Software :: Mac OS X Tiger Applications Not Opening?
Jul 6, 2009
I have just upgraded my G4 PowerPC to os x tiger and find that I can't open some applications at all. Besides this I have found the my Dreamweaver is not putting files to sites at all. I have checked this with a few different sites hosted by different companies and get the same 'Server not responding' messages. I am connected to the servers as I have tested this in "manage sites'. I know these are 2 different questions but wondering whether they are both related to the updgrade of my os.
I recently added a NAS with four main partitions (recognizes them as drives). Now, when ever I start up my mac, finder opens four panes, one for each drive. Is there any way I can prevent finder from automatically opening?
mac mini running 10.4, iomega network drive attached to linksys wireless router.
i've got a powerbookG4 , just reinstaled my osx , made a simple software update . and everything started to go wrong. first my itunes, then my safari , even some utilities don't work .
I inherited an older G4 powerbook and while it has itunes on it, it lacks iphoto. Is this normal? I have OSX Tiger installed and I always thought that it would include iPhoto. Am I wrong about this?
I've tried installing Final Cut Express 4 on my Macbook. I run Tiger. It can't be done. Just after I choose the hard drive for the installation, it starts installing for a split second and then stops saying that an error occurred and that I have to start all over again. Can anyone help me with this? Maybe the Final Cut Express 4 isn't compatible with Tiger?
Can i download the apps listed on http://www.apple.com/downloads/ with a powerbook that has tiger? If not, where can i find the old official Apple app downloads for tiger?
I'm running Tiger, and I was wondering does anyone have the app and the skin/theme to make the Dock look like it did in this picture? The picture is from Jobs' keynote of introducing OS X. I just think it would be fun to have it look that way (in tiles with borders).
I am still on Tiger, mainly because I really like its feel and simplicity as compared to Leopard or Snow Leopard, and its been fine up until recently because it did everything I needed. Recently, I've been encountering more frequently apps that I want to try but that are only available on 10.5+.I have a Leopard CPU Drop-in Disk, and am thinking about upgrading soon, however, I am using a 120 GB HDD that is getting close to being full, and I am concerned that installing a new OS would eat up some of that precious available HDD spaceDoes anyone know what the size difference is between Tiger and Leopard or between Tiger and Snow Leopard? If it's more than 4 GB, I don't think it is really worth it to me.
I did a fresh Leopard install onto a new HDD. I use the migration assistant to transfer my Tiger profile to a new account on the Leopard install. My default Leopard user account Mail app works for but the profile/user I migrated just will not work (mail). When I start Mail on the migrated profile I get nothing; no window except the File Menu Bar changes to "Mail". New Mail Window does nothing and I can't Quit the application..
Like many here I am a reasonably 'savvy' user but have got very grey over the past week or so. I run an aged and trusted G4 and took a number of decisions recently - to add a second HD, to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, to upgrade to the 2008 Mac Office and to install CS4 (all legal).
I am getting major problems with the machine hanging up and believe that it is to do with Leopard and CS4 (the latter of which I wish to remove). So, the nub of my question is whether I can revert the machine to Tiger and if so, how!
I recently re-installed Tiger on my macbook because I'd accidentally deleted system preferences and I needed it back. I still have all of my HD data, except that iTunes will bounce once in the dock, and then disappear. It doesn't open to my library like it usually would.
I have a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. Bought it some months ago. I recently had to redo everything. I've run into one problem. I cannot get the old AOL (yes, the old software with the installer) to work. I download it, and open it to install and it closes. It bounces in the dock for a few seconds then closes. Yes, I have Rosetta installed. I installed it from the CD. Other Rosetta required applications are working (Appleworks, for example).
The only way I can open pdf's is from the File Open Menu inside of Adobe. Every time I try to open a document from any way other than from inside Adobe I get this message: "The document RFI #12 Answer.pdf could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the Adobe PDF document format." Is there a setting that needs to be changed?
I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard, but the computer has some hardware problems and I need to send it in for repair (it won't wake up or boot). It is entirely backed up with Time Machine, and I would like to transfer the calendar and contact data from it to my PowerBook that is running OS X 10.4.
I managed to export an icbu file (iCal) and abbu (Address Book) file from the MBP, but when I try to add them to the PB's iCal and Address Book, I get an error message. The raw data in the Library folder seem to be in a different format as well. Is there any other way to transfer the data?
I've been looking around online for the past hour for a solid way to open a .mht file on a mac, and I can't find anything. I need to open these files for University homework. Has anybody figured out a way to do it?
Is there a program to open these .CBR files (comic book rar) for OSX? I found a site to purchase and download a lot of my old favorite comics but I wanted to make sure I can view them on my Mac first.
When I attempt to open a pdf file in Firefox I get a dialog box asking me to "Open with" or "Save to Disk"? The problem is the "Open with" lists only an old app that I no longer have, and doesn't give me a choice to select which app to use. If I go ahead and click OK it opens in Preview which is fine, but why does the dialog box only show an old app that is no longer available? How this this info get filled in, and how can I fix this?
So, I am using Safari Beta 4 however I don't think its the beta that is the problem.
I am clicking a link to open a PDF in Safari and it brings up the window asking what program to use to open it... however, Preview is grayed out and I cannot change to "Enable All Applications" like you can normally, i guess because it's in Safari it's different.
I am pretty sure this started happening when I deleted an Adobe Acrobat Pro trial.
Any one have some insight they would like to share?
I have about 10 jpg files that in the finder window I can see the whole image, but when I try to open the picture or put it in iphoto i can only see half of the picture. How can I see the whole photo?
Out of nowhere Firefox suddenly won't open. When I click the on the icon in the dock, it hops a few seconds, then stops. Nothing else happens. I've tried downloading and deleting it a couple of times, but the same things happens. The computer is 15" MBP, 2 GB from early 2009.
I recently bought a usb HD and have put my carbon copy images on it. But i need to roll back to an earlier time. And the mac isnt booting to the OS. How do i boot from usb and restore the image?
