I am running Mac OS X Tiger. A friend wants me to retrieve all of the data from an Address Book Backup sent her on a CD from abroad. Nothing I have done works!
The size of the Backup is 5.6MB.
I have created a new account for the purpose. With Address Book (AB) open, File > Revert to address book backup gave only 2 card entries, one being the User and the other the Apple Mac welcome card.
I synced my Nokia 6300 with Address Book and all about 450 contacts were transferred successfully. I used the iSync. In the meantime, I added some 50 more contacts to my cell phone Contacts and wanted to sync them with address book as well. So, I deleted all the existing 450 contacts from the Address Book on my Mac, hoping the next time I sync cellphone with computer, only the new 50 contacts will be transferred to Address Book. Here is what I ended up with: Address Book with only 50 new contacts and CELL PHONE with only 50 SAME contacts! All of the previous 450 contacts just disappeared from my cell phone! Just like that! I was wondering if there is any chance I can retrieve my contacts, it does not matter where to...either cell phone or Address Book on my Mac. Btw, I am using Leopard 10.5.8 and I have searched all over the web, everybody is mentioning some AddressBook.data.previous file but I cannot find it anywhere! I even created Automator ShowAllFiles Finder Plug in, the Addressbook.data.pevious just is not there. Is there any hope for my contacts or should I try to do something?

I have a broken Macbook which by the genius bar staff. My machine can be repair for £300. I feel it not necessary

I have tried to move them into the machine hard dirve and restart, but that is not working. I have also tired to move two adressbook plist files from preferences and that did not help. Don't know what to do next.

So I drag the Address Book to the hard drive thinking it would back up all my contacts. Went to test it on my wife's MacBook Pro, it just shows her contacts in there and not mine. Unless there was a way to back up all the info to a thumb drive or CD for later reinstall.

One user doesn't really need a robust backup solution, but the person getting a mac soon does.
I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone if I got a Time Capsule. Now I've read all about how you can partition Time Capsule and stuff like that (and I'm technical enough that I could probably pull that off if I wanted to, but I don't think I do). What I haven't found out is what the Time Capsule does if two users have been syncing to it, and on the next backup it runs out of space.
Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI connected my windows removable disk to my colleague's mac to transfer some data. Accidentally her system started a time machine backup on my removable disk. Although we stopped it during middle of the process, now my disk is no longer recognizable in windows and all I can see under a mac system is her backup file.
The process took a very short time. I wonder if it has deleted everything. Is there any chance I can get the overwritten data back? They are very important to me.
Besides, is it a common problem of time machine backup? It is too dangerous for the removable disks.

I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like
xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.
This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought.Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !
Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?
All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.
How would I go about backing-up the disk if the image doesn't appear under devices? I went to the "Restore" tab/button, but I can not choose the hard drive in the first field. I could have sworn my hard drive was formatted for Mac, but I may have formatted it back to FAT32. I know the disk still functions because when it is powered on, it cycles with/without being connected to my MacPro, but after that, it will only cycle if connected (confirming connection). It does run again when I connect the firewire cable. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just been inputing email addresses into my Mac Address Book. One email at a time. All of a sudden it wipe every email address in then (over 4000) and left 2.
It wiped out all the Group Folders I had in there as well. Basically all I can view now is the 2 emails, nothing else. I've found some of the emails (only 50 or so) in a Recovered Files folder in the Trash.
