View 7 RepliesA Mac running windows would be able handle the Total War series of games right? They take a lot of graphics and memory so I just wanted to make sure and see if it would play perfectly just as on a gaming PC.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've looked around for a long time, but I haven't seen any program like what I want. I am going to buy a MBP sometime soon and I would like to find a program that keeps track of my TOTAL uptime. Not uptime from last shut-down or restart, the total uptime from first power on until the end. Now as I understand it there is no way for a program to look back at your old usage statistics, but I won't have that problem as I'd install it the minute everything was configured for the first time.
Even if the app just takes all of the restart-to-restart uptimes and adds them together, I'd be happy. I just don't want to do it by hand every day. I'd even settle for a script that takes the last "uptime" terminal command and adds it to a text file every time the machine reboots. I use computers a LOT every day for school and work related things, and I'm curious to find out if a new notebook would increase that number
it's possible to view total running time of a video in Quicktime? By that I mean - on the left you can see elapsed time. I'd like to be able to see total time somewhere. Say a movie is 1hr57mins long. I'd love to be able to see that somewhere.
Right now I can only see elapsed time.
how I can convert my old IMAC from "dial up" to go on the internet as high speed? I have an ISP provider for a more modern computer that I own, but I really would like to use my old IMAC on the internet as well? How can I make it compatible with high speed internet? If I try to go on line, the internal modem "dials up". How can I change that and cause it to communicate with my external high speed modem?

iMac, Mac OS 9.0.x, it is programmed for dial

I've upgraded to mavericks. Everything works fine except Time Machine. I want to continue using my 'old' time machine backup on an external server. When I try to reconnect I get the following message: The disk image "..." is in use Try ejecting the disk image.
I have disconnected and reconnected to the external server. This had no effect. At first glance it seems I am able to access my old backup clicking "Browse other backup disks". But the I don't get my backed up files. It's stuck at today
How can I determine which SSD (if any) are compatible upgrades to my Macbook? I currently have the OEM 250gb drive and am exploring options that can speed it up a little more while keeping it functional for another few years. I'd want a drive that is at least 256gb or maybe larger so as to not be losing any space. I'm currently running 10.6.8 and am hoping to leapfrog directly to Mountain Lion this month when it releases at the same time as installing the new SSD. This is a 2008 (late fall) 13" aluminum chassis Macbook with the 2.4 Intel Core 2 duo processor and 4gb of 1067 Mhz DDR3.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a relatively new "Mac convert" -- approx 3 months. I have a MacBook Pro 13", 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB Internal HD, two 500GB external drives and I am running OS X 10.6.2. Bootcamp is ver 3.0.1.
I am preparing to install Windows 7 so I can utilize a few of my old Windows program. The Windows programs will, most probably, be limited to Micorsoft Office Outlook, ActiveSync, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier Elements. What would be a recommended, or optimal, Windows partition size to accommodate the mentioned programs and still give me some "spare" space if I decide to add a couple of more Windows programs to the list.
So I just installed two drives in my PowerMac G4 MDD. Using cable select to install them, I have the boot drive installed on the middle of the ribbon between the Mobo. and the end. The slave drive is on the end of the ribbon. Now when I open Disk Utility the slave drive is first on the list on the left followed by the boot drive. I thought it should be the other way around. Also, when I option click on each drive and click on information the boot drive is tagged with disk1xxx and the slave has the drive as disk0xxx. That doesn't sound right. Does it? ALSO strangely when I FIRST set the drives up and opened Disk Utility the BOOT was first in the list and the SLAVE was underneath, but after a restart they went the other way around. Can tell me what's going on? or anything to worry about? I will be doing frequent backups on the boot drive so I don't want any issues later.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro laptop recently died and I am trying to access its time machine backup data through Finder on a different computer. In each one of my folders from different dates, however, the majority of the computer folders I would like to access (i.e. desktop, documents, dropbox, etc) have a little red "no" sign in the corner and prompt the following message when selected:
"The folder “FolderName” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents"
How can I gain permission to see its contents? As the former user, I know whatever passwords are restricting these files, but I don't know how/where to go to give permission to these folders. I've tried going into Disk Utility and changing the permissions there, but to no avail, despite successful changing of the "Sharing & Permissions" to "Read & Write" for all listed accounts.
I'm currently trying to view this on an imac OSX 10.6.8. The dead MacBook pro ran OSX

Everytime I open ITunes, it says "determining gapless information" which kills performance and randomly stalls ITunes. Is there anyway to disable it from determining gapless information?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI open iTunes and first thing it does (every time!) is "Determining Gapless Playback Information" for a small (400 tracks, approx) subset of my 4,000 tunes library. I've checked and re-checked my tunes. I have NO tracks set to "Part of a gapless album".this process repeats itself sometimes when I'm importing new tunes, even after the app has been launched for awhile. iTunes starts scanning the same 400 (approx) files AGAIN, as I add new music. It takes 30-60 seconds to run through this process. Annoying!
View 1 Replies View Relatedjust moved my whole iTunes library (21560 songs) to my 2TB Time Capsule... And well everything went great, until I updated to iTunes 10, it updated the iTunes library on open, fine, took two minutes on the ageing MBA, but now, it is Determining gapless playback for my entire library... And it's been going for about 6 hours and it's on 856/21560, so my question is... Is there anyway to stop iTunes doing this?
View 15 Replies View RelatedMy iTunes is currently giving me a message "Determining Song Volume, Analyzing XX of YY". What does this mean and how often can I expect it to do so. Unfortunately, I'm working off an external drive on a USB 1.1 port because its all I've got. At this rate, it'll take all night to finish analyzing and I want to use the damn program (which I can't while its doing this).

My iPhone 4s does not sync with itunes. It starts syncing as usual but the sync times out once it reaches "Determining apps to sync". In ITunes it shows that music, videos and pictures are synced but none are found in my phone. I have rebooted the computer and phone a few times but it didn't work.

I installed 2 x 2gb sticks of ram with the mac ram that was already installed in the computer. I checked to see if the computer recognized the ram and it did recognize it had 6gb installed.
I went to check it again today and noticed that it stated that i had only 4gb installed. I went to check the memory set up in "about this mac" option and clicked memory and noticed it recognized the 4 dimm risers that had the memory installed but the 2gb dimms were stated at 1gb each.
I uninstalled them and installed them again and checked it again where it stated 6gb of ram was installed. I thought i solved it but i just went to check it again and it is again stating i only have 4gb installed ( 4 dimm risers with 1gb installed).
I have a mid-2007 white MacBook/with 2 GB Ram.Upgraded op system recently all the way to OS.7.3!Is it possible to install 4 GB of Ram---add 2 GB to each slot for a total of 4GB? Performance w/Lion is annoyingly slow. Mac Genius Bar suggested replacing the hard drive....so now I have a and new 160G hard drive. But the Lion is still slower than my attention span can stand! Genius Bar said more RAM would help the performance and speed problem----but advised that this model is not capable of supporting 4 GB.is it? What else can be done? Can not afford a newer MacBook now.Should I just uninstall Lion?

can I install two 8GB RAM (total 16GB) in my iMac?I have the early 2009 version of the iMac 24" 2.93 GHz intel core 2 duo. I already have 8GB (2x 4GB) 1066MHz RAM installed.I do very intensive photoshop art (the saved PSD files usually exceed 1GB, and while the document is open in Photoshop, it can exceed 5GB -- but of course PSD files cannot be saved over 2GB so I usually have to delete unused layers to reduce its size). I usually end up using more than 8GB of RAM for this (image files, with multiple layers, layer styles, etc, at 24,000 x 12,000 pixels of resolution, even in 8-bit 8GB of RAM is not enough).I need more RAM, but I do not want to buy a new iMac just for this.
I know the official maximum is 8GB (4GBx2) which is what I have, but I know that when this model was released, there were no 8GB RAM easily accessible. Now there is, for under $200.I want to upgrade to two 8GB sticks, to instease the RAM to 16GB, which would be exactly what I need.

I'm currently running Word for Mac 2008 on an iMac Intel with Snow Leopard. I do a lot of document writing, often switching back and forth between documents. I find it a pain to have to go to "Window," find a document, opn it, then go back to "Window" to where I was originally.
I've bene playing around with Scrivener and I really like how it lines up documents on the left and then you can import them into a split screen. Does Word 2011 have anything like this?
Newbie question: is there an easy way to display the TOTAL item count in a mailbox? (not the unread count). Outlook showed this total in the status bar. I have displayed the quota limits in the Account Info, but that is impractical for quick reference.

Each bank has a 4gig and a 2gig. I installed them into the machine with the 2x4gig on the left, and the 2x2gig on the right, and the "banks" are apparantly front and back, not side and side.
