Software :: Safari Has Refusing To Allow Pop-up Windows To Spawn?
Dec 8, 2009
Recently my Safari has been refusing to allow pop-up windows to spawn, instead directing them to open in new tabs. Minor issue, to be sure, but really annoying to pop-out a google talk chat and having it open in a new, huge, tab instead of small window (better to multi-task that way). Same with Rhapsody, I'd like a small player on the side of the screen I can monitor, not a seperate tab.I'm currently running Safari 4.0.4 on 10.6.2. I have pop-up blocking disabled and Glimmer Blocker disabled. I also have Glims installed, but I have the option checked to allow new windows to open if a site requests one. Has anyone come across similar behavior in their safari and know of a fix? Am I being a knucklehead and missing something obvious?
I'm running Safari 4.1.3 under Tiger 10.4.11. (Machine specs below.)Â
Selecting either Show All Bookmarks or Show All History brings up only totally blank tabs labeled bookmarks:// in both cases, not the familiar window where one can organize and edit Bookmarks and view and search History.
Have already repeatedly trashed the Bookmarks.plist and the History.plist, as well as com.apple.Safari.plist in my user Library. (There are corresponding files in my root level Library. Also Repaired Permissions and Verified disk.Â
My default browser is Firefox, but I like to use Safari occasionally in a couple of sites.

My macbook pro refused to allow me to log on for several hours yesterday. It was suggested by someone in the IT department at work that it sounded as if someone else was in control of my computer.

My MacBook is refusing to boot from the hard drive. I went to do the Boot Camp process to install Windows 7, and of course my dumbass didn't print out the 13 page instructions or read them. So I partitioned my hard drive, then put in the Windows 7 disc. After that, boot camp didn't do anything. So of course I was stupid enough as to restart my MacBook and try to boot up from the optical drive by holding down "c." When it finished the only thing that came up is a black screen with a 1. and a 2. and it says "Select CD-ROM Boot Type: _ " I can't get past that. I tried restarting and holding down "d," but that didn't work.
When I try to turn up the backlight of my keyboard, it keeps giving me the "zero" symbol that looks like a O with a / through it. I have not spilled anything and haven't tampered with anything. Will it refuse to light up if I'm in a lit enough area?
I was using my Mac mini last night and it played audio fine. (I have it hooked up to my HDTV in the living room.) However, this morning I went to watch a standup comedian and the audio wouldn't play. I rebooted. Removed the audio cord and plugged it back in. Took the video cord and plugged it back in.
Audio cord: composite Video: mini-DVI -> DVI -> HDMI
Nothing will play. There's no external speakers or anything, it's playing through the TV's built in speakers. Normal satellite TV will play audio as well.
my macbook is only about 10 months old but my battery just started refusing to charge. the light on my magsafe lights green but the lights on the battery don't light. the battery icon in the status bar says (not charging). The battery says 0% and if i unplug the charger it dies instantly. do i need a new battery or is there something i can do?
Again--my iMac desktop computer (10.8.6) is refusing to go to sleep, as it usually does automatically if left alone for a short time. Even when put to sleep manually, it pops on again by itself. Wasting a lot of electricity!
so after my friend got his gmail account hacked I decided it was time for a new password. Updated it in gmail, on my iphone and iPad and no problems. However friggin' Mac Mail refuses to accept the new password. I even wrote it out in Text Edit and pasted it into both the gmail web interface and mac mail. Gmail web interface works just fine but Mac Mail refuses to accept the new password.
Is there any way I can fix this save for deleting my gmail account and recreating it(something I am want to do since I have a metric ton of messages).
Oy, Apple ignoring these tiny bugs is getting quite annoying....
For what its worth I'm on 10.6.4 and everything else is up to date.
Update, now I'm getting "The server returned the error: Web login required. (Failure)"
but it doesn't clear when I log into the web mail....
Last night I encountered a problem with my seagate FreeAgent external HD/D. I right-clicked on the desktop icon to eject it as per usual and once the icon had vanished I pulled out the USB cable. However, I then got a message saying that I didn't eject the device properly and might have lost data, etc. When I plugged the external drive in this morning I found that it wouldn't mount. I am in a state of panic at the moment because it is almost 150gb of data that I really did not want to lose! I read in one of the previous threads that this is a common problem amongst macs but I wasn't able to discern if this was a permanent error and if it means my drive is shafted. I ran disk utility and this is what it came up with:
Verifying volume "disk1s1" Checking HFS Plus volume. Invalid node structure Invalid B-tree node size Invalid node structure Invalid B-tree node size The volume needs to be repaired. Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit 1 HFS volume checked Volume needs repair
I tried to repair it using disk utility but it wasn't able to do it. I am now using the demo of Data Rescue II to do a thorough scan which will take several hours but I'm wondering what options I have. Are there any other mac tools I can use? I am a total newbie when it comes to macs having only made the transition from PC to Mac several months ago and I don't know what tools I can utilize to fix this problem, if it even can be fixed.
The trash is refusing to empty a couple of font packages, saying that they are locked. But 'Get Info' shows them not to be locked. I own permissions for the Mac.
Usually Safari opens all previous windows upon startup, but not always. Today was one of those days. I last used DataBackup yesterday, but I'm not sure how to access the proper file to restore the missing window. I'm using v5.1.5
Info: iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8), 4GB memory
Since version 5.1.5 (5.x.x for sure) safari just wont launching on PC with Winx64 ultimate.I tried clean up cache, appdata, safari install folder -I noticed in Taskmanager safari.exe and werfault.exe appers for a few seconds when I try launching the browser, but no erorr messages at all...
I am too sad because of a problem,I downloaded Safari 4 and installed it on my win 7 and worked fine but when installed safari 5.1.7 after many days,it does not respond, when I click on safari icon it open but does not appear my homepage of google,I think its the problem with the version as Safari 4 works and Safari 5.1.7 does not?
I have spent most of the day today scouring these pages for a solution. I have followed myriad instructions written by B Noir and others. To no avail. Whenever I click the Safari icon, the hourglass appears for a few seconds, but the browser won't launch.
Is it me or Safari 5 on Windows has no support for the <video> element? I did an HTML 5 test on this page [URL:..] and it scored 165 but it scored none in video. I tried Vimeo on HTML 5 and videos wont play. Is it simply disabled? If it is where can I enable it?
Using Windows 7 Pc I open Safari under my Windows Log In which is Home and now when I try install Extension I get the error cant install, The extension that was their is not their either and it was working last week and it was there. So I clicked repair no luck, I uninstalled it and still nothing, so then I logged into the other user account in my Windows 7 Pc which is Guest or I have another one Called Party, and guess what EXTENSIONS INSTALL!!! And all is perfect. So I am lost as to how the Safari after being installed 2 times now ie re installed etc and restarted machine is not working under Home user in Windows.Â
Ps WINDOWS 7 I am on I see allot of posts on how to delete lists etc all on Macs so please remember I am on Windows 7
Whenever I minimize a window in Safari it disappears, rather than show the minimized window on the dashboard. It never used to do that. When I click on the yellow minimizing button, the genie effect brings it to the Safari icon on the dock. From there, it seems to have disappeared.

I've been trying to unistall Safari so I can reinstall Safari and start with a clean slate. However, Safari seems to 'remember' all of my old settings, and use them again after I reinstall the software. Is there a way to wipe any trace of Safari off of my computer, so I can download it like it's 'the first time'?Â
Just recently I took my 13" MacBook Pro (Late 2010 Model) to my local Apple Store. When I brought it there they fixed my problem, but in the mean time they had to completely delete and uninstall Safari and Google Chrome off of my laptop. Before the apple store, my Safari would always open pop-ups and links in a new tab, now they open up in a new window. how to change it so they open in new tabs? The reason I need this changed is I might have unecessary websites open, and they would just be taking up space.Â
so now that i have my dl stack in leopard i dont need the download window to pop up in safari since i can just access the stack. is there a way i can get rid of the downloads window?
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I swing both ways in that I am a windows user but I use Apple products like iTunes and Safari.
Here is my question.
In Windows Vista what folder does Safari keep its bookmarks in? I'm not familiar with Safari on Leopard itself but in the Windows version you can do an EXPORT and save them to a file. Long story, on the drive I'm working on I no longer have that option and I want to rescue my Safari bookmarks before I totally erase my HD.
after looking around in my folders I saw something called a plist or something like that.
Every time I go to click a link, or open a new Safari window, nothing seems to happen. No window, links don't seem to work, though they change color as if activated. Did some searching, found that the windows are opening just fine, but opening on a duplicate screen somewhere where I can't see them. Figured a simple restart would fix this, and it did--for about 3 windows. Now it's right back to the same thing. What's the fix? All software/updates are installed/current.
Now that I got my 24" LCD that apparently can't be pivot from landscape to portrait mode in OSX, I would like to at least be able to view two web pages side by side, since the 24" display is wide enough for this. Alas, I don't see a way of opening a second instance of Safari (the way you can do it with IE Explorer in Windows side).
I'm trying to download the installer file for Safari 4 -- I need both the Windows XP and Vista versions. However, I'm on my Mac right now and Apple.com won't allow me to download Windows versions, just the Mac version. Anyone have direct links to the downloads? (Or can point me in the right direction to finding them?
I'm on Windows 7 atm, I've noticed for a while, that when I hold my mouse over safari 4 in the task bar, the thumbnails pop up of each tab but all but the selected tab are black!
So if I have 3 tabs, and I am in Tab 1, hold my mouse over safari 4 icon, I see tab 1 preview, but tab 2 and 3 are black, if I am in tab 2, tab 1 & 3 are black, and tab 2 is just fine.
