I'm considering purchasing the new 11.6" MBA with the 128GB SSD. I'm stuck whether I should get this, or wait for a new 13" MBP..
I am a writer so the computers main purpose would be for my writing and it's biggest positive is that it's small and extremely portable.
I am wondering however, will this MBA I'm looking at be able to run OSX Lion when it becomes available?
Also, anyone who has the 11.6" air if you could perhaps share your experience so far with it that would be excellent.
I'm trying to increase the font size of my mac, but I can't find it anywhere. I should be really simple to do so I'm probably missing something. On windows you just right click the desktop > appearance and bang. How can I do it on the mac? Oh and I don't want to increase the font of safari or finder, i already know how to do that, what I'm looking for is a way to make all fonts bigger (including menus)... just like you do on windows, make all fonts 1.2 times bigger.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am quite new to Macintosh and struggle with the very small fonts in Leopard.
I use a mbp 15" with the native resolution and a second monitor.
I adjusted the font size in the preferences to a bigger font.With the finder and some software I am very sadisfied now.But there are still problems here and there.
When I use quick look in mail.app the font size is so tiny (small excel files), that even with the lupe function the fonts can not be read properly.
The same happens in other software, as the standard smallest font, used by leopard is just to small.
Is there any proper way, to adjust this globally?
I'm having issues on my Safari version 5.1.2 - the font sizes on many pages are very small, and I have no idea why as other websites will look fine.
Here's a screenshot showing an example of google: [URL]
I'm on Mac OS 10.6.8
It's been driving me mad for a while now so I've been using Chrome instead, but I miss Safari!
I have a Mini that I am going to be using as an HTPC. I would also like to use it just to surf and check E's and general stuff like that. My question is that if I am sitting 6-8 ft. away from a 46" TV will the font be viewable or will it be to small (or fuzzy) to be a practical surfing set up. Anyone have any experience with this type of set-up? TW - the TV I am looking at getting is a Samsung Touch of Color LCD.

I'm using the newest IMac. And the problem is every time I put data using number (iwork) for accounting, the font is very very little almost unable to see by normal. I must pinching my eyes a little bit to see it clearly. Should I change something in setting and how? and this is happen when using safari too. From the first time I bought it, I never change the setting except to change username and password to login in. So I let it all in default version. I'm using IMac 27-inch, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 processor 3.1GHz intel core i5. Nothing changed since I bought it till now. It's very annoyed and difficult for me to input, edited, even read it as report.

Only need something to print. No scanning, faxing or other functions! Hoping we can get Canon that is compatible with the inkjet 40 and 41 cartridges as we already have a printer that uses those.

When I open pages it always uses helvetica as the default font.Can i set it to a different one like times new roman as a default.I mean you can tell it to start up by default to a specific page style, why not a specific font also?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecall, but can't locate it now, a freeware utility that converted PC fonts so that they were compatible with the Mac OS. This goes back a few years to earlier operating systems, both PC and Mac. I just downloaded 4 PC fonts I'd like to add to my current collection. Now running OS 10.6.3.

my Mac's start up is fine, until I get the the window with the bar that says "OS X starting up". This is the *really* slow bit. I am grateful for the fact that my old Power Mac is yet still faster at starting than my PC, but it is a whole lot slower than it should be. When I say "should be", all the Macs at school, or at the apple shop barely show the start up bar window. Ok, granted that they are a great deal newer and faster, but after a clean install of OS X on my machine, that bar was there for a maximum of 5 seconds. Now it usually takes 20-30 seconds.
Right, on to the things I have already tried:
* Cleaning out login items
* Turning off auto login
* Checking all my fonts
* Disabling the unused fonts
* Cleaning cache files and restarting twice
* Unplugging all of my hardware, bar the monitor
Even after trying everything on this list, plus a few hundred restarts, it is still booting up slowly. Does anybody have anymore ideas? Also, if somebody could please let me know where the log for system start up is stored, I will look through it and post it. Also, I should note that I am running OS X 10.4.11 'Tiger'.
I have a 2007 white C2D 2.16 MacBook. Over the last couple of days it has been getting extremely hot, too hot to put on my lap or even touch sometimes. I have iStat pro but have never paid any attention to the temps before so I can't tell how much it has actually risen. Also my power adapter doesn't light up properly. It will go the right colour for a bit and then just go a really faint green that I can just make out if the room light is off. If I unplug it and then plug it back in it comes back on, but only for a few minutes or so. The computer still charges tho. I am out of Apple Care so I don't really know what to do.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new iMac last night. I'm trying to learn how to use it. I played a video and I could barely hear any sound. I increased the volume to maximum on the keyboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't really know what is wrong, it's a fresh installation and it's just extremely laggy, liquify is slow as heck, drawing and doing anything is just choppy or buggy. Heck, my MB is more than decent for PS, so I don't know what is going on!
CS4 ran fine with no lag, and CS3 on my old p4 with 512mb ram runs smooth as silk with no lag, even when I use liquify, and even then it's only allowed to use 170mb of it.
I know this is a well known problem and I am not the only one, but I just wanted to know what exactly is the problem if anybody has managed to fix it, and a lot of the menu's and window structures are a bit off/messed up as well, it seems to me that a lot of unneeded yet subtle changes were made, and it's annoying as well.
If my macbook air gets extremely hot and shuts down means that i need to take it back to the apple store?

I was using my Macbook as usual last night, when some of the programs froze and the laptop started to get extremely hot. I tried to quit out of them but they were unresponsive, and unsure of what to do about it closed the lid and let it sleep and cool off. This morning I have tried to close the programs again with no success, so I hit the power button to restart the laptop. Now it doesn't boot, a folder appears on a gray background with a question mark in it. It wont boot to windows either, just sits on a gray screen. Can anyone help? What do I do? I'm not brilliant with computers, but I don't think I had done anything to crash the laptop. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard earlier on though, and not had any issues until then.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHere's what iStat has to say about my Mid-2007 White MacBook! All I have open is TextEdit, iCal, Preview, Safari, and Firefox. I've been noticing that my computer gets especially hot when I'm using Firefox. Should I worry about it disintegrating from the insides or are these levels of temperature perfectly normal? It's really difficult for me to keep it on my lap if I'm using it for longer than 15 minutes because the bottom of the case gets insanely hot. It's also quite discolored around the edges (sort of a greenish blue) and around where the exhaust is and it's cracked around the edges and where the hinges are around the screen.
View 24 Replies View RelatedSo i just got my macbook air today, and im loving it. The only problem is that the internet on this thing is SLOW. I have pretty decent internet at home, both my pc and macbook pro (2007) is fine. But on the MBA, a normal website takes minutes before being completely loaded. I just tested all my computers on speedtest.net, and my mbp was able to get 11.86download and 0.84upload, while my MBA get 0.45download and 0.15upload Is anyone else getting this problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got an older 12" Powerbook off of eBay. The seller said that the display was damaged from a spill. When I received it, it powered on fine but I noticed that I could still see everything on the screen, just had to look real close or open things up against a white background. I assumed that it needed a new inverter board. I got a working one but when I installed it, it didn't solve my problem. So I pulled a working screen (display, lcd, inverter, etc.) off of another 12" Powerbook and installed it. The screen is still dim! Does anyone know what else I can do to solve my problem?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just did a clean install of the mac and I'm noticing it is extremely slow at copying files back from an External HDD. It is on USB 2.0 connection, and still going maybe 10MB/minute. This is the speed I'd expect from a 1.0 connection. I've checked the wires, everything is connected. I thought maybe I'd speed it up by using an External DVD drive to copy the 20GB music library back from the DVDs rather than the external -- but the external DVD drive showed the same slow speed. The drive didn't even seem to spin up to read faster (like it normally would, it reads/writes quicker than the slot drive on the imac).
It just ran as slow as possible, with the same slow transfer rate. I've been going for a couple hours or more now, and only have 4GB of 16 copied over. I'm guessing there could be a reason for this that I'm missing. It's a fresh install, all updates installed on this Tiger 10.4.11 OS X. External is formatted HFS+ and the iTunes library does not contain any single file over 4 GB, or even close to 1GB. (just music/library files). There has been no problem with the media before.
I just dropped in a WD Scorpio 7200 320GB drive in my mid-2009 mbp. I successfully cloned my previous drive. It took forever to boot the first time and every subsequent time. It takes hours to install the os fresh after wiping it. Not at all how I expected the swap to go. What do you all think? Swap it out for another because this one is a bad egg?
I have done a guid partition and it is formatted in mac os x extended and journaled.
When i boot from my old drive, now in a usb enclosure, everything is fine. However when I access the new internal drive it hangs and just doesn't play well with it at all.
