MacBook Pro :: Way To Get Installer From Cd To My System
Dec 19, 2009My MBP will not read my cd. I was wondering if there is any way to get the installer from the cd to my laptop without having to actually use my cd?

View 4 RepliesSounds like people are enjoying Snow Leopard. I would love to join them, but the installer can't see my system drive! Disk Utility doesn't see it either. The only possible issue is that my system drive is an SSD, but it would be impressive if Apple managed to make their OS incompatible with a drive with a perfectly standard interface. Anybody else managed to get Snow Leopard installed on an SSD, whether one that came with their system or one they installed themselves?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe disk on one of our iMacs has failed, so I am seeking to replace it with a new drive and then restore from the current Time Machine backups stored on our Time Capsule. My plan was to attach the replacement drive to the iMac via a USB enclosure, format it, and recover the volume and once that is complete, replace the disk. The problem however is that the OS X installer's Restore System From Backups option does not display the correct backup volume. The Select A Backup Source displays only "Data" on network "tc" under the list of backup volumes.
Clicking on Connect to Remote DIsk brings up the authentication dialog, and I enter the correct credentials, but the volume list does not change, and the Continue button remains grayed-out. The syslog data from the Time Capsule confirms successful afp connections, and df confirms that the Data volume is being mounted from the TC. We have three Macs running 10.6.8, all writing their Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule running 7.6.1. Each computer has its own Time Capsule login ID, and all Time Machine backups have been working properly (new backups are being created and can recover files).
Using the Finder to examine the volumes on the Time Capsule, I can see that each computer has an empty Data volume and another volume with the computer's name which contains the sparse bundle that Time Machine is writing to. It looks like the issue is that the Installer is only looking for the Data volume and not showing the other volumes. Is there a super secret keyboard sequence I need to issue to get it to show the other volumes?

I'm trying to reinstall my HP Photosmart D110 printer for like the 11th time this week. I bought the printer about 1.5 years ago, with my Macbook Pro. Everything worked fine at first -- through my last year of college, several moves, etc. Now, when I try to use my printer (wirelessly or hard-wired) it simply won't work. I've gone through uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, with the installation CD and the downloaded installation software from hp.com/support --they're one in the same. Â
My Mac won't recognize the printer and at the end of the installation wizard, I get a message saying "If your device is not listed, it is not supported by this installer." I've called Applecare. The rep was very helpful, but unable to resolve my issue. I've called HP Tech Support, which was a less than pleasing customer service experience. They're not open 24-7 as they advertise and when I finally did get a rep, he was troubleshooting for a PC when I specifically noted that I have a Mac. Naturally, I was told I needed to be transferred to a different department, where no one answered the phone (even during "normal business hours.") Â

I got a used MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz 17" (Mid-2010 - MC024LL/A - MacBookPro6,1 - A1297) running Lion only.Â
I want to put Snow Leopard on one of the partitions, because I still need to use Rosetta from time to time. The computer didn't come with any installer disks... "no problem," I thought, because I own a Snow Leopard installer DVD (which says "Version 10.6" on it).Â
But it won't boot from that DVD.  The Apple logo stayed on the screen for seven minutes before I gave up.Â
Is that because this computer requires a later version of Snow Leopard?Â
What are my options for getting Snow Leopard onto this thing?Â
I have a 2-yr old MBP 3,1 (the first Santa Rosa line) which has recently hit a slew of problems (bad fan, new display, new hdd, new logic board) over the last 3 months. I thought all was fixed then yesterday it suddenly dies, starts kernel panicking on boot, and I can't even boot from an installer disk. I took it in to the Genius Bar today and the guy puts a stick of their RAM in and it seems to work +/- ok. He won't do any more until I put the original RAM back in (upgraded to 4 gigs a year ago). I take the laptop home, and it magically starts working. I grab a couple backups and it starts kernel panicking again so I grab my original RAM and put it in. Now it's still kernel panicking and I'm effectively completely locked out of my MacBook Pro (the RAM worked fine in my wife's 3-year-old MacBook which takes memory of the same specs).

I installed Skype a few weeks ago and every time I restart my mac (which I seldom do) the installer keeps reappearing. I can see the disk on my desktop and I'm told that: "Skype" is an application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?""Skype" is on the disk image "Skype_2.7.0.330.dmg"....
Of course I've tried to eject the installer (by right-clicking on the desktop and in finder) and then restarted my machine. I've also tried uninstalling Skype...

View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving trouble with my iMac and the installer. I'm running up to date Lion 10.7.3. I first noticed this when I got an adobe flash update. Once I press the install button after the file has downloaded I get the usual computer admin box asking for my password. I fill this in and press OK and the admin box disappears but no installation happens. Its the same with any dmg file I download from the net but apps from the appstore download straight into launchpad fine. Its not that the password is wrong as when I do type an incorrect password the admin box jiggles in the usual apple incorrect fashion and stays on the screen. Â

Trying to install a .pkg from the command line in single user mode. I'm using the command "installer -pkg Installer.pkg -target / The .pkg is on a mounted USB drive. / is also mounted. When I run the command, the screen scrolls to a new blank line and stays there but nothing happens. The light on my USB indicates no data transfer is happening. I get no output, even if I add -verbose to the command.

However, I can't find "Utilities" and "Disk Utility" in the installer (I am at the point where after you click agree to the agreement and where you choose your disk to install SL on)
I am working on some Macs and am going to be installing Microsoft Office 2008 on them, including 12.2.0 and 12.2.5 updates and Entourage Web Services Edition. I would like to somehow automate the install by combining the packages into one or something like that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook OS X that is about four and a half years old. One day, when I tried to open itunes, the itunes symbol came up on my dock, bounced a few times, and then disappeared. It won't open anymore. The same thing has now happened with the installer program. When I download anything and click on it to install it, the installer icon comes up on the dock, bounces a few times, and then disappears.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently, running Snow Leopard, the one made to install .pkg file aka installer.app stopped working. I click on a package file to install, the installer app opens, but then it just sits there. It's definitely open and running, but it's not running installer I clicked on to run.
EDIT: I also tried taking the Installer Application from another mac and replacing the one on my computer with that one, but the problem still persists.
I am trying to do a erase and install with 10.3 when I put the cd in and reboot while holding C key the mac installer does not come up on the top ? it just hangs at a grey screen. and will eventually just log back into the already installed os. I have tried to connect it firewire and can erase the hd on it but if i do this will simply putting the install cd upon boot run it like it should ? Or would I still have the installer problem .

Exactly the same happened and I had to force quit again. It appears that i am now unable to install any new apps?

I understand the lion installer evaporates after use. I have three macs and would rather not endure the 2+ hours to download lion for each. As soon as the App Store finished downloading it, it went straight into the install sequence. I've stopped at the software license page for fear that it might proceed after that and I won't be able to stop it prior to the installer disappearing.

I need to make a bootup drive that has 10.7.2 on it on my iMac. I do not have -- however -- a Lion install disk...and I know I can't go backwards with the 10.7.3 that's running on it. I'm totally fine making a new bootable partition...butÂ
How do I start from scratch with 10.7.0...and upgrade only to 10.7.2....with no disks?Â

I can no longer install software or access preferences that require me to type in my name and password. Everything was working fine until today. My password still works during startup, but my screensaver does not accept the password.
Yesterday I created a user using dscl in the terminal. I am assuming my troubles are related to that.

A few days ago, I tried to install a minor update for NeoOffice (mac native OpenOffice) and the installer crashed. I figured no big deal, it's not an important update anyway. Today I tried to install the new Google Voice and Video program (similar to Skype) and the installer crashed again. I figured I had better to a software update because maybe I have some bad version of something. No luck, software update crashes too. I am running Leopard 10.5.8 Here's the reports from the three attempts.
