PowerPC :: IMac G5 Screen Dull And Faded Looking
Apr 23, 2009This morning I found my iMac G5 was accidentally left on all night. The screen saver was running so I didn't think there was a problem. However, my screen is now noticeably darker than it was yesterday. I've checked all the settings and they all appear fine. The brightness is set to 100%. My co-worker has the same iMac as me and her screen in set at 50% brightness and still looks brighter and crisper than mine. I've restarted, shut down, left off for about 10 minutes, no change.

May 31, 20091. Today, I turned on my MacBook running 10.5.7 bought in the Summer of 2006 and the colors were washed out/faded. They were noticeably more bluish-purple. This is the third time it happened over the past year, so it is incredibly hard to replicate for a genius. A restart fixed the issue. I did not mess with the color schemes (I actually don't even know how to use them), nor have I dropped my laptop in the past three years I have owned it. Anyone know what is the issue here? I'm pretty sure it's hardware-related. I am concerned because my AppleCare is expiring this coming September, and I don't know how to replicate the problem.
2. Also, after a good period of nonuse, one-fourth of my screen (the lower left corner) is noticeably "darker" after I turn it on. The area goes back to its correct brightness after 10-15 minutes, like the screen has to warm up first. I've had this problem since I first purchased the unit but this dark spot has definitely gotten bigger. Is this normal for a laptop?
3. Coconut battery says that I have only gone through 4 battery cycles. I've calibrated the battery and the program still says the same thing. The battery I replaced quite a while ago did not have this problem.
MacBook Air :: Screen Turning Blue Then Faded Back To Normal
Feb 19, 2009This started very suddenly today. I was in finder looking through some pictures when my screen suddenly turned blue. After a second, it faded back to normally, so I continued what I was doing. After about 5 minutes, it happened again, but faded back. It's be less than a half-hour, I haven't touched the computer but the screen is turning blue than fading back every half a minute or so. Every now and then, the screen stays blue for about 20 seconds.

MacBook Air :: Slightly Ticker With Superdrive Or Slightly Thinner Without Superdrive?
Jul 27, 2008I was thinking, for the next generation MacBook Air, would you want a slightly thicker (thickest part is 0.9in, tinnest is ~0.35in) laptop with a built in Superdrive, more ports, etc, or would you perfer that Apple moves away from this with a thinner computer (0.1in thinnest, 0.6in thickest), but with same limited ports.
I would actually perfer thicker with a superdrive, since I want an air but I want it to be like a MacBook but thinner. What do you think? Btw, this is assuming the regular MacBook does not change in size, since that would sway peoples opinions.
MacBook Air :: With Screen Tilted Back - Front Left Lifts Slightly Off Table?
Jul 20, 2010I have the rev. C Air, recently bought. It works fine but I have noticed that when I tilt the screen back almost all of the way that the front left side lifts slightly off the desk. I can see that the front left pad is not touching the desk. Is this an idiosyncrasy of the computer? Do others have the same symptom? Of course once I place my hands on the computer and start typing it's not really a problem, but I can certainly feel it click down to the desk or if I lift my hands off and slightly push down there is a space there. I think it is a weight issue, because once I pull the screen slightly towards me the space disappears as well as the issue.

Nov 27, 2009My mac recently started printing light and faded. My printer is an HP laserjet 5si w/postcript and network card. I can print fine from my PC, everything from the mac is faded. It makes no difference whether I print with the printer driver or through gimp-print. The result is the same. I am running 10.4.11.

Sep 26, 2010Over the last week, my 7 year old Powerbook G4 began showing faint pixels in the background which is more obvious if you are scrolling over menus also when a menu is highlighted. The passwords are still stored, but the links don't come up when I start typing them and also, I have to physically type in a website to get there, nothing loads automatically. 13" MBP was Apple's best selling computer in recent months, I wonder if the 15" will end up back on top now?
PowerPC :: Powerbook G4 Screen Red Pixelated / Screen Going Out?
Jul 8, 2008I have a G4 Powerbook 1.67 that I don't take anywhere. It just sits on an iCurve as a home computer. Never been dropped, damaged, looks as good as new.
That said, the screen sometimes gives me these red moving pixels which distorts the screen image a bit (pic attached). And lately the screen has been going out at times with lines across the screen, then intermittent blackouts.

Jul 18, 2006I bought my mac back in Feb. and I received a free printer along with it. The Epson all in one Stylus piece of ****. Well I shook the individual ink catridges well and installed them all. Since then I haven't been able to get a clear sheet of paper. All the colours look faded but the actual picture is not distorted. It's just the contrast of the colour thats gone. now is there a way I can alter the amount of ink my printer is using? I have tried aimlessly, looking for an option but I cannot find any.

May 5, 2012Yesterday I have noticed slight change of colors on my iMac 27 inch monitor. The change was really subtle but newer the less important. I'm an illustrator and I use subtle textures and brushes in my work. Yesterday suddenly, those textures were not subtle on some pictures on my web site but really noticeable. Especially on black on black textures (when you have different shades of black/gray). I thought that the mistake is coming from Safari browser, but the same thing was visible on the Chrome too and when I opened same pictures like jpeg with Preview or Photoshop. After that I noticed that generally all display was slightly brighter, slightly more bluish. I didn't do anything unusual to make it that way. Today, after putting iMac to sleep and turn it up again the colors are like they used to be and it seems that problem is solved. I would like to know what went wrong with the display/monitor, because I have worked all day yesterday on my illustrations with wrong display of colors and now I will have to correct them today.I have run Profile first aid with ColorSinc but result was that everything was ok, no problem find.

Oct 6, 2006I think my backlight went out?
I restarted and nothing. Still dim. I can barely, barely see things like if I hit expose, I can see shifting rectangles.
Also, I've been having this issue where the keyboard mostly stopped working -- if I hit kjjh, it'll come up as 3443 or something. It's usually fixed with a restart.
I have it covered by a year of applecare until feb 24, 2007 -- but I haven't registered it yet. Should I register and then call apple or what?
This comes at a REALLY bad time. I have design projects coming up everywhere and of course, despite my $250 external hard drive, i haven't been backing things up because I'm an idiot.
Can I hook it up to a external monitor just to make a backup of my hard drive?

Sep 5, 2006I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.5GHz. As far as I can remember, the screen had almost no "play" when I bought it and now has about 1.25in of "play" when you adjust the screen angle. A guy in my dorms has one and it adjusts very smoothly. Lets say I'm closing the screen to put it to sleep, the screen will come forward for about an inch before there is any resistance from the hinges. What should I do? I bought apple care so I'm guessing that might come in to play. Is this something I can fix or do I just take it to an Apple store?

Sep 30, 2006I've got a 15in aluminium powerbook, a couple of years old. So far I've had nearly everything go wrong with it. replaced screen, knackered hd, ram port failiure, and a battery that lasts 10 minutes.
I recently replaced the harddrive, as the standard issue one packed up a few times. I followed the instructions on ifixit.com website. To my delight I actually managed to do it, and the pb worked well for a few weeks. Then suddenly, the screen froze and faded to white. So far I've tried everything -
Resetting the pmu. Resetting the pram and nvram. Opened it up to check I reconnected everything.
and checked to see if the hd is still working starting it up from another computer, and it works fine. Everythings still there. Someone also said if you hold 'R' key down on start up it resets the lcd.
BUT STILL BLANK!!!!!!!!!
The screen still seems to turn black after a little while, indicating the energy saver is still on. I'm thinking I may have dislodged an lcd connection or something?
PowerPC :: Screen Broken Off A Powerbook G4
Nov 7, 2006i have a friend who has a powerbook g4 (black keyboard) that was sold to him for very cheap, unfortunately the screen was torn off the base of the computer. Its in perfect running condition but he cant take it anywhere because the screen needs to be supported against a wall as it cant stand on its own. Is there any inexpensive way to fix the screen and restick back to the base of the laptop and if the only way to go is get a professional to do it, how much would it cost him to get it fix. He got the computer for 50 bucks so having the computer work perfectly even if he has to spend at most 300 dollars would be great.

Lately my computer screen randomly turns itself off, the whole think going black, like it was asleep or off, but the computer keeps running just fine. Like i might have itunes playing or be burning a disc and that goes on just fine. The computer itself stays running. What I've been doing is putting the computer to sleep by closing the notebook, letting it rest for a few seconds and turning it back on by opening it back out. This fixes the problem for anywhere from 5 seconds to indefinitely, until it happens again. Lately its been happening more. The computer is 4 years old, but the model itself, probably 5.

Jan 14, 2007I encountered a problem this evening with my Powerbook G4 15 inch Powerbook. When I was opening the Powerbook, awakening it from sleep it seemed there seemed to be an abnormally bright flash, then the screen went almost completely blank. Luckily, I was able to see enough to burn my docs to a disc in the event this was a serious problem. It seemed the rest of the laptop was fine.
When I restarted the computer, the screen appeared to be fine. I ran Onyx in the event it could clean anything up, and when it was running the screen appeared to go attempt to go to sleep again (although it was not set). Touching the trackpad immediately woke it up without a problem. After restarting after Onyx finished and using it for about a half hour I have not encountered the problem since.
Is this a sign of a failing LCD or possibly a bigger problem or just a harmless isolated event? Is it worth trekking over to the Applestore? I'm covered under Applecare.
PowerPC :: Powerbook Screen Flicks?
Apr 5, 2007in the last week i've been watching some awkward behavior from my powerbook g4 lcd screen. when i move the screen (rotate to close or open) the screen flicks. white horizontal pixel strips emerge on my screen, in a fractions of seconds. seems like a malfunction . i've never dropped my powerbook, so it could not be jammed by a fall. this started to happen with no reason that i could understand. my powerbook has 1 and half years. anyone with the same prob? i could use some help here.... i thought this could be a temporary problem but it has passed almost a week!

Jul 5, 2007My PowerBook 1.67 was having a screen issue (ever-present but mobile black spot about the size of a dime). I sent it back Apple and tracked the repair process. According to their repair status updates, within an hour of receiving the PB on Tuesday, is was on its way back to me. I should receive it late today or tomorrow.
Was just wondering if anyone else had this issue in the past and if Apple just replaced the screen. If so, was it new or refurbished, and how can you tell. Any odds that I've been upgraded to a MBP?

I've got it going through an external monitor right now, and is it possible at all to completely remove the screen, and just use the bottom half as a desktop?
