MacBook Pro :: Drive Slightly Noisy?
Nov 9, 2009Actually I find this drive slightly noisy, not too bad but you can definitely hear it spinning and clicking every so often. Anyone else experience this or should I be worried?

View 12 RepliesI'm the owner of a Macbook Pro with 4 gig RAM and a 320gb harddrive. However, I have noticed that the hard drive space is decreasing slightly for seemingly no reason. Case in point, today it went from 197.66gb to 197.50 whilst I was watching TV and just before it went down further for no reason whatsoever.
Although its not a big deal it does arouse my curiosity and annoy me. Is it just virtual memory that will eventually come back or something more sinister? If it continues for a long time the space lost will eventually add up. Since I'm planning on soon buying an iMac these are the sorts of things I need to know.
I was thinking, for the next generation MacBook Air, would you want a slightly thicker (thickest part is 0.9in, tinnest is ~0.35in) laptop with a built in Superdrive, more ports, etc, or would you perfer that Apple moves away from this with a thinner computer (0.1in thinnest, 0.6in thickest), but with same limited ports.
I would actually perfer thicker with a superdrive, since I want an air but I want it to be like a MacBook but thinner. What do you think? Btw, this is assuming the regular MacBook does not change in size, since that would sway peoples opinions.
When I put a CD into the Super Drive on my imac it is clattering & rattling as it reads the disk.
Does this seem right to you guys ?.
A few days ago I replaced my internal hard drive because after 2 months from purchase it crashed. The service people replaced it with a ST3500630AS Q Media and all I can say is that it's noisy. It's really irritating because I used my mac to be completely quiet. Should I be worried and call the service to tell them what's going on or should I let it be?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a brand new Mac user. I have just purchased a MacBook Pro and need advice as to the best way to use my external hard drive with iTunes.I have read previous answers regarding the above question, however I do not currently have any music on my new iTunes and it is already all on my external hard drive. Does this mean I need to complete a slightly different process? Also what must I do when I load new music on to my external?

The unibody does quite well at this I think.
It's been a few weeks my macBook Air fan keeps running at high speed all the time, producing this lovely noise...In the beginning, it would calm down after I quit some apps, like Firefox, but now it's constant.I have a 2,13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13' MacBookAir with 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3 (11D50b) and a 256GB SSD HD?

I noticed my Macbook White (late 2009 model) right speaker is slightly louder than the left one. I have checked the sound balance on my sound setting and its set to balance. Some things I have noticed when playing with the settings. When i shift the balance to the left, there's sound on the right when it's not supposed to. Then when I shift to the right, the left speaker is quiet. This problem seems to happened on older Macbooks - [URL].
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy lid seems to overhang very VERY slightly over the left side of the case. I got some people in my family to look at it, and they honestly don't even notice it. The distance is the thickness of a piece of paper. So small it is barely noticeable when looked at, but you can feel a slight difference when you rub your finger over the edge. Should I be concerned about this? I would take pictures of it, but the Macro mode on my camera isn't good enough to properly show this issue. Go Figure... Will this affect hard shell cases? I've also learned something. People that are O.C.D. really have a hard time enjoying their Macs. Seems like we spend more time scrutinizing every square inch of our equipment that we actually spend enjoying it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just turned on my mid 2009 13in Macbook Pro and noticed my display seems about 4 'clicks' dimmer than before. Everything else works fine. Can LED screens dim over time? Could my LED driver somehow have caused the screen to dim? Can just the LED portion of my display be replaced?Â

Does anyone else have an issue with the HDD in their 13" MBPs? I had a 2.26ghz 2009 model and it had a toshiba drive that was silent.
Just got a mid 2010 model with a hitachi drive and I can hear it making noise and its really loud when the head parks if you move the laptop. Has anyone else experienced this?
The glowing Apple Logo behind the screen seems to be glowing a slight purple colour, but mainly white. Is this normal due to the screen being so thin?

I have a fairly recent 17" MBP and I've discovered today that the headphone socket is a bit looser than I'm used to. My usual headphones click in as usual, but very little effort is required to pull them out. I have recently been using a client's cable to hook my MBP up to their speakers, and I have a feeling that the 3.5mm jack (which was a fairly tight fit) has somehow worn the socket.
Is it possible that using a slightly 'fatter' jack can damage a socket like that? I'm a bit wary of people plugging their cables into my laptop now, as I don't want to exacerbate the problem! Anyone else experienced this?
I just got a MacBook Pro, and the button being part of the trackpads touch area is cusing me problems. Freuently when I go to click the button it moves the cursor slightly causing the click to be in the wrong place.Â
Is there a way to turn off the lower area of the trackpad or something? Can I replace it with a trackpad with a seperate button?

I bought a MBP13 with a 250 GB. I noticed that the HD is a Seagate 250 GB 5400 rpm.
So i thought I would upgrade it to a Seagate 500 Gb 5400 rpm(Momentus).
Now the noise is noticeable. Not much, but you can hear it.
Should a 500GB harddisk be more noisy than a 250 Gb? I thought it would be the same. The only difference I saw between the two harddisk is that the old HD had a Apple logo on it.
Otherwise its the same brand and model, just with a higher capacity.
If I had upgraded at apple would I have been rid of the noise or is this just something that follows along with the higher capacity?
I just got my new air and absolutely love it. I had seen pretty impressive graphics performance. What I didn't expect was the fan noise. I knew it was loud, but this thing sounds like the old G5's! It makes me kind of scared to play games to be honest. Are they going to substantially decrease the life of my machine? Do you think a laptop cooler would really help with this?

My MacBook has consistently been giving off a hissing sound, as if air was escaping somewhere, from the front right side of the machine. I find if I press lightly in the right place, the noise all but ceases. I was wondering if there was a (safe) way to apply the same pressure permanently.

well ive recently started playing bloons 5, i always use a cooling pad when i play after about 10min my fan would start going really loud and i would feel my mac allover the place and it wouldnt even be hot yet in my stats section its says its
160f
5000rpmÂ
i have a fan app downloaded that regulates my fan but i forgot but it was called and cant find it to change the setting..
My fans have always been running at 2000 RPMs. I downloaded an app from the mac app store which caused the CPU to overheat, and in order to control this I read that it was wise to download smcFanControl. I downloaded this and added 2 settings, 2.4K RPMs and 2.8K RPMs. This worked to cool down my laptop, and once I realized that my CPU is at 36 degrees Celsius, I set the fans back to the default settings at 2000 RPMs. Now, my fans are constantly running at this speed according to smcFanControl and iStat. My core is cool, not even warm, yet all I can hear are the fans spinning fast to push hot air out of it, when there is none (I've put my ear to it to hear and feel the heat, there is no heat coming out).
I've had this laptop for less than 24 hours, it's a:
15' Macbook Pro late 2011
Intel Core i7 Quad Core 2.4gHz
7200RPM 750GB HDD
Also, this was not occurring prior to downloading smcFanControl (I've turned it off, deleted it, nothing works) - Even after turning off the laptop, the fans stopped, automatically after turning the laptop on the fans came back on. Some extra information: When I put my ear to the bottom of the laptop, it sounds like a vibration.
Hope you can help out here. Been having a few problems reading DVDs ( slightly funny sound when spinning then spits them out ) - although it would read some OK, such as System disk.I out in a DVD just now, and it pulled it in, but then nothing - no spinup at all.And now I can't eject it - tried the eject button, logging out and back in again, restarting while holding down the trackpad button.Nothing worksAny ideas?Macbook Pro 2.8
View 20 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought the stock 17" MBP and am loving it! However just a quick question to all those who have used it. I have noticed that when I pick it up, the bottom panel underneath sort of bends slightly when my fingers press against it. It feels like the alu is bending slightly only in certain places on the base. I may just be another paranoid mac freak but has anyone else found this? I had an old 15" MBP and didn't have any similar issues with that. Loving the computer tho, the screen is fantastic!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the rev. C Air, recently bought. It works fine but I have noticed that when I tilt the screen back almost all of the way that the front left side lifts slightly off the desk. I can see that the front left pad is not touching the desk. Is this an idiosyncrasy of the computer? Do others have the same symptom? Of course once I place my hands on the computer and start typing it's not really a problem, but I can certainly feel it click down to the desk or if I lift my hands off and slightly push down there is a space there. I think it is a weight issue, because once I pull the screen slightly towards me the space disappears as well as the issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday I have noticed slight change of colors on my iMac 27 inch monitor. The change was really subtle but newer the less important. I'm an illustrator and I use subtle textures and brushes in my work. Yesterday suddenly, those textures were not subtle on some pictures on my web site but really noticeable. Especially on black on black textures (when you have different shades of black/gray). I thought that the mistake is coming from Safari browser, but the same thing was visible on the Chrome too and when I opened same pictures like jpeg with Preview or Photoshop. After that I noticed that generally all display was slightly brighter, slightly more bluish. I didn't do anything unusual to make it that way. Today, after putting iMac to sleep and turn it up again the colors are like they used to be and it seems that problem is solved. I would like to know what went wrong with the display/monitor, because I have worked all day yesterday on my illustrations with wrong display of colors and now I will have to correct them today.I have run Profile first aid with ColorSinc but result was that everything was ok, no problem find.

My university has some Mac Pros (probably bought about 2 or 3 years ago) in the photo studio and to be honest they are really quite loud (especially compared to iMacs and Macbook Pros).
I was wondering if Mac Pros usually are that loud or if it's just a matter of bad maintenance (some of them really sound like the fans are crapping up).
This is going to date you all a lot but I have a powermac g3 (640mb ram, 300mhz) with a 15" apple crt monitor. I moved it into a new room and all of a sudden the display is virbrating slightly. If I switch the refresh rate back to 60 it goes away but then that looks so bad that I have to bump it back up to 70hz. Is there any settings that I can change to fix this vibrating? Like I said, this didn't happen until I moved the computer 20 feet into a neighboring room.
