i'm chearching an Applescript to sleep the display on my iBook running Tiger. I visited allready all the dutch apple forums but I didn't find, so if someone can give me an easy applescript?

View 5 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine gave me her old iBook G4 so I can fix it. Something was wrong with it (half the applications are missing, spotlight reindexes every time it restarts etc). So I'm just gonna reinstall everything from the ground up. My question is though, should I install Tiger again or would Leopard be better? The only thing I am afraid of is that Leopard would slow down the iBook since it's an older Laptop. Here are the specs:

512MB Ram

I have an iBook G4 that's running Tiger 10.4.11 and the most recent version of Safari and just recently when I try to open up some web pages I get the error message "Safari can't open the page "http://whateverthewebaddressis" because it can't find the server". It will open some pages, some of the time and then a few minutes later if I try to open it again it will give me the error message. It is not a problem with my internet, as I also have a new iMac running leopard and Safari has never had a problem opening the same pages at the same time.

Is it as simple as putting in another video card, currently have a NVIDIA 6600, but I cannot confirm that. I pulled the video card out, but could not find a model number on it anywhere. What about third party cards, adapter etc.

I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
I copied the os 9 classic from my g3 desktop to my iBook. When I Open the application it get all the way to the end and then the program shuts down got an ideas to solve that problem.

I have a iBook G3 laptop that has a new hard drive that has been formatted. I can't boot my Tiger DVD off the iBook when pressing the letter C. I receive a blinking folder icon. When I hook a firewire cable from the iBook to my Mac Pro running Leopard I can boot off the DVD. After I click on English as my language I receive a dialogue box stating I can't install Tiger on my Mac Pro. When I go to Disk Utility it does see the formatted new hard drive. I want to get Tiger on the new hard drive.

I looked up how to reset it to factory default settings and once I did that, every application was gone. Even safari. I have been looking up ways to get it back onto the computer because I cant do anything on it now. I tried using a USB and putting a version of Safari (the .dmg file) that I thought would work on it, but when i try to open it, an error pops up. I dont know what to do.

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.
However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?
I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and I'm se as shown in the pictures (since i upgraded to os x yosemite) . It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

I have a G3 iBook, 600MHz, 2 USB slots, 1 firewire slot, DVD ROM/CDRW with 640Mb. I bought a Tiger DVD which on the front says: "Mac OS X Tiger. Includes Xcode 2. Install DVD. Version 10.4.6." It came as new, inside a Mac OS X box (no grey installation discs - just 1 black DVD). But...it won't install on my iBook. In fact, it won't even mount on my desktop! I've tried holding "C" on startup but that won't help. Incidentally, I can't repair permissions (I just get "No valid packages (-9997)") but that seems to be the only thing going on with my Mac! Any ideas to get this show on the road?

I just turned it on one day & it showed the apple logo as usual, it went to the Starting up screen, and then it just disappears and i'm left with a blue screen, and the mouse sometimes appears for about 10 seconds and then it goes away. i've tried formatting, installing an earlier operating system, using a boot cd, booting from an external hard drive, everything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a ibook 1.2 ghz w/ 1.25 gigs of ram. I'm going to be using it for school. Just some word processing, email/internet, and music. It came with panther and it has the latest updates.. Is it worth it to get Tiger for it? Will I notice a huge difference? Things are alright now, but I'm used to my MBP zipping through everything. I know it won't ever be as zippy as the MBP, but will Tiger make a huge difference?
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy problem is the following, I have an Ibook G3 which Disk Drive is busted. So i'm trying to install Tiger To it (PPC) by using Target Disk or Disk Target (w/e) mode connecting it with my Mac Book Pro. I restored the Ibook with the disk utility on the MBP putting as source the installer for tiger which I ripped off the img file from the the retail version I bought. And so I rstored it to the HD of the Ibook, takes about 15-10min(Maybe less) and done. When I turn on My Ibook it automatically boots into the installing of OS X process. Everything goes smooth until I get to the part that I have to choose the destination but I can't choose anything because the HD for the Ibook won't show, it doesnt show any possible destination for me to save to. I have read the read me files and everything on the software and about the option botton on the "destination" part but the botton cannot be selected. I read something about the formatt of the Ibook for tiger to work and I have it in "Extended (Jornaled)" and i'm upgrading it from Mac 9 classic, but the drivers for mac 9 aren't installed since I accidentally (w/o knowing) erased everything on the hard drive the first time I did this with the Disk utility.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Tiger (with the latest software updates) on my old 12" iBook and in the last week it has started a LOVELY behavior of chewing through the 1.5-2GB free on the hard drive after it has been up and running for 5-20 minutes. The only recourse I've found is a reboot. I think it's tied more to the browser than the OS, but I've tried using Firefox, Safari, and Opera with the same result.

It's still 3 to 8 days until it gets delivered, but I was doing some thinking, and couldn't decide between Tiger and Leopard. It comes with Tiger and iLife (not sure what version of iLife). My brother has a Leopard install disk that he says he'll lend me if I want to install it. I am leaning toward Leopard, but only because it has a nicer GUI, in my opinion at least. I'll probably use Tiger on it for a week before deciding to whether upgrade or not.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Ibook G4 that I cannot install tiger to .. I have two problems...
1. When I start with a retail version of Tiger (at least that's what ebay said.) it shows me the grey apple, nice and sharp, and then the screen changes to a horrible, horrible 2 color black and white dithered image of two mighty mouses showing me to add batteries and turn it on. The installer hangs here without a mouse.
2. Since I have a USB mouse (not mighty) I plugged it in and the installation continues but it's still in the horrid black and white dithering (grayscale) that I got on the insert mouse screen.
I can barely read a thing it's that bad... just horrible dithered black and white.
It's not the screen because booting Arch Linux shows a perfect colored frame buffer and the folder with the question mark has proper colors.
Why is an Ibook G4 demanding that I install a mighty mouse to continue installation? How come the track pad will not do? (and yes the track pad does work.)
I bought this machine second hand is it possible that the system firmware is updated to a wrong version?
Because when I check the system info it says Powerbook6,7
I have torrents going all the time. If the computer goes to sleep, the internet disconnects, so they stop. Display sleep wouldn't disconnect though. Is it OK to have computer sleep on "never" but keep display on "15 minutes"? I don't usually even leave the computer on overnight.

I'm new to Macs and I probably messed up my installation so I would like to start from scratch and reinstall Leopard on a brand new drive. Here's my question.. I would like to remove the old drive from bay 1 and replace it wit the new drive. After I install Leopard on the new drive can I put the old drive in the currently empty bay 4? Will I then be able to boot into either drive? The reason being that until I get the new installation configured properly and all my applications reinstalled, I may need access to the old installation. If this scenario will work, how do I select which volume to boot at start up?
