Pro. Then I tested single user mode, it does boot, I can't read what's written since the screen is shifted to left, but if I type (without seeing) reboot and hit enter, it reboots. So I assume the single user mode is working.

What else can I try to 100% make sure it's my graphics card that failed and everything else is ok with Mac Pro? I already ordered a graphics card replacement but I wouldn't like to be surprised if the Mac Pro still doesn't boot when the card arrives. It won't boot from Apple Startup DVD either. Same thing happens, gray logo then kernel panic with jagged lines all across the shifted screen.

IMac :: 27" Wont's Boot Up / Takes A Very Long Time To Boot?

May 15, 2010

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM

In the second week the boot up times became very slow.

I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.

Then just a black/blank screen.

Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.

Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).

I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.

I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.

But now when I switch it on just darkness.

I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

MacBook :: It Won't Boot After Trying To Repair With Disk Utility, Cannot Boot In Safe Mode

Jun 11, 2012

I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD.

I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".

I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.

Intel Mac :: Boot Partition Error Message - Mid 2010 I7 Will Not Boot Past The Apple Logo

Apr 8, 2012

My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok.

Power Mac G5 :: Cannot Boot From DVDs - Defaults To External FW Boot Drive With 10.3.x

Dec 20, 2007

This is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.

MacBook Pro :: Boot From External Firewire DVD / Optibay-Boot Camp?

Oct 13, 2010

Is it possible to boot from an external Firewire DVD Drive? It certainly isnt from an external USB DVD. Real answers only please, not "I think so" ones based on HDDs or rumours you may have heard!...

Background:
I've got an MCE Optibay in my Mid-2010 i7 MBP. When installing Bootcamp it refuses to install from the external USB DVD drive. In the end I pulled the 2nd HDD out and reconnected the internal DVD. It then worked fine without a hitch. Then I reinstalled the 2nd HDD and all was fine for a few days.

Now I want to resize my Win7 partition (bigger, as MS Visual Studio's bigger than I thought, and I might stick some games on). I can shrink the OSX partition fine with Disk Utility, but windows won't grow the Win7 one because the empty space is before the Win7 partition, not after it. Apparently this can be done with GParted. Guess what? I can't boot the Linux based GParted CDROM from the external USB DVD drive! So, will a Firewire one work where USB fails, and solve my alternative OS booting issues? If I buy one I can then either use GParted, or delete the Win7 partition and start again without having to pull the laptop to bits all over again, only to put it back once I'm done, and possibly have the same issues in the future. Obviously I don't want to blow extra money getting a Firewire DVD drive though if it's a waste of money...

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Won't Boot Past Apple Screen & No CD Boot

I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

OS X :: Slow Boot After Installing Windows Vista Using Boot Camp ?

Dec 25, 2008

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .

Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.

And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .

So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.

And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

OS X :: How To Make Boot Camp OS Selection Default Boot Screen?

Sep 17, 2009

Is there a way to make the Boot Camp menu the default boot screen, as opposed to holding Alt? This is the latest SL release, if that matters.

I know this is possible in some manner, our networked iMacs all do it; they start up and give the option to boot OS X or Windows, with a countdown to boot the default OS. I'd just like the same thing to happen on my MBP.

Software :: PowerBook Refuses To Boot And Ignores Boot Keys?

Sep 13, 2009

I have OSX installed on a very old Powerbook. Well it was working and then I left it for awhile and now it is giving me the good old folder to question mark screen (maybe someone dropped it?). Well I'm not much of a mac user so I looked up all of the different boot key commands and tried to boot from my OSX CD. Holding down C did nothing, and neither did ANY of the other commands except holding down option and that key command that restarts the computer (apple, option, shift, esc?). Anyway, I got into the screen that shows your hard drive and all other devices and it actually listed the CD drive so I clicked it and clicked the next arrow. I waited for awhile and then the screen reloaded (as if it was rescanning for removable devices) and then stopped and only displayed the local disk. What is going on?! It only sometimes displays the CD in this screen and the next arrow never does anything regardless!!

I really don't know any of the computers stats but if I were to guess they're pretty bad. All I know is it used to run OSX just fine and then other people used it and now it doesn't do anything.

Mac Pro :: Best Setup For Dedicated Boot Drive? - Possible To Boot From RAID 0?

My real dilemma is a Boot/Storage solution-I'm moving from a Dual 867 G4, so all my current drives, both internal and external are IDE, which basically means I'm starting over as far as internal drives goes. The G4 power supply gave out so I'm getting this external enclosure to put my old drives into for file recovery. As far as new drives go, I can't figure out what to do.
