I've decided to move from firefox to safari after discovering glims. One thing that I often find myself doing (to no avail) is holding the command key and pressing a number to jump to a specific tab (tabs from left to right correspond to numbers on the keyboard). Is this feature available somewhere in safari under different hotkeys? I can't find it.
View 7 RepliesI turned on the aforementioned feature and I've been trying to use it. I can do it on my multitouch mac and the character recognition works fine (even the suggested ones) but how do I select it? I'm getting so frustrated with this.

I know you have the option to choose what you want to sync, but let's say that I only want to sync some document files with iCloud, can I do that? Or Do I have to sync all documents if that is the option I choose?

I have a page "Welcome" next to other pages ("About Me"...).
Since yesterday when I open iWeb and click on the "Welcome" name to select the page (to modify or just look at it), iWeb immediatelly quits. The same happens when I follow a link to "Welcome" from another page.
I can access all other pages with no problems.
I tried deleting iWeb's preferences file, restoring an older copy of my domain.site2 file, overwriting iWeb with another copy of iWeb (same version), nothing changed.
This concerns iWeb 3.0 (build 301) on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Darwin 10.2).
I'm brand new to mac, just got a 15" mbp. On my PC I was constantly used to clearing cookies, temp files, history, etc under properties on IE, because for security reasons, and to keep viruses at bay. What does the "Empty Cache" feature do on Safari 4? Is that the same as clearing cookies?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.
I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?
My favorite aspect of the browser so far. Really makes many articles to read a pleasure with a smooth font and layout.

I have a huge amount of bookmarks and folders. I can't figure out how to search my bookmarks by the name I gave the bookmark or folder. I use Safari most but also Firefox and Chrome. I use all with xMarks and LastPass so I can use my bookmarks, etc., with all my browsers.

I just installed Safari 3.2.1 and find that I have no operable Back- Forward browse feature.
The buttons are there but always grayed out as if no previous page existed. Too, when I right click on a web page I no longer get "back" as a default. It comes up "reload" no matter where on the page I click. Finally, when I view History the only link displayed is the page that I am on. To get to a previous page I must select "Earlier Today". I DO NOT have Private Viewing selected.
What gives? This is a primary feature. lacking it makes it very difficult to use the browser.
I have always used Firefox, but I am finally getting used to Safari. There are a lot if cool features that Firefox doesn't have. In Firefox, I could start typing my usernames and it would automatically fill it in. How do I get Safari to do this? I don't want Safari to remember my passwords, just the usernames so I don't have to type them each time I log in.

However, along with mouse gestures, the thing that is really holding me back is that there doesn't seem to be auto-scrolling. The little icon that pops up when you press the middle mouse button and scrolls the page automatically. Is there really no auto-scroll or am I missing something?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have set [URL] as a top site. However the Citibank page does not display correctly when viewing all of my top sites. The error message for the Citibank page reads "Your browser is not accepting cookies." When i click on the page, it does fully load. Â
Citibank is the only page that does not display correctly within the top sites window display. I have attempted to changed the cookie settings with no success. Is anyone else expierencing this problem with Citibank?

The reason is my university uses Blackboard / Vista and every time I log in it asks me if I want to allow it to run. I refuse to do so, and it doesn't have an option to never allow it to run for this site.

When I search for something in the Google-toolbar in Safari (5.0.1), it does not autocomplete the words anymore. I'm guessing I turned the auto-complete feature off by accident. I have no idea how to turn it back on. I'm on 10.6.4

View 9 Replies View RelatedI discovered a bit of an oddity yesterday.
I did a search on Google for a message board for an NFL team (Baltimore Ravens). The top link on Google was the message board on the official team site. When I clicked on the link, it redirected me to some random shady site. When I tried again, I got through fine. But I then reset Safari (deleting the cookies), tried it again, and the same thing happened. Yahoo provided the same issue.
I do not download anything except for Software Updates (I know about the trojans posing as codecs and pirated software, and have not downloaded anything of the such).
Out of curiosity, I tried Googling the website on a PC with Firefox, and had no problem. I downloaded Safari to that same PC, and the same thing occurred, so this clearly is a browser specific problem. Also of note is that on the PC, the AV detected a trojan about 5 minutes later.
I tried disabling Java, and the Google link wouldn't open the webpage the first time, but I did not get redirected. Typing the address in directly provided no problems.
I am at a loss. Is my system secure? I keep up with all updates (I am currently on 10.5.8, though). Has my system been compromised at all?
I am trying to access a website [URL] and in Safari I receive "Safari can't find the server" error message. In mozilla I am able to goto the home page but if I click on any of the links I receive "server not found" error message. I have not run into this problem with any other sites and was wondering why this is happening.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a website that I need to open with Safari as it won't display properly in Firefox 3.6.3. From the Address Bar in Safari, I dragged a link to my desktop, right-clicked and checked it to always open with Safari. The name of the link is something like "PITA.webloc"
When it opens that first time, it dose open in Safari, but subsequently, always opens in FF. I also right-clicked to "Get Info" and indicated it to always open with Safari. While "Get Info" shows that correctly, it still always opens in FF.
I want to remove a Safari plug-in. I know how to find the plug-ins that have been installed (Safari > Help > Installed Plug-Ins), but the names of the plug-ins mean nothing to me. I do know, however, when the plug-in (the one that I want to remove) was installed. Is there a way to see the list of installed plug-ins by install date?
