Software :: Macbook Pro Airport Not Working Right?
Dec 12, 2008
I've had my MacBook Pro for almost a year now and love it. However, a few weeks ago, for reasons still not known, my Macbook has stopped automatically connecting to the internet each time I open it. I've reviewed all the settings and cannot find anything that I've done (not on purpose, anyway) that would have altered the settings. Now, in order to connect to the internet after my computer has been asleep, I must open the network preferences, choose the network I want to connect to and then wait for the system to scan the network before showing that I am now connected. What is up with that? Any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I have neglected to do?

I have been connecting wirelessly to the same router for about 4 months now, using DHCP, and having the settings on the automatic connection. I left the computer on, but closed, so sleeping, for about two days. When i opened it, the battery did not yet run out but the internet has not connected since.
I have full connection in internet connect to my network. Status says connected. If I have the IPv4 using DHCP, the status says that i am connected but my computer have a self-assigned IP adress. When I put in the IP manually, the Network setting give me a green light on airport and says that I am connected to the network thru airport. Needless to say, no browsers (Firefox, Safari, Netscape, or Internet Explorer) have been able to connect to the internet.
I have tried running Disk Utility for any errors, but there have been no changes.

Yesterday my macbook's wifi started getting really slow to the point where it takes 10 minutes to load a webpage. I reseted my router and everything but it was still slow. Then I noticed that my iMac and Ipod touch had full internet speed and everything. What happened? I didn't do anything different from my normal routine at all.
I was running on old firmware for my macbook and decided to attach an ethernet cable to get the latest and greatest but it didn't fix the problem.

My friend's white Macbook is having some problems connecting to the internet at a specific location.
My macbook and other laptops connect to the internet without any problem, but she has been having problems.
Airport connects to the network and even assigns an IP address properly, but the safari or firefox doesn't open any websites.
I tried manually assigning IP address but didn't work either. I am not very good at solving problems with Macs so any help is welcome. sometimes it is a bit difficult to assign the IP address, but it does end up assigning one.

yesterday it was fine on leopard.

so i just got a new airport extreme to replace my current airport (the older model) and for whatever reason i can not get the WAN port to pick up my IP from my cable modem - i plug it into the old model and boom it works no problem - done a million power cycles - isp resent the signal too to reset it for new hardware - no go
the interesting part is that if i take the modem --> old router and then use the new airport to extend the network via ethernet it works perfectly just not if i go from the modem directly to the new router

My airport doesn't seem to be working. It's completely connected--I even ran through the diagnostics and it said nothing can be done for it--but it won't pull up a Safari page, let me log into AIM, or check my Mail. It works fine when I plug an ethernet into it, and I've tried restarting my computer multiple times, and I reset the DHCP, too, and nothing.

Unfortuntely my wireless network, aka airport express just went on the blink while surfing. I contacted my ISP and nothing wrong their end, and in anycase i have the cable connected directly into my macbook.
The express is flashing amber and I have resetted both hard and factory with no joy. When i go into the airport utility, it seems to be the default settings which might be amiss:
"this apple wireless device has default settings. you should configure your apple wireless device to connect to the internet, secure the wireless network and a provide a password"
So, how do I go about reconfiguring the network, or in layman terms, getting the darn thing working again?

Right recently I took my airport card out of my emac to see if it was normal or extreme (it be extreme). I took the antenna off it then examined it then I put it back in the same way it said on apples website. It seemed simple enough .But no! It didn't work! now my emac does not even pick up the card, it said its not installed! Seriously I've tried everything! even forcing it in and even acupuncture (not really just thought it was funny) right so my airport cards not working.

I can't get my Airport Extreme to work w/ any of my PCs (via wireless). I have an Extreme N w/ gigabit and using WPA/WPA2 security. Latest firmware. My MBP works perfectly fine, so does my iPod Touch and even my printer which connects via WiFi also (hp Photosmart D7460).
However none of my PCs can connect, I already tried w/ 2 different Dell laptops a Toshiba laptop and a desktop. All are running XP and have all the updates etc. All connect and work fine to my Linksys WRT54G.

I have shared my internet connection to my PC via ethernet many times (so my PC get the internet connection from a ethernet cable plugged into my MacBook which shares it's connection via AirPort).
Now suddenly it doesn't work, when I plug in the ethernet cable to my MacBook the internet connection dies whenever the ethernet connection starts working... I'm still connected to the wireless network, but can't use internet...
So the connection to internet dies whenever I try to share it to my PC from my Mac... Anybody know how to fix this?

I just installed OS X 10.5.7 yesterday and Airport wireless will not start on boot up or when I try to manually add the setup or run diagnostics from the network configuration. I tried to remove airport and reinstall the connection manually and it still fails. I checked the console log and marked it and when I tried to start airport again I received no error messages at all. The computer does register the mac address for the wireless card, but when I attempt to connect to something it just scans in diagnostics, but the network is not detected. I can connect to the wireless router with two other computers and I can see other networks in the area, but airport does not see any other networks.
I did check in system profile and the wireless card is detected along with the mac address and it says that airport is turned off.

I have a MacBook now running Leopard 10.5.5 and an Epson Stylus DX4400 printer. Since I installed Leopard I cannot print via the USB connection from my Airport Extreme. I can print only if the printer is connected directly to my MacBook. This used to work fine when my computer had Tiger. I have spent hours trying to fix this with a 2nd tier tech guy at Applecare, but without success. Epson refuse to help on the grounds that routers aren't supported, or something. The printer appears to be recognised by the Extreme but when I print, the job does not appear in the print box which just says "printer ready" .
I have had to previously UNINSTALL the latest firmware version for the Airport Extreme (7.3.2) because this firmware seemed to be causing previous problems - namely my MacBook not working with Airport at all, or at least only intermittently. Leopard was installed in attempt to solve this first problem - it didn't at first, but seems to be OK now. The printer issue arose only after Leopard was installed. When I add the printer when located at Airport Extreme via System Prefs Print and Fax, it appears to find and add it OK, and indeed the printer is there with 'Airport Extreme' as the location.
I would be so grateful for any suggestions. Both Applecare and Epson have run out of ideas.

I bought a Airport Express so I could stream my music through my big money home stereo system. According to the manual I could use the AirPort express to expand my pre-existing wireless network.I started working on this at 9Pm and finally figured it out by 4AM First I have the Belkin F5D7231-4 so this will work with this router & I've heard the F5D7230-4. Basically your Belkin needs to support "Wireless Bridge" or "WDS".
Configuring the Belkin:Set your DHCP Server Range to what ever you desire. I use 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.22. Save your Changes.Go to Wireless Bridge: Enable Wireless Bridging & Enable Only Specific Access Points to connect.. Input the mac address of your Air Port Express into the field and save your changes.Next configure your wireless security. You have to choose WPA "2". I repeat you have to choose WPA2. Setup your password and save your changes. For the Encryption Technique I use TKIP. I have not tried AES and can not verify it works.Save your changes and say man this is pretty easy so far.Configuring the AirPort Express to act as an expander:At this point its a good idea to take a pin and reset the AirPort Express. After it boots back up change your wireless networks and log on to it.Loadup the Airport Admin Utility. Now choose to configure your AirPort Express.
hange all the settings you see for Name / Contact / Location to your liking.Under Airport Network: Choose Join an Exisiting Wireless Network (Wireless Client)Find your Belkin under Wireless Network: It should be called what ever you named it.It will ask for your WPA2 Personal password to join the network so enter it twice. Now click on the internet tab at the top: Connect using: Wireless NetworkConfigure TCP/IP Choose to Configure Manually.Ip address you need to make it something outside of your Belkins DCHP Server Range. I used: 192.168.2.50 because my range stops at 22.
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router Addy: 192.168.2.1
DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
Now choose the Music Tab at the top and configure it to your liking.Give All your options a once over and then hit update. Wait for the AirPort Express to load up and enjoy the Green Light

I asked some questions about setting up a usb router type of set up and upon the advice of this board I went out last week and bought the Airport Extreme BS. I've plugged it in, installed the software on both PC and MBP and I can not, despite a week of buggering about, get the Airport Utility to acknowledge that the AEBS exists. Nor can I get the damned amber light to stop flashing. I've followed the instructions but I'm lost. Is the something I need to do that I'm overlooking?

I forgot my password after not needing it for quite some time. I tried to do a reset by pressing the button and then making a new password but I keep getting error messages after verifying the new passwords. The error message was something that airport could not be configured.

Current setup: I have the dual-band Basestation and an Airport Express to extend the range. I have a MBP and a Mac Mini(Mac Mini is connected to Airport Express due to range).
Everything works fine and then one day I can't connect to my Mac Mini from my MBP on the same wifi network. The Mini will show up in Finder, but when I click, it can't connect.

I got an old Power Mac G4 Quicksiver 2002 a little while back and I decided to upgrade it a little bit as a pet project. One of the things I did was add an Airport Card so I could get wifi. I read all about 802.11b and WPA2 and all that, and I can't say I understood it all, but what I think I DID get was this: The old airport card cannot connect to a WPA2 network. (right?) I looked at the settings for my router, and it said it was on "WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode." I thought it would work. When I went to connect, it said "WPA Network Needs a Password. I put in my password, and after trying to connect for a little while, it said "Connection timed out." Right now I am connected to the "guest" network, which needed no password. Just to test, I changed the encryption to just WPA, not mixed mode. It stopped my PC from getting wifi, and still didn't work on the Mac. I got it to work by putting NO password, but I really don't want that. Should I try to change it to WEP? I'm not really a tech type of person, especially not with wifi stuff, I'm kind of just stumbling around with Google...Â
The router is a Linksys E2500 router. AirPort Card Information:Wireless Card Type:AirPort Wireless Card Locale:USA Wireless Card Firmware Version:9.52 Current Wireless Network: {other network name} Wireless Channel:11 Is there any way to connect to the password protected network?

Last week, my airport connection suddenly stopped working (and I mean JUST as I was working on it, it started failing). It would connect to the network fine, but it could not communicate with the router through DHCP and even with a static IP, it could not transfer any network data. I put in my brother's working airport card, and it worked, so I ordered a refurbished airport card from ifixit.com. I put that in today, and it is showing the same symptoms of my old card. I don't have my brother's PowerBook to test his card again, so I don't know what to do.

I've had this computer for many years and it has been trouble free. Recently, however, it's been losing the wifi signal. It'll keep it for a while, but then I'll see it fluctuate and eventually die. I can't seem to bring it back to life. I have an iPhone, apple tv and a laptop that all seem to have no trouble pickng up the wifi signal. Would this be a software or hardware issue? Could my airport card be dying? If so, is it fixable?

I have a setup as in the diagram below. Internet Router connected to my Airport Express N which creates a N-class network. Then I have an Time Capsule in another room that extends this network. My iMac is connected to this Time Capsule using Ethernet (WiFi is turned off completely).
iTunes is 10.6.1 (7)
Airport Express and Time Capsule have the latest firmware (v7.6.1)
Internet, sharing and other functions are working fine, just Airplay from the iMac doesn't work anymore to the Airport Express. I've tried lots of solutions, and this just seems to be broken. I've submitted to Apple feedback as well explaining the situation and that this doesn't work. If I add/remove a password or enable/disable airplay on the Express, it does reflect in iTunes. It also shows that the Airplay is locked/unlocked (see image) and also shows it as a visible audio destination.
But when you activate it from iTunes, it doesn't ask for any password (if enabled), but it just displays the "connecting" dialog for about 1 minute and then closes the window without any error and just does nothing. It's like iTunes cannot communicate to the Airport Express, although at the same time I can connect to it's internal configuration (edit) and also connect to the internet, my router's config using a browser, etc. without any problems. Also, if I'm using my iPad and iPhone, I can easily use the Airport Express from those devices, but NOT from the iMac.

I have a Mac/Windows home network with two airport extreme base stations. One is connected to my dsl modem. The other is used wirelessly to extend the network, and I have a Xerox Phaser 5500 connected to one of its lan ports. Until recently, all computers, connected wirelessly could share the internet connection and print to the Phaser. Due to a power failure, I had to reset both the Airport base stations. I can still connect to the internet, however I can not print from any of the computers.

I've had my macbook pro for 4 years now with out any problems. However, a few weeks ago my airport stopped connecting for no reason. I have tried to reconnect through the network settings but it still won't work. However, if I am in the same room as my router then the airport will connect wirelessly to the internet. But as soon as I leave the room my internet signal will go out. I know its not a problem with my router because all the other computers in my house can recieve signal anywhere in the house.

Just bought a new Airport Time Capsule 3TB for backup purposes and to use as the main router in my home (model number A1470 the latest tall one). I was originally using an AirPort Extreme (model number 1408 approx 6" square and 1' tall) for my main router. Â
I got the TC setup and putting out good wifi signal, but would like to take my Extreme and extend it off the TC to boost signal in other parts of my house, but having some difficulty. I searched the forums and found setup instructions to do this, but I get a message saying, "unexpected error. Try again." Well, tried again and still no luck.Â

I'm yet to figure out a pattern, but my Macbook Pro's keyboard will just stop working for several minutes at a time at random points in time...Even if I hit caps or num lock, they don't turn green. Sometimes it'll just happen once every few hours, but I was in class the other day and it would work for a minute, then not work for a few, than work for another minute, etc.

I recently spilled a protein shake over my mb pro. It spilled on the right side, but I quickly cleaned it with a wet tissue and dried it up. The problem, now, is that the illuminated keyboard isn't working..only a few random keys are working and the rest aren't..
What should I do? I have a 1 year warranty left, but I'm not sure it'll be covered.

I've noticed that occasionally my IR sensor stops working, and no longer responds to changing the volume, skipping the track in iTunes, etc. It can be resolved by going into Security prefs, disabling and re-enabling the IR sensor. This is annoying, however, and I'm wondering if it's a known issue that might be fixed.
I noticed that when you disable and re-enable the IR sensor, the last few remote button pushes you made while it was broken come through in a burst.
