View 4 RepliesI tried the following to make a bootable floppy image and it would not even read in a virtual machine. I have Oracle Virtualbox. I am using a Mac Mini 2011 with 4GB of RAM. I have tried making a blank floppy and copying to it by dragging and using the Terminal, but neither works. Here are the cmds I used:Â
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1024 count=1440>floppy.imgÂ
Then I mounted and erased the image file in Disk Utility.Â
cp -Rpv /Volumes/Untitled/ /Volumes/UNTITLED 1/Â
The above command copied all the files from the floppy to the image but the image wouldn't read on the virtual machine.Â

I have a failed WD My Book Pro II and I'm looking to replace this enclosure with the Mercury Elite-AL Pro QX2 4-bay Hardware RAID enclosure. If I move my two SATA drives (currently configured as a Raid-0) from the My Book to the QX2, will I be able to access my data? And would it be possible to expand this existing Raid-0 when I insert a third drive? And will I be able to convert the raid-0 to raid-5 as well?

View 7 Replies View RelatedThere seems to be a pattern with major updates from Apple and the ability of the servers providing the content - be it iTunes or iOS or Mac OS updates - I have been unable to download successfully the larger updates but smaller (22MB for AirPort Utility) work fine. The annoying thing is that in almost all cases the error doesn't occur until after the download is complete - meaning it takes up all the time and bandwidth etc with no result and you have to start all over again.
This has happened to enough people and with enough different software releases that I posit that it is not the result of any particular configuration of networking and or hardware and or firmware and or OS version etc - but that the it is a systemic issue on the provider side of things.
Perhaps they (Apple's content providers) should stagger access or something - by time zone - or Apple should release updates over the course of a week - not all on the same day. I would much rather get a message that the server is busy try agian later - or have one update a day - and have it work on the first try - that to waste time retrying the same downloads over and over again.

I would like to transfer my iTunes library to my phone to use as a secondary/backup iPod. The problem is that I have a lot of music, and iTunes organizes the music by putting music in separate folders via artist, and then more separate folders by album. This means there is no easy way to transfer all of my music over. I'd have to manually click on every folder, and copy songs one by one, which would take a super long time.
Is there a way to like select my iTunes Music folder and be able to get all of my music?
I have some .rar files that I need extracting but I don't have a clue as to what I can use. back in my PC days I use to use WinRAR but that was then and here I am now with my beloved Mac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I used a PC there was the WIN RAR program where you could see every file inside a RAR archive, and thus choose which files you wanted to extract. I have RAR Expander and can expand an entire directory just fine, but I would like a little control to be able to choose which files to extract. Is there anything that will let me do this on the Mac?

I just created a similar script that uses "imguru" to upload images to [URL] which works great, so i'm thinking that it's must be the line with "unzip" that creates a problem.Â

So two months ago my mac's internal hard disk had a problem, it was "ejecting" itself by itself. It was frozen. Problem: I was gonna do a backup the day it happened, so I didn't have a back up. I went to a centre of data recuperation. They managed to get a lot out of the internal hard disk and put it in a new external hard drive. Apple then replaced my SSD, and I restored (from the external hard drive) what had been recuperated back on my computer with a new SSD. Now I realise that a lot of things are missing - especially pictures- which is quite annoying. I do have a very old back up that I did with Time Machine on another external hard drive. My question is: how can I restore only the pictures from that back up? I can't go back on time machine because this is a new SSD, and I don't wanna restore everything from that back up as I have more data on my computer as it is now.

The problem is this: when I import image sequences, the frame rate is set 29.97 by default, but I need it to be 25 (they come from a video shot at 25fps). Changing the frame rate of every image sequence, one by one, is too time-consuming. How can I change it on all my sequences at once?Â
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm taking an opportunity that just came up to upgrade to a 15" i7 Macbook Pro and wanted to run something by the community here. I currently run Windows 7 under Parallels 5 only and would love to convert to a bootcamp so I can run Windows 7 under both Bootcamp and Parallels. I know from my research some say this is impossible.
But I just thought of something and thought maybe someone else tried this. Windows 7 has a backup/restore feature that can make a system disk image. So I was thinking of trying that. Uninstalling the Parallels tools then creating a disk image. Then making my Bootcamp partition and copying my disk image created earlier onto that partition.
At first, I tried to upgrade and the upgrade failed to the point of rendering the system useless. I then decided to reformat the drive using disk utility and try a clean install. I then got this error and I'm stuck and have no clue what to do now: "The installer can't extract files from the package for BaseSystem. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have never encountered anything like this before.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI've been clearing out my loft, and found my old Macintosh Plus, keyboad, mouse and software from my student days. If still powers up and works!Anyway, I also found a disk box of some 24 * 3.5" 800k floppies of my old work, dissertation, and things, and would really like to get these onto a current machine as well as Mac Project and MacWrite, MacPaint etc. to read them.I've an old 12" G4 Powerbook which I rebuilt with 10.4.11 so it runs Classic, but I now need someway of getting the files off the 3.5" floppies. The Mac+ has no ethernet only the old Appletalk. I tried my local Mac Store who wanted to sell me a nice new USB floppy drive which was PC compatible. Now I know the old SuperDrives could read these old 800Kb disks but will a modern drive read them as well? The Mac Expert in store didn't have a clue, and to be frank it didn't look like he was even born when these were around.any other suggestions on transferring these files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of pulling the data off of my collection of floppy disks. A lot of them are the really ancient 800K kind so I am using a Mac Classic II running System 7.0.1 to access them. The process is going well but occasionally I've run across a PC formatted floppy that the Mac won't read. It just says: This disk is not a Macintosh diskette. Do you want to Initialize it? So how do I give my Classic the ability to access these PC format diskettes?

Like, it recognizes there is a subtitle file there and I choose it, but they don't show up. I can't find any apps that let you convert from .sub to .srt (a more common format).
