I have some .rar files that I need extracting but I don't have a clue as to what I can use. back in my PC days I use to use WinRAR but that was then and here I am now with my beloved Mac.
View 14 Replieshow can you take a snippet of audio from a dvd (eg film) or from say a divx or xvid movie file on your hard drive.... and say save it as mp3 or wav file. As a whole, and as a user definded section of the movie file/dvd. can someone break down the basic options on how to do this? can built in mac apps do this? quicktime? VLC player? pro tools? toast? idvd or ilife etc for either pc or mac. Preferably mac as i use it more.

I have RAR Expander and can expand an entire directory just fine, but I would like a little control to be able to choose which files to extract. Is there anything that will let me do this on the Mac?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to transfer my iTunes library to my phone to use as a secondary/backup iPod. The problem is that I have a lot of music, and iTunes organizes the music by putting music in separate folders via artist, and then more separate folders by album. This means there is no easy way to transfer all of my music over. I'd have to manually click on every folder, and copy songs one by one, which would take a super long time.
Is there a way to like select my iTunes Music folder and be able to get all of my music?
I'm trying to create an Automator service for the Finder in Lion. It gives me an "error in shell script". I just created a similar script that uses "imguru" to upload images to [URL] which works great, so i'm thinking that it's must be the line with "unzip" that creates a problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo two months ago my mac's internal hard disk had a problem, it was "ejecting" itself by itself. It was frozen. Problem: I was gonna do a backup the day it happened, so I didn't have a back up. I went to a centre of data recuperation. They managed to get a lot out of the internal hard disk and put it in a new external hard drive. Apple then replaced my SSD, and I restored (from the external hard drive) what had been recuperated back on my computer with a new SSD. Now I realise that a lot of things are missing - especially pictures- which is quite annoying. I do have a very old back up that I did with Time Machine on another external hard drive. My question is: how can I restore only the pictures from that back up? I can't go back on time machine because this is a new SSD, and I don't wanna restore everything from that back up as I have more data on my computer as it is now.

What my questions is if I get an email from someone and then I forward it to someone now I have a duplicate one in my inbox and another in my sent. If I delete the one in my sent then when I open it the attachment will not show. Is there a way for it to just store the file once and then create an alias pointing to the main file.
Another example: If I attach a photo from iPhoto to an email there again is another duplicate. I would much rather Mail send the photo and create an alias to the original photo in iPhoto thus creating no duplicates.
I hope that was not confusing.
I want a program that will find duplicates and then keep 1 and create alias's for the one's deleted.
I know this is not all cases of duplicate files but mainly my Mail has way to many duplicates.
Any suggestions?

This is cause I didn't care before and now I do. I also have a lot of videos on my computer, mostly personal, that I'd like to rename. I tried doing it one by one (hitting enter/return key, then changing the name) but it's taking to long.
Is there a program that I can do it? Sorry if this was discussed already, not quite sure what to search.
I've been burnt a few times downloading NZB files with an end result of an error ."article missing". Is there a program for mac users that can validate the the NZB file before downloading? I know windows has something like this (for example see below)

At first, I tried to upgrade and the upgrade failed to the point of rendering the system useless. I then decided to reformat the drive using disk utility and try a clean install. I then got this error and I'm stuck and have no clue what to do now: "The installer can't extract files from the package for BaseSystem. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have never encountered anything like this before.

View 8 Replies View RelatedBasically, before I started using AppZapper for complete removal of the programs, I was just doing the drag'n'drop thing to the Trash when uninstalling programs.
Now I do not wish to keep my MBP polluted with unnecessary cache and other "remnants" of the previous programs that might not have been removed completely by the drag & drop method.
I've downloaded CleanApp, but from the looks of things it seems just like another AppZapper type of a program - for deleting current applications. However, I'd need something to look for possible remains of my previously installed programs.
Is there such a program?

Background:I used "RAR expander" for a long time until I came across a file it was not compatible with. I then downloaded and installed "The Unarchiver" and it worked on the file "RAR expander" would not open.
After that "The Unarchiver" became the default program for .rar files. The problem is that "The Unarchiver" does not work well with password protected files. So for months now I have just manually opened "RAR expander" whenever I try to open a password protected file.
I want to keep both programs so I will be able to open any file, but as I rarely use "The Unarchiver" I would like to have that be the one I have to dig through sub-folders to use. That is, unless there is some excellent program I have not tried.
I have handbrake, but want something that will allow me to convert any of my video files to avi or mpeg-2, these seem to stream a bit better and want to convert all to mainly avi, but something with a bit more options would be better. Mac only no windows apps!
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way that I can hide the "Microsoft User Data" and "RDC Connections" folders that Microsoft 2011 creates. I've tried adding a "." in front of the folder, but it returns an error message that says that folders and files starting with a dot/period are reserved for system files. I then tried using a program called Ghost Sphere which did the job for hiding the folder, but then Microsoft couldn't access the file and just created another...putting me back where I started. So I searched the web for solutions but I couldn't find anything reliable. So my question is, are there any programs or methods that will let me hide a file in the finder but still let it be accessible to the program that created it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to batch-extract a large folder of *.rar archives which all have the same password without having to manually enter the password each time. To this end I have managed to install the popular extraction utility 'unrar' and use it via Terminal.
I think I've gotten a handle on using the switches etc, as I have managed to successfully extract one file, without creating a subdirectory, and without having to enter the password (apart from in the single command, obviously...). The next part, applying the 'unrar' command to all 578 files, is proving more difficult..
