I've lost my Admin. Password.
Trying to reset and reboot from the Install disk.
I hold down the C key while restarting and I get the apple screen but then the icon turns to a icon, don't know the name of it, like the "no smoking" sign sans the cigarette.
Does this mean that the disk is damaged? Is there some other way to retrieve my Admin password?
the only macs i have used are in macstores, i just got from a friend a White Macbook dunno what generation nor proc it has, it had the Seagate 120gb HD damaged so i just changed it for a used but working Western Digital 120gb one (it had vista installed and i was surprised it even started).
All i have is the Macbook and the charger, I have no Install disk, nothing.
I live in venezuela and i went to a mac retail store and they are charging me almost what it costs a new macbook to install the OS and they wont give me or sell me a install disk. What can i do?
I need to make a bootup drive that has 10.7.2 on it on my iMac. I do not have -- however -- a Lion install disk...and I know I can't go backwards with the 10.7.3 that's running on it. I'm totally fine making a new bootable partition...butÂ
How do I start from scratch with 10.7.0...and upgrade only to 10.7.2....with no disks?Â

By accident I inserted the Installation disk for the Mac OS X software even though it is already installed into my laptop. I tried ejecting the disk but the eject button would not do anything. I also attempted to hold down the track button while restarting my computer which did eject the disk but resulted in a bunch of small symbols flashing in the middle of my screen so I inserted the disk again. I really don't want to risk losing any of my files by re-installing the Mac OS software so I don't know how to quit the installation process.

I am thinking about extracting the mail installer from the snow leopard install disk and giving it a go. My company is upgrading to exchange 2007 servers and I want to get used to using mail to sync with them. I haven't really messed with it much yet though, I have barely even played with snow leopard so far.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2-yr old MBP 3,1 (the first Santa Rosa line) which has recently hit a slew of problems (bad fan, new display, new hdd, new logic board) over the last 3 months. I thought all was fixed then yesterday it suddenly dies, starts kernel panicking on boot, and I can't even boot from an installer disk. I took it in to the Genius Bar today and the guy puts a stick of their RAM in and it seems to work +/- ok. He won't do any more until I put the original RAM back in (upgraded to 4 gigs a year ago). I take the laptop home, and it magically starts working. I grab a couple backups and it starts kernel panicking again so I grab my original RAM and put it in. Now it's still kernel panicking and I'm effectively completely locked out of my MacBook Pro (the RAM worked fine in my wife's 3-year-old MacBook which takes memory of the same specs).

I have an external drive hooked up to an eMac. The plan is to install 10.5 on the drive, and then put the drive into a G4 powerbook. I booted the eMac from the 10.5 retail install disk, partitioned the external drive into 1 partition, with the 'Apple Partition Map' option selected in the options. But when I go to try to install onto the disk, it has a red X and says that the computer can not boot off of the device so it refuses to install.Â
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having problems booting my 700 mhz G4 Flat Panel Mac after connecting to my new Mac via Firewire to transfer a disk image of OS 10.4 I made from the DVD supplied with my new Mac. I was driven to trying this solution to upgrading my old Mac (from 10.2 to 10.4) after:
1) not being able to purchase a retail copy from Apple
2) not having a DVD drive on the old machine anyway, so connecting an external DVD drive and trying to load the OS software from the DVD install disks that came with my new Mac (old Mac saw the drive, tried to open the file but didn't know how)
So I learned about making a disk image of the DVD, which I did, then learned about connecting the 2 machines via firewire and starting up the old machine as a target disk. This all seemed to be working fine. The target disk image showed up on the new machine, I was able to drag the OS disk image to it and it appeared to copy the contents to the old machine. When I unplugged the Firewire and restarted the old machine it starting booting normally then just stopped, with a "You must restart your computer" message popping up on the screen. I have tried to restart the old machine several times with the same results and have unplugged the power then tried it again as well. Being far less than an expert at this I realize there are several ways this could have gone wrong, which is why included all the info. above - just wasn't sure which actions were relevant to helping figure out what to do next to get my old machine to boot, which is my most immediate problem. Dealing with the OS upgrade issue is also a concern.

why I have to check & repair disk permissions every time I have to restart my MacBook Pro. When I do the check I get various messages eg 'Library should be '0', is '80'. And other variations for Library.

I ran a disk check on my MacBook Pro which told me to run disk repair. Since this was my boot HD, I took out my Installation DVD, put it into the running system and started the installation file then selected that I wanted to reboot and start utilities. The system then rebooted, the "chime" came, and then, silence, gray screen with apple logo, nothing is happening. What do I need to do, to get further and repair my hard disk?

In fact I'm getting a grey screen when I just try to restart. Have run Disk Utility (which always finds Permissions errors - even though it appears to make repairs. Also, after erasing my hard disk and recovering my user data from Time Capsule). When I restart I don't get beyond a grey screen (with moving cursor). I can't install the update as obviously I need to restart in order to start the install process.

After many freezes I ran disk utility and I get:

So I use my wife's Imac startup disk to boot it in order to repair but I get the dreadfull death screen (I know how to press the C) I'm thinking maybe it's because her disk if for her Intel proc so I go and buy a copy of disk warrior 4, and same problem.
Does anyone know how to restart a MacBook Pro that is so low on disk space that it won't boot up?
Not sure of operating system as I can't check it Snow Leopard

Should I be concerned about this, and has this happened to anybody else?
I have a DP 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 which is giving me problems. It is on all the time (server). If I try and restart it switches off but will not restar. Also, if it crashes (only happens once every few months) then it will not automatically restart. I have replaced the internal battery but this has not helped. I have also reset the PMU. Any ideas what may be going on here?

I have just shipped my Mac Mini to its new home and I've had reports that the panic error is appearing on boot up: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart Button." This screen appears on the blue window just after the grey apple screen has disappeared and does not get as far as the desktop at the same point each time. We have tried to reinstall mac OS from the original install disk but holding the "C" Key or the "Option" Key down on restart doesn't boot from disc. Is there a way you can view the Kernel Panic log before you boot into Mac OS so we can try and pin point the source of this problem. I'm wondering if this could have been the result of the shipping that has caused some hardware to come loose.

I just did a clean reinstall on my mac and it needed to install some files and it is installing and it has been sitting on running itunes installer script for about an hour and doesnt seem to be doing much. Is this normal? I don't want to reset the computer in case something messes up

View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving trouble with my iMac and the installer. I'm running up to date Lion 10.7.3. I first noticed this when I got an adobe flash update. Once I press the install button after the file has downloaded I get the usual computer admin box asking for my password. I fill this in and press OK and the admin box disappears but no installation happens. Its the same with any dmg file I download from the net but apps from the appstore download straight into launchpad fine. Its not that the password is wrong as when I do type an incorrect password the admin box jiggles in the usual apple incorrect fashion and stays on the screen. Â

Trying to install a .pkg from the command line in single user mode. I'm using the command "installer -pkg Installer.pkg -target / The .pkg is on a mounted USB drive. / is also mounted. When I run the command, the screen scrolls to a new blank line and stays there but nothing happens. The light on my USB indicates no data transfer is happening. I get no output, even if I add -verbose to the command.
