Software :: Photos Display Too Much Small
Sep 23, 2009
I have a Canon Powershot A610 digital camera, and recently I switched laptops to a Macbook Pro. It downloads photos automatically to the iPhoto folder, which I dislike but don't know how to change. iPhoto only lets me view my photos in a slideshow, which is totally inconvenient when I need to move files around and edit things, but for some unknown reason, when I open the photos in any other program, they only display in thumbnail size. Yet they're fine in iPhoto!
I need high-resolution photos for my university projects, and the only way I can get them on this laptop is to open my photos in iPhoto, start a "classic" slideshow (which is still too small, really), take a screenshot of the slideshow, then open the screenshot in another program. This is truly bizzare. Why are my photos displaying in high quality in iPhoto, but stuck at thumbnail size in Premier, Photoshop and every other program I open them in? It's almost completely unworkable, and I know the problem isn't with my camera, as it worked fine on my old laptop.

I'm looking for a small external display for my MacBook Air. By "small" I mean 15 or 17 inches. Do such things even exist any more? I'm trying to fit my office into a very small space. It would be great to have a 24 or 27 inch display, but there's just not room for that. I was considering replacing my 11-inch MBA with a 15-inch MB Pro, but I'd really rather not do that. I love the Air. Then I realized, "Hey, I could just add a 15-inch external display." The problem is that I've been having a hard time finding one that looks reliably high quality.

We're hunting for a small printer for a crowded office space. There's a not much desk space or shelf space.
Only need something to print. No scanning, faxing or other functions! Hoping we can get Canon that is compatible with the inkjet 40 and 41 cartridges as we already have a printer that uses those.
Requirements:
Text documents
Photo printing

My Aperure (version 3.2.2.) can't display certain pictures from the Library. I can see from these "pictures" only their information, rating, adjustments, but not the photo itself. Their is a message saying that the picture was edited with a previous version of Aperture RAW version. BUT the older photos are okay in my Library.

I don't know what I did but I cannot get my photos to show in the normal 2x2 grid showing all photos at once. Instead with "photos" selected from the top left it will show one photo almost full size and then I can use the slider on the right side to scroll thru all my photos at pretty much full size. I want to be able to see the grid view, which is working fine when I select "events". Can anyone help me to get photos back to displaying properly?

For some reason, on Mac:Messenger, I can not see all my contact's display photos. I see very few of my friend's display photos, all others just display as the green msn man.
I've looked into the cache folder of M:M, and there are a lot of display photos in that folder, which belong to my friends, however they're not showing up in the actual program. I can only see like 10% of my friends's display photos in the application.
I can set my own display photo fine. However, after a certain amount of time, a random time, my photo will stop showing up in the window, and I have to reset my display photo again. The image is 150x150 pixels, and is 147kb. It's a bit annoying.

My cache was accidentally cleared last night (I was working on cleaning my computer out, d/led Cocktail and I guess it did it automatically) and all my settings were reset. Everything has been put back to normal, except for my Photobooth-- it won't show any of the old photos taken in the app itself! It just says "No Photos", even though all the photos still remain in the user/Pictures/Photo Booth folder. When I take a new photo, it shows up in the folder right next to the old one so I don't know what the probem is.
Is there any way I can make the photos show back up in the application? None of the folders are locked. Stupid Cocktail.

i have returned all my photos into the new iphoto 9.1.However they aren't displayed the way they used to be. The computer is ignoring all the dates i entered on the individual film rolls and displaying them with date that's embedded on the digital images. An example is i have a film roll which contains photos of my cat Salem which range from 2004 to 2012. This 'folder' used to be displayed at the bottom of all the film rolls as i had it dated 12/25/2020 so i knew where it was and could add to it easily. Now though it's near the top lumped together with 2004 photos dated 2004-2012.How do i get iPhoto to display my photo film rolls the way they were on iphoto 6?I would go back to running TIiger and the apps that came with it including iPhoto 06 but i need snow leopard as i have bought two new Lacie 2 TB drives for storage and they need a newer operating system.

I know by the title you may be saying... here comes yet another post on iPhoto. But I have a suspicion it is much more than that. thus the post in the OSX category. Here is the short version...
I use to have a MacBook Pro (17" if that matters) with OSX 10.5 on it. Back in August '08 I bought a iMac (24") because I had to give the MacBook Back. When I set up the iMac I did the install that allows you to transfer your settings and files to your new computer before I erased everything on the MacBook. Some how I lost a bunch of Pictures I took and had on the MacBook. I just can't find them... i didn't have iPhoto on the MacBook but do on the iMac.
I thought I had lost the photos until one day I pointed the screen saver to my photo folder. Now I can see my photos in the screen saver slide show... but can not see them in iPhoto or in the Photo Folder.I have hope that they are somewhere on my computer but where and how can I get them into iPhoto?

Okay, I was working with iMovie and did something cool...but I don't know how I did it or how to repeat what I did.
I managed to make one "clip" which consists of 6 or 7 photos (imported from iPhoto)...and on top of (inside of?) that clip is the "far far away" title (the Star Wars one). I tried to do the same thing again, and couldn't figure out how I did it in the first place! Oops. Any clues would be great (I tried highlighting several pics and dragging them down to the timeline together...didn't work. I also tried a few other things, but no luck).

My old ti-book won't boot, tried it with the cd, zapped the pram, nothing. So I hooked it to my MacBook Pro via firewire and started it as a T drive. But I can't find our family photos or email (mac mail) files anywhere.
I've also searched the following:
JPG

when viewing photos in iPhoto "Library>Photos", by default, each event is expanded (i.e., triangles are down, and all photos are visible). Is there a single command or keyboard shortcut that will collapse all the individual photos into headers only?

We are an office with a network that does a large amount of printing. We need a good High Capacity Printer, Scanner, Fax machine that is compatible with Macs running OS 10.5 and up. HP "AllInOnes" are not for high capacity office use .
If your company is using a Network High Capacity Printer.

i've been thinking of downgrading from my 17" to a 13".the 17" is great, when you actually sit down and start using it.but to carry around, kindof sucks. not because it's too heavy, just too wide.but is the 13" too small? personal opinions for those who own it?i'm going to go to the apple store and try it out for a little while, but even then. extensive use in a home environment and such is a lot different than using it at the apple store.so, owners of 13". do you love it? or do you wish you went with 15" or something

I just bought a Mac book, it's a 13". The battery life is phenomenal and the trackpad is luxurious. However I find it really difficult to see the text on my screen. In the browser this wasn't a problem as I could zoom in, but the text in the address bar, and in all other applications the font is very small. I looked into changing the DPI for my Macbook and couldn't find a solution. I'm zooming in to see things but it looks distorted and obviously horrible.

Please go easy on me as I am new to Imac and apple systems. I have always used windows before, and when you open an attachment in windows it just opened in to a new window. Is there a way to do this on an imac, rather than have it go into the pop up downloads window, for you to then click it, for you to then delete it once you have read it. All I really want to do is look at it. It seems a very long winded way of looking at an attachment. Is there a way of changing the settings or is this just the way it goes.

Just got an SSD recently and it's extremely fast for big files (reads in the 240mB/sec range and an obvious improvement running the machine). But I also do work that uses a huge number of very small files, and I was surprised to find that the read performance is so much lower in that case. The 4k benchmark was actually slower than my old hard drive (about 40mB/sec), and loading up a project is also a little slower off of SSD versus HD. The files I'm loading are typically in the 60k range which should be better performance than 4k (and I would think better than HD, but that's not what I'm seeing on my machine). Looking at some SSD benchmarks online (on PC), 64k is still down from the max speed but not much, about 180.

When the screen on my MBA is closed down the rubber edge on the bezel around the screen does fit tightly on the left side, but on the entire right side, there is as small gap between the rubber edge and the base of the MBA. At the rear right the distance between the bezel and the base of the MBA is one milimeter and since the rubber edge takes up less than half of that distance, I'd say the gap is at least half a milimeter. Does your screen fit tightly all the way around or is a small gap normal? I'd think the rubber edge not only avoid metal against metal, but it will also prevent dust or dirt from entering the screen / keyboard / touchpad area when transporting the MBA.
