Mac Pro :: Total Ram Not Being Recognized?

Feb 18, 2008

I installed 2 x 2gb sticks of ram with the mac ram that was already installed in the computer. I checked to see if the computer recognized the ram and it did recognize it had 6gb installed.

I went to check it again today and noticed that it stated that i had only 4gb installed. I went to check the memory set up in "about this mac" option and clicked memory and noticed it recognized the 4 dimm risers that had the memory installed but the 2gb dimms were stated at 1gb each.

I uninstalled them and installed them again and checked it again where it stated 6gb of ram was installed. I thought i solved it but i just went to check it again and it is again stating i only have 4gb installed ( 4 dimm risers with 1gb installed).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Install 4 GB Of Ram / Add 2 GB To Each Slot For A Total Of 4GB?

Mar 12, 2012

I have a mid-2007 white MacBook/with 2 GB Ram.Upgraded op system recently all the way to OS.7.3!Is it possible to install 4 GB of Ram---add 2 GB to each slot for a total of 4GB? Performance w/Lion is annoyingly slow. Mac Genius Bar suggested replacing the hard drive....so now I have a and new 160G hard drive. But the Lion is still slower than my attention span can stand! Genius Bar said more RAM would help the performance and speed problem----but advised that this model is not capable of supporting 4 GB.is it? What else can be done? Can not afford a newer MacBook now.Should I just uninstall Lion?

Can Install Two 8GB RAM (total 16GB) In IMac

Jul 1, 2012

can I install two 8GB RAM (total 16GB) in my iMac? I have the early 2009 version of the iMac 24" 2.93 GHz intel core 2 duo. I already have 8GB (2x 4GB) 1066MHz RAM installed.I do very intensive photoshop art (the saved PSD files usually exceed 1GB, and while the document is open in Photoshop, it can exceed 5GB -- but of course PSD files cannot be saved over 2GB so I usually have to delete unused layers to reduce its size). I usually end up using more than 8GB of RAM for this (image files, with multiple layers, layer styles, etc, at 24,000 x 12,000 pixels of resolution, even in 8-bit 8GB of RAM is not enough).I need more RAM, but I do not want to buy a new iMac just for this.

I know the official maximum is 8GB (4GBx2) which is what I have, but I know that when this model was released, there were no 8GB RAM easily accessible. Now there is, for under $200.I want to upgrade to two 8GB sticks, to instease the RAM to 16GB, which would be exactly what I need.

OS X :: Finding Total Users Of Word For Mac 2011

Nov 14, 2010

I'm currently running Word for Mac 2008 on an iMac Intel with Snow Leopard. I do a lot of document writing, often switching back and forth between documents. I find it a pain to have to go to "Window," find a document, opn it, then go back to "Window" to where I was originally.

I've bene playing around with Scrivener and I really like how it lines up documents on the left and then you can import them into a split screen. Does Word 2011 have anything like this?

Applications :: Program To Keep Track Of My Total Up-time?

Aug 8, 2008

I've looked around for a long time, but I haven't seen any program like what I want. I am going to buy a MBP sometime soon and I would like to find a program that keeps track of my TOTAL uptime. Not uptime from last shut-down or restart, the total uptime from first power on until the end. Now as I understand it there is no way for a program to look back at your old usage statistics, but I won't have that problem as I'd install it the minute everything was configured for the first time.

Even if the app just takes all of the restart-to-restart uptimes and adds them together, I'd be happy. I just don't want to do it by hand every day. I'd even settle for a script that takes the last "uptime" terminal command and adds it to a text file every time the machine reboots. I use computers a LOT every day for school and work related things, and I'm curious to find out if a new notebook would increase that number

MacBook Pro :: Samsung 840 EVO SSD - Reduce Total Bytes Written (TBW)

Jun 29, 2014

I just replaced my damage HD (original HD) to my MBP 2009 unibody. So far, I like the SSD drive, and I use it for my internal storage. I've been read a fews article online, but it seems I don't find the answer. My concern is, How do I reduce TBW on SSD? if I play video (like youtube, Netflix, or Hulu) or play online games, would it be increase my TBW? So far, I set up my download file to my external HD. Whenever I download file, application, or etc, it would go to my external HD. Second question, What can I do to lower the use of SSD? Therefore, my SSD will last long like 3-5  years perhaps. Third question, since Samsung Magician Software can't run on MBP. How do I check my TBW and the health of my SSD?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Website Crashes On Safari And Total Crash On Other Browsers

May 17, 2012

I have a macbook pro and I have the OS X lion installed with all the latest updates to Safari etc. Lately my browsers have been acting up.

While I can access a lot of websites on my Safari there are other sites which do not load and I get the spinning beach ball before Safari crashes. My Safari also seems to take longer to load.

I have the latest Firefox 12 installed. When that starts up on the home page it crashes straight away after the obligatory spinning beach ball. I tried to trouble shoot Firefox but it wouldn't even open in safe mode before it crashed.

I also have Opera which doesn't even start up. So I uninstalled and upgraded to Opera Next. It doesn't even start up!

I have checked for plug in issues. I have up to date adobe flash player and java - unless there is some issue there. I also checked my DNS and it seemed clean of trojans. But I could or may have overlooked something.

I did use 'onyx' to clean my files but the trouble began before I used it. So now I am at a loss to understand why I am having problems with my browsers.

I'm not very technical but I have done my best to follow various threads around here to dismiss obvious causes.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Latest safari update.

MacBook Pro :: Error In Reading TOTAL Hard Drive Space

Jul 1, 2014

I just removed my Windows 7 using Bootcamp, since it wouldn't start up properly anymore. The thing is, there was this error in Bootcamp while uninstalling Windows. I wasn't able to read all of what the error was, so I removed the Windows again, or at least that's what the Mac seemed to be doing, until it got stuck somewhere for a suspiciously long time. I forced quit it, which might've been a bad move.  So anyway, when I checked Bootcamp again, the option for removing Windows wasn't there anymore, so I assumed all is well. Until I saw the storage and Diskutility."

I did Verify Disk and Repair Disk before the last image. As you can see, the disk appears to be OK. But obviously it's not. The Windows 7 I had seems to have been uninstalled, since I can't find it in the selection part when pressing "alt" while turning it on.

What's happening to my hard drive?

Mac Pro :: How Much DATA Do You Have On-line And How Full Is Your Total On-line Storage

Sep 6, 2009

Double poll here. There are two questions:
How much DATA do you have Oo-line?

This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.

And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?

For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".

I even tried restarting! One thing that I must note is that there are 18 pins on the DVI to VGA adapter but 24 holes for pins on the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter. Shouldn't this work?
