Safari crashes randomly, meaning that it sometimes is running in the beackground and I am not doing anything with it. It seems that this problem only exists since I have done the following changes: I updated the Adobe Flash Player and I downloaded and installed Minecraft for Mac (I did not play it, since I forgot it was not for free ^^).

Yesterday, Safari began crashing every 45 minutes. I get a message that says Safari quit unexpectedly because of a plug-in called .MasterofDefense.tmp. I used finder to search my computer, and I cannot find this file.  PlugIn Path: /Users/<myname>/Library/Application Support/.MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Identifier: .MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Version:   ??? (???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.Â

My second generation black macbook has always been working perfectly until last night... I was watching a movie on my external monitor, when the computer kinda a froze, became irresponsive etc... Rare but ok. I reboot the machine (it was plugged in with the power source and battery inside). The machine won't start... so I remove the battery, reset the PVRAM, etc. The usual things. The computer restart just fine with only the power cord plugged in but not the battery. I tried to plugged the battery when the computer was running and it crashed it immidiately: this weird black screen that appears really really rarely saying that I need to reboot.
I reboot with the battery in, I hear the optical drive makes it's bzzz bzzz sound as usual, but the screen won't turn on, no chime, nothing. I remove the battery again still plugged in, but it won't start... I finally reallized that I need to do the reset thingy apple + command + power button with everything unplugged (battery and power cord) to have the computer restart after I placed the battery inside. I don't understand.. what could be wrong ? My battery ? It's fully charged... it was showing pretty good health last time I check (99%).

So....... for some reason my Mac crashes if I plug in the USB HDD I have been using for Time Machine on my MBP (Late 2008).
There are also two other partitions on HDD, one FAT and one Mac.... not sure which. I have not actually used either of these partitions yet. Only the Time Machine partition. I used the same MBP to make the 3 parts using DU.
If I plug it in I get a grey screen telling me to hold down power to reboot.
If I boot with the HDD attached then it gets so far but hangs before Login screen.
I am happy to format the HDD. Not sure how, as I dont have another mac to see if it works on that.
My work Win PC can read and write the Fat partition, so I don't think the error is with the physical HDD. Is there a way to format the entire 500GB in XP, even though I can only see a 70GB partition ? ? I am happy using DOS command line if needed... can't find any DU type application in XP.

Intuit on Tuesday announced QuickBooks 2011 for Mac, its latest accounting and bookkeeping application with a new multi-user solution, satisfying the most-requested feature from customers. The new multi-user support in QuickBooks 2011 for Mac includes user permission controls that will allow small-business owners to delegate accounting tasks to others in the company. Intuit said that the "guiding principle" in the development of the latest version of QuickBooks was to save small businesses time. QuickBooks 2011 for Mac will become available for purchase on Sept. 27, and will support up to five users accessing records at the same time.
Administrators will be able to control the level of access individual users have to records. The 2011 update will also offer milage tracking, the ability to sort transactions in account registers, quick export to Excel or Numbers, and better report customization. "With the multi-user solution, which includes user permission controls, small business owners will be able to delegate important accounting tasks to others in the company," said Will Lynes, Intuit's QuickBooks for Mac product manager. QuickBooks 2011 for Mac will also supports QuickBooks connect for the iPhone and iPod touch, and batch invoicing. The full list features in the new QuickBooks 2011 for Mac, according to Intuit, includes:
Scale the Back Office as You Grow
Multi-User Access allows up to five employees to simultaneously view and edit QuickBooks data files.
User Permissions lets small businesses determine who can work in up to eight accounting activity areas. In addition, iChat integration allows logged-in users to communicate with each other using QuickBooks to avoid crossed wires.
Make Everyday Tasks Easier
Mileage Tracking enables users to log their job-related auto mileage for reimbursement on customer invoices and at tax time, giving small businesses a better understanding of job costs.
Register Sorting allows users to find specific transactions faster by easily sorting account registers by date, type, number, amount, and other fields.
Export Report Data seamlessly to either Excel or Numbers.
Little Square is a free, online magazine with videos, articles and other resources that helps users learn the ins and outs of QuickBooks for Mac.
Customize for Your Needs
Layout Designer offers improved, ready-made templates to give users the ability to create customized forms for estimates, invoices and more. New tools simplify image cropping and field alignment to create a unique, professional look. Customize Reports allows users to more easily create custom reports with a modern look using familiar Mac-like tools.

Is it possible for two different user accounts on the same iMac to point at the same iTunes library ?Â
Home sharing the library that currently exists just in the Admin account does not seem to do the trick.Â
If so, would the library need to be re-located outside of the Admin users account, or not? For example to an external drive?Â
The reason for asking is that my wife and I both wish to sync our iPhones to the same set of iTunes playlists, movies, app's etc, (and iPhoto albums, but that is a different posting) but need to maintain separate user accounts on the iMac so that we can have independent Mail and Address books.Â
I stress that this will be on the same machine, (as the laptop has died and is to be replaced with an iPad) so there is no risk of both accounts attempting to access the library at the same time.Â

For a variety of reasons I want to make the Users' Library visible. The main reason is that I want to Import the Safari bookmarks into Opera. I can't do that because the Users' Library is invisible.Â
If I enter Safari into Spotlight I can find the folder okay but that is useless for my purpose. It's okay if I want to transfer Bookmarks to a new computer or external drive but not for importing the Safari bookmarks to Opera.Â
It used to be visible, I don't know why, it just appeared out of the ether. Since I have updated the OS it has vanished again. Never could understand why the folder was made invisible anyway.Â

I want to set my wife up as a separate user on my mac and share my music file with her so we no longer mix up our iPhone apps. I don't want a second copy on my hard drive. I've tried one method on here HT1203 but it makes a second copy and fills up my hard drive. I do not want to share the whole media library just the music. There must be an easy way to use two iPhones with separate user ids on one Mac so we don't mix up our apps. I would have though that the great Apple would have just sorted this out when you plug in a different device.

Finder has been hanging recently, causing other apps (and sometimes the whole system) to become unresponsive. i googled for fixes, and followed a suggestion to reboot into Safe Mode, navigate through a few directories in Finder, then restart normally. having done this, i now find that Chrome's settings and bookmarks have been wiped and my contacts and calendars have gone AWOL; it seems that most of the subdirectories under ~/Library/Application Support have disappeared, taking my Calendars, Contacts, etc. with them...

My wife and I have both just got iPhones. I have created a user account for her on my intel iMac and want to use the iphones on the one computer.
I need to share the iTunes library (and iphoto eventually) so I dont have to double-up everything.
I have tried dragging the Itunes Music into the shared folder... and creating aliases as described in various places on the web and in magazines, but this simply does not work. No tracks appear in my wife's itunes. There is not even 'shared library' icon on the left hand side.

Having upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, the TextEdit 1.7 (289.3) application does not display any fonts placed in Users area: Mac HD/Users/Library/Fonts. But the same fonts are OK when placed at Public area: Mac HD/Library/Fonts. Tried Repairing Permission via Disk Utility with no joy. Although fonts placed at Users area don't display in TextEdit, they do display in Quark XPress, FileMaker, OpenOffice, Illustrator etc, etc.
