Software :: Microsoft Applications Crashing When Saving
May 27, 2008
Not to long ago I was using the Microsoft Word application on my computer to edit some cover letters I had written when I had come to a problem: It seems that when I go to "Save" or "Save as"under the file menu the program unexpectedly quits, losing al my hard work. This has also occured with my micrisoft powerpoint and appleworks. I have been using all three of these applications for a while now and have never have had this problem. Is there a way to fix this?

I'm having an issue with Microsoft Word 2011 Beta 6. No matter what I save, it out puts this same pink image file, that appears to repackaged as a open xml word document. A little digging with this file tells me that it contains active code, and it's origins are from the save and savex command line tools (now part of 2011 to support vb macros) Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know of a possible solution? I'm being accused of intentionally corrupting files at my high school....

Out of nowhere, Microsoft Word will no longer open. Microsoft Error Reporting pops up and says: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" every time I try to open it.
I clicked on "More Information" and this endless list popped up

I just installed Microsoft Office 2008 and have had nothing but issues since the installation.
Entourage is a nightmare. I have three different work emails that I use through it and I can barely open emails now. Especially emails with html or pictures attached. Today it's crashing on an email that has nothing attached. Here is the log for that...

Just recently all of my Microsoft Office applications have quit working - they crash as soon as they load. (Sneaky lil buggers act like they are going to work and wait 5 secs after loading a blank template and make me a lil hopeful before they close down!) I have not added any RAM or made any significant changes or updates. I am on a MacBook Pro, OS X version 10.5.8, 2 GB 667 MHz, 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I am getting the following crash report:
Process: Microsoft Word [1895]
Path: /Applications/Microsoft Office X/Microsoft Word
Identifier: com.microsoft.Word
Version: 10.0.0 (10.0.0)
Code Type: PPC (Translated)
Parent Process: launchd [114]

The setup: VirtualBox (latest), Snow Leopard and Windows XP.
The situation: I installed VirtualBox, all seems fine. I then installed Windows XP. All seemed fine. I installed Gust Additions. Then I installed Safari. Then I went and downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. When it attempted to install, it would fail, and asks me to restart and try again. I went ahead and restarted. When the virtual machine restarted, it'd get all screwed up, squashed video and frozen. Then I'd get a dialog saying that the virtual machine disk image has a problem or some such, and claims that a likely cause is a problem with the harddrive. After I clicked OK, it beachball'd. I force-quit the program.

Today, after updating to Snow Leopard, I have been noticing that when I have been working on a word document (Office 2008), when I quick (command + q), it will go to close and then suddenly crash asking me if I want to send a crash report and relaunch. Has anyone else been having this happen to them? It has happened a few times today to me. it is always when I am quitting with a document open (but saved).

Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

Recently, in the middle of working with applications in iPhoto09 they simply crash. I get a message stating no harm was done but it's getting annoying as it's happening more often than not. I am new to mac, have had it now for maybe two weeks, but wouldnt expect apps to crash this often. Any thoughts?

I'm on a new MacBook Pro at work - came with OS X.4 and an upgrade install disc to Leopard... Safari 3 will NOT save any of my passwords. I continually choose "yes" every time I visit the sites that I want to use this feature for (i.e. project management panel at work), but no luck. Well, not EXACTLY true, on a (very) RARE occasion - Safari will save a username, but still NOT the accompanying password. I've found 2 threads on this same issue on Apple's Support Knowledgebase, there's still no solution from them on this: [URL]
Is anyone else out there having this issue? If so, I'm urging you to post on the thread so Apple will resolve this. I'm in the web design biz, so I am frequenty visiting sites that require login credentials. I'd switch to another browser, but, well - no I won't. I love Safari too much. Hey Apple - can I get a fix ova' here?

I had a trial for MobileMe for a while, and recently I stopped the trial as it was coming to its end. Once it was cancelled, I started to notice that cookies weren't saving anymore within Safari, and I've tried everything to re-enable them. It's crap because every-time I go to a site (such as these forums) I've gotta enter my login info. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I think it's still looking for the cloud bookmarks, and yes, I have gone into the system prefs and removed my mobileme info, and I've also made sure that in the Safari prefs that the option "sync bookmarks with mobileme" is also unchecked, yet my cookies aren't saving or anything. Not sure if it's related to mobile me though.

In windows let's say I have a folder called "A". Let's say I am working on a project and I want to save it in that folder on my desktop. In windows you click "save as" then drill down to find the folder you want to save the file in. On my Mac it gives me the option for "desktop" but how do you pick a folder on the desktop to save a file in?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro (and loving it) with iWork 09 pre-installed. I really like using numbers compared to office. However, I have just started working in a group where all the other members use Windows with Office 2007. I have been able to save my numbers (and pages) documents as the office equivalent. My problem lies when I am working on a document in numbers that is the office format. I like to continuously save my progress but whenever i press save, I have to save it as a whole new document or replace the existing one. When I used to work in office 2007 I used to just press save every now and then and it would save my changes. Am I doing something wrong or is it because I am working on an excel spreadsheet in numbers (word document in pages)?

I have all my music on my external Hard Drive and I direct iTunes to that.Consequently I can only listen to music when the external HD is on, which is fine. So here's my Question. If/When I drop new music into iTunes while the external HD on, how can I be sure it's copying to the external HD? I just dropped some new music into iTunes, and then when into the iTunes folder in the external HD, and it doesn't seem to be there. Do I have to set something up in iTunes Preferences? (cause I can't seem to find it!)
Using:
iTunes 8.1.1
OS 10.5.6

I've seen a similar request posted a couple times, but have had no luck on those threads finding the solution to my problem. I would like to write an AppleScript that would save an attachment (a .txt file) from Mail to my desktop. (Then in turn, I will make a rule in Mail that will run this script when certain conditions are met in the email). I'm sure it's probably very simple, but I have been playing around with the script editor for a few hours now and still can't figure it out. Needless to say, I am new to scripting.

Does anyone know of a shortcut for saving image in a web browser such as Firefox, Safari, or Opera?
I'm talking about saving multiple (but not all) pictures on a web page without having to Control-Click and select "Save Image As" for every picture.
Is there no such thing?

1 - I have a gmail account that I'm using MacMail for. I have 2 other email addresses that were already being forwarded to gmail. On gmail web browser, I had the setting such that if someone emailed to my Email #2, then when I reply, it would automatically go out from Email #2 (even if Email #1 is the gmail address). Is there a way to do this on the MacMail as well?? right now, all my outgoing messages are being sent from my gmail address
2 - When I am writing an email, it seems to save my email drafts along the way. So I have like 5 drafts (all from different stages) in addition to the final message that I send off. On MacMail, the incomplete drafts all get sent to trash. On gmail web browser, however, all 5 drafts show up as part of the email "thread"! The incomplete versions don't get sent to the recepient, right? Is there a way to turn this off?
