MacBook Pro :: Unable To Access Lost Keychain / Keychain Cannot Be Found For Safari

Jun 29, 2009

I'm sure this is a very basic question, but having just made the Mac switch a week ago...I am lost. when I did a forum search, I found out how to access keychains, but I'm not sure if I found something particular to my question- please forgive me if I overlooked something.

I was downloading microsoft software last night and all of a sudden I began getting these little pop-ups that say "A keychain cannot be found for safari" with the option to cancel or reset to default.

how can I fix this so it doesn't happen?

Applications :: Safari Asking For A Password To Access The Keychain / Keychain Can't Be Found

Jan 19, 2009

Safari keeps giving me popup windows saying a keychain can't be found. It's only just started doing this but it's really annoying. Could it have anything to do with the fact I installed a new flash player? That's the only difference I can think of.Also on another computer it keeps asking for a password to access the keychain. It only does this on one user account though. Any assistance is gladly accepted!

Software :: Keychain Login Cannot Find To Store Safari

Dec 28, 2007

I keep getting this message. I just installed Leopard, but the problem began right before the install. Keychain "login" cannot be found to store "Safari", with the option to Restore Defaults or Cancel. It's driving me freaking crazy, I'm sure it's an easy fix. Let me know what to do. My Keychain Access is empty, showing no passwords or "login" I usually store passwords into my keychain, why aren't they still there? How does this problem start?

OS X :: Using Keychain Access - Safari / Keychain Fill Passwords Automatically?

May 9, 2009

I've never used OSX before about a week ago, but I am picking up on it well (I've used GNU/Linux for almost ten years so I know my way around an operating system). But I don't really think keychain access is working as it should...It's hard to explain. I mean, the way I understand it, shouldn't it be saving the passwords I type into Safari and auto-filling them? Because it only auto-fills some passwords. Paypal autofills, but my bank's website doesn't, and even this forum doesn't autofill. I have to type in my password every time I visit.

Is this working as intended? Is there a way I can get Safari or Keychain to fill in all passwords for me automatically? This is leopard on an iMac G5 iSight model. I did a fresh install like a week ago. Sorry if my question is vague but that's the best I can do with the amount I understand.

OS X Mavericks :: Keychain Login Cannot Be Found After Upgrade (10.9.4)

Jul 1, 2014

This Macbook Pro has been running Mavericks from the beginning and has gone through at least one other upgrade.  After upgrading to 10.9.4 today, this popup keeps coming, sometimes with an application/account name sometimes not.  Of course "login" is fine in keychain and many applications/Web sites using "login" keychain continue to work, including those implicated in popups.  I tried "Verify/Repair" in Keychain First Aid.  No error found.  I tried to repair file system in Disk Utility.  Nothing changes.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Force-disable Ability For Keychain To Store Specific Passwords?

Apr 5, 2012

Does anyone know of a way to force-disable the ability for Keychain to save/store the passwords for specific services? For example, when a user launches a FileMaker database, they're propted (via a Finder-style popup window) to enter their username/password for that database. And there's the checkbox option to "Remember this password in my keychain". The same thing happens when mounting Share Points via AFP on one of my Xserves — the user is prompted for their login credentials and given the option to remember the login info in their keychain.

It's our company's policy that users DO NOT use keychain to store passwords for these to services, but thus far, aside from physically checking the individual user accounts on the various machines (which is pretty much impossible), there's no way to enforce this policy. So, I'm hoping to find a way to disable the ability for passwords for these services to be stored in the user's keychain.

Safari :: Passwords Not Saving In Keychain?

Apr 5, 2012

I use Safari and have done so since owning macs for years. Never had a problem with keychain and safari remembering passwords and usernames. Since updating to the latest verison of Safari 5.1. I've encountered a problem where it won't remember the password for my websites. I have turned on autofill / user names and passwords. Even tried deleting the partciular sites from my Keychain, then removing the site and username from the autofill list in safari. But when i do this and go back to the site i want to save details on Keychain won't save any of my details. I have tried repairing keychain, restoring from an old keychain folder from my time machine. But nothing!

Safari :: Keychain Doesn't Always Fill In It

Jul 1, 2012

Keychain doesn't always fill in Safari logins, despite still having them stored there. Lately, it's favorite non-filler is Facebook. Full login right there in the chain, but does nothing. Not much more in details than that. Running the latest Lion & Safari - any thoughts on why it doesn't do what it should be?

Safari :: Auto-fill And Keychain Access In Lion?

Feb 9, 2012

I'm struggling to get Autofill and Keychain Access configured to operate in a rational way. Perhaps I don't understand something, but judging from all the discussion in various places, there seems to be quite a bit of confusion on the subject. What I want to do seems pretty logical and straightforward (at least to me) :

When I visit a secure site (say for online banking), I would like to have Safari use Autofill to get the password for his site from my keychain (where it is kept securely encrypted when not in use), and fill in the username and password fields for me. What I do not want is for Safari and Keychain Access to retain that userid and password info indefinitely. For example, I logged in to pay a bill at the airport lounge, and then someone swipes my MacBook, logs in, and transfers all my funds to their bank.

It seems that this was what was happening when I first set up Autofill... each time I went to the secure login page, Safari/Autofill/Keychain Access automatically filled in the userid and pw with no prompts, or request for authentication. This behavior might be OK for a website such as the New York Times, but it's not OK for my online banking account!

After some reading, much of which was conflicting due to various OS and Safari versions involved, and some trial and error and testing, I came up with the following settings:

1. In Safari, I set up Autofill to automatically supply userid's and pw's: At this point, there are no websites listed in the "Edit..." window.

2. Next, I entered the required info (userid, pw, URL) in Keychain Access, and set its Access Control as follows:  This, I hoped would require that *each* use of the userid and pw be authenticated.

3. Now for the test: I go to the website, and get a request for authentication: So far, this is what I had hoped for, but immediately after I supply the keychain password, I am prompted for it again as follows (I've blanked the actual name of the website):

I want this to be secure, but entering the same keychain password twice is just annoying. I've tried various combinations and tweaks to configure this to work rationally (i.e. one and only one keychain password entry), but have not been successful. It seems that it will work with *no* authentication required, or with *double* authentication required.

Intel Mac :: Folder Cannot Be Found And Safari Will Not Save Any Of Settings Changes

Jun 10, 2012

I work for a University and the school bought me an iMac in January. Before giving it to me they had a username and password put on it so that only I could access it. I took it home for the summer and realized that the login info would only work on the school's network. To get around this I erased the account by holding down "command +S" during startup. It solved the problem and I was able to login and use the computer however now it says iTunes cannot be located and therefore cannot be used and when I use Safari it will not save any of the settings changes like changed startup pages etc. I reinstalled Lion by pressing "command + R" during startup but still encounter the same problem. how to completely erase everything and go back to factory settings?

OS X :: Unable To Auto-login To Guest Account / Safari Wants To Use Keychain Login

Jan 6, 2009

I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.

The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.

Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!

So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.

The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?

Software :: Using Password For Standard User Account / Safari Is Asking For A Keychain Password

May 11, 2009

I'm working on a Mac-mini running OS X Tiger. I've got one admin account setup and 5 or so standard accounts. I'm configuring a connection to a shared folder on a network server on the standard accounts and I wanted to connect to that share using an account id that is DIFFERENT than the standard account id. I enter that id and the correct password and I check "save password in keychain" (or whatever that check box says) and I get prompted to enter the "keychain password" to unlock the keychain. The problem is, I never setup a keychain password for the standard user account. I'v tried the password for the administrator account (even though I can't specify the admin id anywhere) and I've tried the password for the standard user account, neither of which work.

However, I can still get successfully connected to the shared folder. I just don't want the user to have to enter the password each time they login.

Additionally, after going through this, Safari is now asking for a keychain password for the "login" keychain when it first starts up and loads the default Apple.com home page.

MacBook :: Annoying Message - Safari Wants To Use "keychain Login" Enter Password

Apr 5, 2010

My girlfriends Macbook has this popup about every 2-3 minutes while youre browsing the web. She doesnt remember ever setting a "keychain" password, and tried to type in the password that she uses to log into her macbook, but apparently it's not the same password. What can I do to get rid of this if she doesn't know the password? Can I delete and then reinstall Safari? Do I need to reformat and install the entire OSX? Should I just use Firefox and forget about Safari?
