Dec 23, 2002
I just recieved a Sony DCR-trv140 for Christmas and although the instructions state it will work for a Mac (os 8.5 and higher but no OS x) I can't get it to work at all in either operating system. I tried iMovie, it won't work with that and I tried the ImageMixer program that came with and that won't work either

My parents shot thier vacation on a New Sony DVD Camcorder (DCR-DVD100). It records on Mini-DVD's. The camera has a USB & Firewire Ports. How can I get the Video on to my G5? Should I use the Outputs and tape to a DV Camera or VHS Tape? Can I just get it from the MiniDVD to my G5?

My daughter has a Sony Digital Video Camera, model number DCR-DVD101.
The camera downloads fine to a PC, but the Mac is have does not recognize the camera.
The connection is via a USB between the camera and the MAC.
When the camera is connected, the best I get is an icon that shows a CD is place, not a DVD.
Is there a way I can download the data from the camera so it can be edited in I-movie?

I just bought a Sony Handycam DCR-SR42. It does not have a mini DVD or Firewire, rather it has its own hard drive and connects via USB. My Mac, a desktop from 2006, running OS X 10.4.10, has iMovie HD. I have been trying tirelessly to import footage according to instructions from iMovie help and from the Sony Handycam handbook, but I keep getting a message that says: "iMovie could not import the file because it is not a movie file. Quicktime could not parse the file." The files are .MPG format. I've already tried to format the camera's hard drive (both on the camera and on the computer), but that didn't work...

I have a sony handy cam and it saves movies to a smart card. I can put the smart card in the Macbook and it will move them to ITunes but I cannot put them into IMovie. Is there a way to move them directly to IMovie from the USB port on the camera?

After unsuccessfully trying to troubleshoot some problems for my dad from half way round the world I thought I had better ask for some help!
He has a Canon digital camera and a Sony he uses for underwater shots. He imports all of the pics and movies from both cameras into iPhoto, and the movies from both cameras play fine out of iPhoto.
Recently he has decided to start editing them in iMovie 8, and here comes the bit where I'm not 100% sure what he has been doing, but I'll try to explain as best I can. When he first opened iMovie it imported all of the movies out of iPhoto that he had taken with the Canon, but not those from the Sony. If he tries to import them manually then when he finds the file in Finder it is greyed out so he can't select it for import. The files have the extension .mpeg, which I got him to change to mp4 in case it was something as simple as that, but no luck.
Is this something to do with Sony using a proprietary MPEG encoding? I thought that if it playe din one iLife app it would play in any of them, but it seems not!

I just installed a Seagate 500gb, 7200rpm hard drive in my 13" MBP that was updated to EFI Firmware Update 1.7. Clean install of OS X and iLife '09 & iWork '09 went fast. It's quite and fast compared to my old Samsung 500gb, 5400rpm hard drive. It was worth the $120 I spent on it!

This is my first post here at MacRumors.com and I'm quite happy to be here posting as it's a good sign for myself and Apple. I am a Windows user for 15 years and Apple really has come so far in recent years that it is maybe time for change. There are a few problems and I'd like if you have the time to give your opinion:In recent months and especially during the time of the latest MacBook Pro I was pretty impressed and tempted to buy a MBP 17" to upgrade my 2007 Sony 15" Core2Duo Vaio. The time has come for an upgrade in April 2010 as I simply cannot wait any longer, I have become to involved in following stories here at MacRumors and even looking at Sony's offerings.

I have a very old purple iMac, circa 2000, with an old version of iMovie. I copied the files onto a USB and tried to open/import them onto my new Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz iMac. However my new iMac with iMovie '09 won't recognise the files when I try to import them. They stay greyed, not allowing me to import them.

I have a project file that was created using iMovie 5 HD. In this project file were a large number of unused clips and also the final film, edited with transitions, backing music, end credits, etc.
However when I import this project file into iMovie 8 I cannot find the final edited film anywhere, just all the clips that were both used and unused within the project file.
How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?

So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.

So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

I have been trying to convince my Dad to get an iMac for himself for about 2 years. Right now he uses a 5 and 1/2 year old HP and it is draggin'. Anyways, he finally decided to get a mac (probably b/c he likes my mbp so much ) Well, tonight we realized that his Sony DCR-SR82 60GB Handycam Camcorder is not compatible with a mac. I guess Sony uses "muxed" video which means it is mixed together instead of having seperate video and audio tracks. I have got the run around from a whole bunch of sites and I need help.

I am not getting much of anything in the proper area of this site. And since I am using a mbp I suppose it is fine to post this here. I have an all-in-one sony and I want to use it as an external display. So far, I hate screenrecycler because I can't figure it out and it seems like it's gonna be too slow. Anybody know of any hardware that I can use? Can it do it through any of the ports on my mbp?

I'm needing to buy a new camcorder right away! I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11. I would like to buy a Sony HDR-SR11 and need to know if I will be able to simply connect the camcorder to my Mac and download the videos for editing and copying to dvd. I have researched this camcorder extensively online, but have not found an answer involving specifically the Mac OS X 10.4.11 and the Sony HDR-SR11. I have iMovie HD (6.0.3), so I also need to know if this is the application needed. Some of the forums I have visited say that Macs work with this camcorder, and some don't. This camcorder is on the Apple List of Compatible Camcorders, but compatible to me is you just hook it up, follow the prompts, and it's done.

I'm trying to connect a Sony Ericsson phone with my MacBook via Bluetooth. I've got them paired okay, but when I try to send files from the phone to my Mac, it tries to connect, gets connected for like a couple of seconds and then fails again. I've tried to connect to the MacBook several times on the phone and every time it fails.

I received the Sony/Google TV as a gift recently; and I was curious to know how I could possibly input my MBP on the TV, since its quite bigger than my 17" MBP. The Sony/Google TV does not have a VGA input and I understand why.. but I thought there might be a cord that could connect my MBP to the Sony/Google TV and keep a high resolution. The Sony/Google TV only has HDMI, USB & colored component INs. Is there any kind of cord available that I can purchase without the picture going into the 480i/p. Excuse the amateurity of this question. I really don't know where to start on what cord (if any) to buy.

Wondering if anyone else in here has run across this issue before... I am using a Sony TRV-480 camcorder's pass through function (av-dv) to import a home movie. It seems my new copy of final cut express wont work with my av to dv pass through camera. I called tech support and they suggested I use iMovie to upload the movie then export it to a quick time movie. then import it into final cut express...
