I am unable to open PDF files. All I get is a blank black screen. I now download PDFs into my computer from the internet (with mixed success), which is several steps more than has ever taken me in the past. Since finding this problem I have updated the Adobe Reader and run system updates today, to no avail. Adobe reports that there is a compatibility issue between Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader. They offer several solutions none of which has worked for me. [URL]. Is updating Safari going to work for me, or are there other solutions?
Info: iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.0.5
If I download a hjsplit file (a file split into multiple, consecutive parts .001, .002, .003, etc for recombination by the hjsplit program) safari tries to be clever, and adds a file extension of the file type, so instead of getting 3 files called:Â
x.001
x.002
x.003Â
I get something likeÂ
x.001.mp3
x.002.mp3
x.003.mp3Â
Presumably the website tells safari the filetype, but usually a browser allows me to override mime types like this. In firefox files are not renamed (so I know it is theoretically possible), whereas in safai they are, and therefore are no use to the hjsplit program until I manually rename them.Â
I think this is a webkit thing, since chrome does the same thing, whereas gecko browsers like firefox and camino do not.Â
As stated in the title, when I try to download a file from the internet, clicking on the link associated to the file will not start a download, but instead opens a new tab in my browser showing the url of the associated file. If I then right-click and choose 'Download linked file as...' the file can be downloaded with no issues in most of the cases, at least as long as the website allows right-click downloads to happen.I have tried resetting Safari, emptying the cache and, of course, updating my software. It is a midly annoying problem, but it doesn't happen when I use other web browsers in my iMac.

When I try to download free sound effects or video files, I try doing a Save As in Safari, but each time I get the error "the document 'click.mp3" could not be exported as 'click.mp3'". In FireFox I can download any of these files with no problem. Did Apple change something in Safari that this no longer works? It's a pain in the butt to change browsers every time I need to download a file.
I have some PDF files that I need to download from the internet/Safari. How do I do that? There is a button that I can click on my PC using Firefox but I can't find anything in Safari of my iMac.
When I try to download something from download.com or other websites, it just goes to a blank page and the download never happen, I open the download tab and saw it was blank.
this really frustrating, its the same on Safari and mozilla on my Mac.
When I attempt to download a .wmv file, it appears to download (as evidenced in download manager) but then stalls forever and never finishes the job. I can download other media files without problem. I have updated WMP. Im on G4 PB 10.4.3.
So a while ago i installed iGetter and jDownloader to handle some of my downloading needs. These have both been uninstalled a while ago and i seem to have the problem that if i navigate to a file in my browser it will not download, it just sits there and does nothing. This is really anoyying as i can't download any files anymore
I presume one of these applications has disabled this behaviour in os x so that it can hijack it and use the app to download files. Does anybody know how to revert this so that browsers can handle downloads properly?
I've been having trouble downloading files from an ftp server (URL) on Finder and while it does fully download eventually, it takes a while and if I click the x to stop it, the download won't stop. Is this a known problem with Finder, is it a glitch, or is it my internet connection.
Ok so i just got a mac and this is the first time im ever using one, I love it btw, but i cant download .zip files from various things every time I try and download a .zip file this message comes up
I've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
for some reason I can not download anything from safari. I have v3.0.2 and have downloaded apps before, but for some reason it comes up with a message saying 'can not create file'. any ideas?
This brings up the activity window. Navigate to the desired page in the window. The video should be somewhere in the mb range, usually 5+ mb. Double-click on it. Download will begin.
If it's tough to spot, reload the page and quickly open the activity window. You might catch it in the middle of loading, making it easier to spot.
I can't download any software of file at my Mac OSX, I used Safari, Firefox & opera and still can't download the file. Each time I try to download the file I got black screen in Safari and nothing happen afterward. I tried to download the same file from different Mac and the download start immediately. do anyone have a solution to this problem;
FYI, I have MBP 3.1 with snow leopard as operating system.
Running OS X (10.9.3) and Safari 7.0.4. Can't print pdf files from Safari and sometimes can't download them either (error says they are corrupted) but I can download from a windows laptop. I found something online about disabling a pdf plug-in, but it was for Lion, so not sure if it's still the correct fix. Also, how to uninstall a plug-in unless you provide exact locations of where the plug-ins are stored.
I recently deleted the app speed download and didn't use the uninstaller so I'm worried my browsers may be looking for that and it's not there. I'm not getting any popups or anything when I try to download something, safari just goes to a black/grey screen and nothing happens. Please help!!
On my MAC Safari is crashing every time I try opening a file I've received vie email (Gmail or Hotmail) whether photo, pdf, word anything really, I click on it and a few seconds later safari shuts down and I get the "safari has quit unexpectedly" message. Its also crashing As soon as I try downloading Google chrome (the moment I click download).I've tried resetting safari, and even choosing the older version on the drop down menu in preferences but that made no difference.
On a white plastic unibody macbook 13in, with 10.6.8, and safari 5.1.4, I can not update flash, nor can I download Google Chrome. They both go to a blackscreen for under the tabs, but load the progress bar/url bar. Additionally, the problem is similar in Firefox, which leads me to believe that this may be a OSX issue, not a safari issue. Please help, this is incredibally annoying for someone who plays a large quantity of flash games, uses youtube, et cetera.
I click on a pdf document on a webpage. The computer acts like it is downloading the file (that is, it takes some time to complete its action). The window then shows a dark gray color rather than the document and no file name shows up in the download window. I have installed Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and am using Safari 5.1.5 and Mac OS 10.6.8.
I am trying to update my itunes. When going ot the apple website to download the new verison of safari 5.1.7 there is no button on the page to click to download it.
