Applications :: Changing Default Email Editor In Safari?
Mar 21, 2010
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the default email editor that launches when you click on an email link in Safari? I'd like for it to launch Gmail in a new window rather than launch Apple's Mail.
I've been able to do this in Firefox and would love to be able to do it with Safari.
Why does the default email reader in Mail Preferences keep changing to Outllook after I set it to Mail 5.2 and then close the preference pane? The Default in Outlook is set as Mail 5.2.
I have the dreaded Safari font problem, here's what I've tried:-Removing all suspicious fonts with Font Book and Suitcase Fusion-Removing all fonts with errors (none found though) with Font Book-Running Font Finagler and de-activating fonts-Resetting default encoding on Safari to Western (nothing changed)-Changing the fonts in Safari's preferencesBut no avail, here's the screenshot:
I used to have it so that whenever I take a screenshot it would go to a folder of my choice. But I have recently put a new hard drive in my MacBook and thus have a new Leopard install and do not remember how I originally set this up because it was such a long time ago.
Does anyone know what Terminal command or something that will let me make my screenshots go to something like User/Tyler/Pictures/Screenshots?
I signed up for a Gmail account about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm so impressed with it that I have made it my primary email account. My only problem comes when Iclick links from Safari or Adium where the link is an email address. I would LOVE for Safari to open to the compose mail link of my Gmail account in a new tab, because as it stands now this just opens Mail.app. (I know I could just manually navigate to the compose mail page of Gmail, but, that's just no fun). Is this extremely wishful thinking, or somehow possible?
I despise TextEdit. I've used VI since I've been using computers so naturally I took very well to MacVim. Though I want to set it as my default editor for editing blank files (plain UTF-8 text files without an extension). So I threw the .app inside of a folder named "oldTextEdit" and created a symlink to MacVim and named it TextEdit.app and placed it in /Applications, but it doesn't work. When I go to the command line and type "open -e" it still opens with TextEdit.app - The only thing I can think of is that it ignores symlinks (or as mac calls them, an "alias."). I moved TextEdit.app to another drive and my alias worked fine on double clicking a blank file, it opened up MacVim. BUT - if I go to terminal and type "open -e" it opened up TextEdit (not sure how).
Now when I click that same UTF-8 blank text file (created using "touch") it opens in TextEdit (again, I have no clue how, TextEdit.app is on a different drive). Update: I zipped up TextEdit.app and now when I open blank text files it opens in MacVim like it should. This time when I type "open -e" it throws the following error: LSGetApplicationForInfo() failed with error -10814 while trying to determine the application with bundle identifier com.apple.TextEdit. Which I guess is fine, as long as in the GUI is opening with MacVim instead of TextEdit. I realize it involves the LaunchServices.framework database, but I can't figure out how to use that for hell. I realize to some this is a weird request, so I ask if you don't have any good input you just ignore it.
I feel stupid for even asking this because it seems like something I'd normally be able to figure out but I've searched a bit with no results. Oddly enough, this only seems to have become an issue since the 10.6.4 update. In Mail, I can't seem to set the default email address to be used when composing a new email.
For various reasons I prefer to use Entourage as my default e-mail client, but although I have set Entourage to be my default email client in Preferences whenever another application tries to send an automated email (Such as iCal for an alarm) then it tries to open Mail which is not set up...
Does anyone know if its possible to change this? I don't like being forced to use Mail.
in Mail, the order of the accounts specified which was the default one (i.e. the one at the top of the list). I have 3 email accounts. For some reason, my Gmail account is always the default one. I want my MobileMe account to be the default.
I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
My Macbook Pro loses print options after a while when I work with Photoshop. I can not type in email or in text editor. Only thing that helps is to restart the computer. The error occurs both when I am working in Photoshop (CS3) and (CS5). The error did not exist before. Has 8 GB of Ram and 425 GB of free hard disk. What to do?Â
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 on my iMac. I also have iPhoto as it came with the iMac when I bought it. I don't really want to use iPhoto at all. I want to use PSE. How do I set my computer to open PSE when I insert my memory card or when I plug in my iPhone or for any other thing that uses photos? Can I just completely uninstall iPhoto?Â
I'd like to change the Safari default favicon: I already looked through the Resources folder and used F-Script to see if I could find anything, but I was not succesfull. Is there any way to customize this icon?
I've stumbled across some kind of glitch an I was wondering if anyone could shed light on it. Here are the symptoms...
Macbook Pro 17" OSX 10.6.5 Safari 5.0.3
The whole page in Safari will go a bit insane (see pictures, glitching images change every half a second or so) whenever I click on the 'reply' text box when reading an email. As soon as the text cursor loads, glitch out. Interesting symptoms are that this happens sporadically, 3 times in 3 months, and although it recurs after refreshing the page, restarting Safari, or restarting the computer, it passes with time. Also interesting, when I went to take a full screen screenshot (alt+cmd+3) the computer produced a fully black image (makes a convenient black background incidentally) although when taking a partial screenshot (alt+cmd+4) it works fine.
i'm using Apple Mac OSX SL in french and I noticed that a few months ago, some of my default folders such as Downloads, Desktop, Images, Videos etc, switched from french to english. So now when I click on Users-MyName I have half the list in English, half the list in French. The problem is, how can I change those folders back in French? I tried to rename them but their names are locked...
I was using an extension called 'yaysyoutube' to set the default quality on YouTube to the highest possible res, but the latest nighties of Webkit have totally broken it. Does anyone know of any alternatives?
A quick question. On the far left side of the dock, what is the default icon that is there? For some reason I seen mine go up in a cloud and I can't remember what it is. Right now I have "Finder, Dashboard etc...
I changed the account preferences (in the System Preferences) so that the username is pointed to Data/users/username
The Finder icon in the dock still opens to to Programs/users/username, even after rebooting. All other apps appear to be using Data/users/username for saving files and other stuff.
How do I change the Finder on the Dock to open to Data/users/username?
For reasons that I will not go into here, I have a first initial and middle name, not a first name and middle initial like most people. It played havoc with the registrar at my college. My Address Book card has my first name as "G" and my middle name as "Ralph". Whenever programs automatically fill in my name, they use my first initial only. For example, Pages puts my author name as "G Kuntz". Is there any way to get my default name to be "G Ralph Kuntz", other than setting my first name to "G Ralph" and my middle name to blank ("")?
I'm using MAC os 10.6.1 and my MBP region is Russian(Ukraine) I want to set my default language in applications (to type - not menu language)as English. How to do it? For some reason all application start and change my Input Source to Russian every time.
A co-worker (who isn't English speaking) would like to change Safari so that when he enters a site name into the address bar (for example "ford") that Safari doesn't automatically add ".com" to the address. Instead he wants the browser to use ".ch" (Switzerland) as the default autocomplete in the address line. Anyone know how we can change that (maybe in Terminal)..?
I'm trying to change the default program that opens PDF files in safari from preview to Adobe acrobat reader. I'm trying to do this because I prepare taxes and preview doesn't seem to fill in fields properly on forms such as

In Adobe reader->Preferences->internet Display PDF in browser using Adobe Reader (9.3.1) is checked and beyond this I'm not sure what to do to change from preview to reader.
