Software :: Software To Convert Analog Cassettes And LP's To Digital?
Mar 28, 2009
My computer is a Mac OS X 5.6 Leopard. I do have a McLelland UP-2 USB phono preamp. and an ADS Tech Instant music N3288 converters. What kind of software can I use to convert analog cassettes and LP's to digital?
I would like to convert cassette tapes to CD/DVD. What is the most straightforward way to do it. I have an old sony cassette walkman and I wonder if that might be suitable to use, if so, with what and how?
I have a box of rapidly degrading VHS tapes that i'd like to preserve thru digitizing. i've heard of external converters that you can buy that'll let you do it on your own instead of paying a lot for someone else to do it.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard 10.5.6, and the clock is being weird. Last weekend we put the clocks forward an hour here in the UK and I suspect this has something to do with it. What's happening is that my clock is displaying an hour earlier than it actually is, and if I put it into manual mode rather than relying on the Euro Apple timeserver, that fixes it but then the time on my Mail is wrong - it says each message was received a hour before it actually was.
Then it gets really odd - if I change the timezone to London BST and then check the time & date panel, the digital clock still reads an hour early, but the analogue one beneath it displays the right time Then if I close the panel and re-open, I find it's reverted to GMT and both clocks say it's an hour early.
A number of products (speakers, headphones) include a Dolby 5. compatible Toslink digital to multichannel analog (3 mini headphone in particular) converter box. I can't seem to find one for sale separately.
Finding an effective way to transfer old VHS videos to my Mac with Yosemite so that I can burn them to DVDs. These are so important to me as they include videos of my three children from birth until the age of DVDs. There is NOTHING out there that I can find that will work. The "Debut" program available online for free does not clarify whether it will work with a Mac or with Yosemite.

My friend is looking into buying the new 27" iMac Core i7 to replace his PC desktop. The only thing holding him back is that he has an analog surround sound system he uses for his speakers. I am having a hard time myself finding a converter that can make his speakers work in the iMac's optical digital output port. Any products out there that will do that?
Still trying to convert VHS video to digital to my mac. I am using a PYRO A/V Link Converter API-557. If my mac can read this device or its to old. I have tried every thing and my Mac can not see the PYRO converter via Firewire.
I recently purchased a DANE-ELEC Zpen, I now realise that while it will capture my handwriting as an image it does not convert my handwriting to digital text when I use Mac OSX. It has this functionality on a PC. I wonder is there some software available for Mac OSX that could convert handwriting to text. With the Zpen the files are saved using the extension.
Does anyone know if GeekTool (or any other similar tools) can be used to bring up an analog clock on the desktop? Especially with a custom-designed clockface?
The analog audio input on my Mac Pro has stopped working.Audio output still OK; USB audio input works fine but nothing from analog audio input.I know it's getting a signal as I can send the mixer output to a Zoom H4n and it records fine, but I need it to go directly into the computer for tutorial voiceovers. I've tried recording in Quicktime Player, Soundtrack Pro, Camtasia and Screenflow.I get no volume indication in the System Preferences>Sound panel.I opened Apple Midi Setup>analog input and I can adjust volume on the two channels but "Master" is stuck at zero.
Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), MacPro2,1 Quad-Core Intel Xeon
When I plug my MacBook into an external audio source via the headphone-jack using the red and white cables (do not know the technical name), I only receive sound out of one speaker. At first I thought one of my stereo speakers had blown out, but I plugged my computer into another stereo using another cord and it still only plays one speaker. Also, when I plug in any set of headphones I only still receive sound through one speaker (the left one). My computers speakers still work, and when nothing is plugged in it still says under the output type that it's Built-in Output. I also noticed that sometimes (but not every time) when I unplug something from the headphone jack that a red light flashes around two times, but it does not stay lit when there is nothing plugged in.
**Another note: The sound is not in mono in one speaker, it is just like one speaker is turned off.
How do I connect my 2008 Intel 20" iMac to my 2005 Philips/Magnavox analog crt television for streaming online content? The tv has both rca & s-video connections, whilst the mac has mini-dvi.
I'm looking to use the speakers (Logitech X-540) with my laptop with 5.1... but this is an analog system (has green/black/orange inputs), and Macbook Pros only output with optical through mini-TOSLink. What's the best (read cheapest) device for decoding the optical output to analog?
If this won't work, I'm probably willing to shell out a bit more cash (Z-5500 perhaps). If you have a digital 5.1 system recommendation ($350 or less), let me know.
I'm converting analog video from a camcorder and vhs player through the elgato converter to a macbook pro 2011. I then have to convert the files to apple pro res LT using mpeg streamclip before they are compatible with FCP7. What converter box will output the video to a format that is FCP7 friendly? Not sure if the canopus units are what will do the trick.

Why can't I hear my music keyboard when it is connected thru the Analog Audio line-in port? Looking at the System Pref. - Sound menu - in-put - Line in Built-in Audio, I can see activity on the input levels when I press the Kawai piano keyboard but no sound is heard. All other sound systems- I-tunes etc are operating properly.
I have a Mac Pro with an optical line in. I bought a cable and connected it to the Mac Pro, but the receiver(where I want to plug the line in) is old and only received optical. Is there some sort of adapter that would convert the connect that doesn't cost $200? I was able to connect an analog cable from the front of the mac pro's headphone jack into the back of the receiver, but the sound isn't really the greatest.
Is there a digital pen that is compatible with OS X? I'm looking for something similar to Logitech's version, but not Wacom. I already have a Graphire3 and I don't like it. I'd like to be able to write on any type of paper and then have it digitized into Word on my PowerBook so I can have copies of my notes and I can search through them with Spotlight.
Upgraded to 10.5.3 and suddenly my digital out is no longer working. It'll play fine out of the internal speakers, but nothing at all coming from the digital optical out. Any chance someone with an older Mac Pro could test their digital out for sound?
1) Is the Western Digital 1TB RE3 3.5 HD recommended for the 8 Core MP? Or am I better of sticking to the WD 1TB Black Caviar? 2) When ordering my HDD do I also need the cables? Or do I just need to order the drive as it is?
I own an 8 gig iPhone but prefer to take notes using a digital pen. Never have used one and would like to know which is the *BEST* one for OS X? I heard that the Logitech IO2 Digital Pen is only supported for Windoze platforms (WinXP and Windows Vista). Also heard that Pen-It is supported for OS X. What I am looking for is a digital pen which enables this: Lets me draw diagrams in my own handwriting. Allows me to take notes. Converts whatever I drew or whatever note I took into a digital format on my computer. My primary platform is OS X. But I would prefer to use one which perhaps supported both (OSX & Windoze). Question(s): 1. What would I use to write / draw on? 2. Is it a specialized note pad? 3. And lastly, where can I buy it?
Anyone see this or use it before? [URL:...] It's going for $59.95 right now for the holidays with this link; [URL:...] Sounds like a great deal if it's as good as or better than the Elgato eyeTV.
I have a dual 1.42 PPC 2MB L3cpp 2GB DDR SDRAM G4 tower, with two additional dual-250's HDD. I have been looking online for a while now checking out what would work best for converting VHS on to this system. my goal is to convert, do some small editing, and then archive it on my external in either .avi or .mp4 formats. I have read in the other forums that using a DV cam is best, but they are usually talking about using it with iMovie or another newer editing program that won't work on my OS so what should work best? firewire?USB 2.0? one converter box? dv cam plus converter box? I have 10.4.11OS and really can not upgrade any further.
~sedna GmbH has produced a Mac based digital signage solution being distributed in North America by Activate The Space. Does anyone have any experience dealing with either of these companies? Has anyone seen or used the software?
