Software :: When Turning On IBook G4 Goes Into Sleep

Sep 7, 2008

When I turn on my ibook G4 it does the start up chime and it goes to the start up screen and begins to load with the blue background and the gray box in the middle, every time though, it only gets to the "Waiting for network initialization" then it goes right into sleep mode, the white glowing button comes on, and I can't get it out of sleep mode.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Not Turning On

Jan 2, 2007

I have a 12" 1.33Ghz iBook G4 that does not respond when I try to turn it on. Every now and then I can hear the hard drives spin up but after that nothing happens. I've tried to make sure the problem wasn't being caused by my AC adaptor and battery and they seem to be fine. I even tried to remove my third party Crucial 1GB stick of RAM and it still won't work. Is there anything else I can try before I head over to the nearest Apple store?

Mar 21, 2009

I have a iBook G4 with the following spec. 14 Screen 933 MHz Processor / 384 MB RAM / 40 GB HD, OS 10 panther Untill now it was working perfectly, last week in was on and hanged up and was heated for hours, Now when i was trying to switch it on it was not booting up and not recogninsing the hard disc, I tried to reboot i failed, than i tried to reload OS10 panther with the original disc no 1 it went on till the end and before finishing it showed error message. I tried to check and repair Hard disc and it was OK I think the problem is with memory ( which is inbuilt in the board) If i put additional memory on the slot and try to relad the OS will it work, or there is some other problem.

PowerPC :: IBook Turning Off At 0% Battery

Mar 6, 2007

My iBook used to come up with an alert that it was using reserve power, and then automatically go to sleep, so I could wake it as soon as I plugged it in. Now, there is no warning, if it gets to 0% it turns off, NOT sleeps but turns completely off without shutting down. This means any unsaved work is lost etc, its not at all good. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? (I have Tiger, iBook 1.44Ghz, 1.25 RAM)

MacBook :: Screen Not Turning On After Sleep

I'm having a regular problem with my MacBook screen. Every time I put it to sleep, when it starts back up again the screen stays blank / black. The way to remedy this issue is to close the lid and open it again immediately. Then the screen comes on and no further problems.

MacBook :: Computer Keeps Turning On When In Sleep

Apr 11, 2009

My macbook, 3 years of age, always turns on whenever I put it into sleep mode. It gets REALLY annoying. So I close the lid, and a few seconds later, you hear the macbook turn on, then a few seconds later, it goes back to sleep mode. This happens endlessly and it gets really annoying.

MacBook Pro :: Close Lid Without Turning Off Or Sleep?

Sometimes it's just nice to be able to close the laptop when moving from place to place, I just don't see the need to sleep the machine when I do so. I do this on my Acer laptop all the time.

Power Mac :: Why Is ADC Monitor Not Turning On After Put G5 To Sleep

Mar 7, 2012

Why is my ADC monitor not turning on after I put my G5 to sleep? I am running an adaptor to my G5 from the ADC monitor (DVI to ADC).The screen usually runs fine when I reset the monitor or turn it off but as for when I put it to sleep, no such luck..This has happened once before and last time I just waited and randomly turned it on a couple days later and boom, the screen booted up.I have tried basic options, like resetting the computer several times, pulling the power cable out of the G5 for several minutes and even a PRAM reset but nothing seems to have made it work as of yet.I assume it's within the G5 as it has happened a few times and the monitor works fine when I test it on other computers..Also as I mentioned before this is not the first time it occured and it just randomly seems to come on whenever.

Intel Mac :: Why Does It Often Freeze After Turning On From Sleep Mode

Apr 28, 2012

I've been using Pc's for the past 30 odd years so am totally new to Mac. I'm doing my best to adapt to this new different OS and so far have found some things more user friendly but others ? I've more or less given up on those as Mac doesn't seem to do those things. These are probably Windows based and I'm assuming Mac has its own alternatives that I haven't discovered yet. Anyway, my immediate problem is this goddamned frustrating situation when I try to re-activate the comp' after waking it from 'sleep'. Sometimes its fine but others, it comes back on but freezes and the only option I have is to turn it off at the switch and do a re-boot!

MacBook :: Screen Intermittently Turning Itself Off And On / Sleep And Wake Occurring

Aug 8, 2010

I bought a new unibody Macbook around 4-5 months ago and I've generally been very impressed with it. It's my first Mac and considering all the problems I'd had before with Windows PC's, it's quite a relief.Anyway, here's the issue. When hooked up to my 24 inch Dell monitor there are numerous problems. Originally it just started with the screen intermittently turning itself off and on, and there being a sleep/wake issue. I did some research then and discovered that this was by no means a problem confined to me. Knowing this I was prepared to wait until Apple fixed it with a firmware update or something, as the problem was annoying but not devastating.

However since then the problem has got significantly worse. Not only are the screen flickering, sleep wake/issues occuring much more frequently, but there are other problems. For instance, the menu bar and the dock sometimes fail to show, and I've been having a very weird problem with the Logitech mouse I use. Even though I can move the cursor generally I can't click, and when I can, only the right mouse button works. The same is true with the trackpad, so it's not a problem with the mouse.

When these problems occur the system generally seems to be very slow. I've checked the 'activity monitor' and the use of 'system memory' seems to be very high. For instance, at the moment (I'm using my Macbook by itself) I'm running a few applications (Mail, iCal etc.) and I've got 1.09 gb of free memory. Last night I was running exactly the same applications and I must have had less than 0.4 gb of free memory. The pageout numbers were fairly high as well.

It's strange because when disconnected from the external monitor the Macbook seems to work seamlessly. I just don't understand how some of the problems I've experienced (such as the mouse issue) can arise from problems relating to the external monitor setup. What do you think? Should I be worried that these issues are perhaps indicative of a greater problem? Either way, the problems are becoming hard to deal with. Very disappointing.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Booting - Gray Screen With Apple Turning Gear Comes On Start Up

Dec 30, 2008

A friend of mine brought over his 14" iBook G4, 1.33GHz, 60GB HDD and 1.25 GB RAM. The problem with it is that upon start-up, the grey screen with the apple/turning gear comes up, then after a few moments a blue screen will appear, though no box showing the start-up process. I've run a few basic diagnostics on this, including the lovely disk utility (which did nothing), I've run fsck, zapped the PRAM, etc, no success as of yet. At one point, I received a screen with alternating folders, one showing the smiley mac face, the other folder with a flashing "?". I cannot replicate this for the life of me. I have attempted to acquire files via TDM, though am not able to see the hard drive despite using 2 different laptops. Possibly the firewire cable itself is spent, though it's brand new! Here is where I become increasingly frustrated: I ask my friend for the boot disks as the ones for my own 12" iBook don't work (for whatever reason). He tells me that he loaded Leopard this summer (currently running 10.5.2, no updates loaded since), then proceeds to bring over boot discs for a MacBook...:headdesk: To begin with, it seemed like the HDD was fried, however, after running disk utility (and not hearing any negative sounds), it does appear that the HDD is fine. I'm thinking a kernel panic, though not sure how to resolve these.

PowerPC :: IBook G3 Frozen In Sleep?

Jan 10, 2007

Last night I put my iBook to sleep and now it won't seem to wake up. The little snoring light thing is maybe half-lit, but it doesn't snore like normal--just one solid, half-way lit light. I've tried force shuttng down (holding down the power button) and force restarting (command-control-power), and neither work. I've also tried the obvious--closing lid (it was open), unplugging it (the battery still has life though).

Anything else I can do?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Goes Deep Sleep?

Sep 7, 2007

My coworker is having some problems with his iBook G4 and I (being the mac guy I am) volunteered to help set it straight. I have encountered a bit of a snag that seems quite strange to me. The problem is that when the computer boots and gets to the login screen, it goes into a deep sleep and can only be revived by removing the battery. It stays at the login screen for about 3 seconds before this happens. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this in advance so I don't have my usual supplies (OSX CD or a Firewire cable to go into target disk mode so I can poke around from my MBP). If the sleep problem were not strange enough, I cant boot into single user mode! It just keeps a black screen up. Verbose startup does the same thing. Has anybody here come across a problem like this before?

TIA

PowerPC :: Ibook G4 Shuts Down When Put In Sleep?

May 25, 2010

I have an ibook G4 14" 1.42ghz.I have it plugged into a power adapter almost always. It has been plugged in in both instances/I recently put it to sleep and when I return anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple hours it is shut down. I have a heck of a time getting it to power on. It took me several times, anywhere from 3-6 times to get it to turn on.

When I turn it on it goes through the usual loading procedures and after loading a window pops up saying the date and time are wrong and could cause applications to act erratically. The date ends up being 1969 and sometimes the time is wrong.

I have fixed the date and it still happens.

I don't know if this has affected or led to this but my battery has been shot for a couple months now and occasionally (probably 1-2 times a day) the power adapter (a cheap copy of apple's) would become unplugged from the laptop prompting the message stating you are on reserve battery and that the computer will go to sleep soon.

Does anyone know what is causing this? How much would it cost to fix it?

Oct 12, 2007

I was wondering how/where the sensor is/works to tell the computer to go to sleep when the lid is closed. I am doing some mods (discussed in the marketplace forum) and would like to try to keep that sensor intact if at all possible, but i realized I have no idea where it is located or how it senses that the lid is closed on these.

I searched the forum a bit and found nothing, and can't find anything in google other then sleeping problems... unless I just am horrible at googlin.

Hardware :: Ibook Wirelessely Connected To Home Netork - Print From Ibook ?

Oct 17, 2005

I have an iBook (running OS X Tiger) which is wirelessly connected to a home network via a wireless router. On this network I have a Windows PC to which a HP Laserjet 1010 is connected via USB. I would like to be able to share this printer on the Windows PC so that I can print from the iBook.I have set file and print sharing options on the Windows PC. I have then added a new printer in OS X over 'Windows Printing'. OS X sees the printer and allows me to add it after puting in a username and password (I used the 'Guest' username). However when I try and print from the iBook the printer initialises and then procedes to print "%!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1 %%..." and then lots of random letters. I thought that this looked like the iBook wasn't using the right drivers and after checking it appears it is using Generic Printer drivers.

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Swapping - IBook G3 And IBook G4

My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.

Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^

Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

MacBook Air :: Airport Connection/Sleep Versus Sleep Display?

Apr 9, 2008

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.

However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?
