Safari :: Disappearing Dock And Finder Bar?
Mar 14, 2012Is it possible to keep the dock visible at all times, as well as the Finder bar and bookmarks in Safari? This was the case before Lion.

OS X :: Safari And Itunes Icons Disappearing From Dock
Oct 29, 2009My Safari and iTunes icons are just spaces on my dock. There is no icon for either of them. If I click where there would be an icon, the programs launch. If I hover over the spaces, it shows the name of iTunes and Safari like it does for every other program. When they are open it shows the little light under the blank space like it normally would.

OS X :: Disappearing Dock Icons?
Mar 19, 2009This has happened to me a few time and I'd like to know if others are having the same problem:
Background: MBP 17", 4gb ram, lots of disk space, OSX 10.5.6, all apps located on system disk drive.
Problem: every so often, a random icon will just disappear from the Dock. Today it was Firefox, about a month ago it was iTunes. I can add them back, but why do they leave in the 1st place.

Jan 30, 2010I have been trying to figure out why my MBA seems to be so odd?
I am running 10.6.2 OSX and every time I try to move the icons around in the dock they either move place by themselves or delete themselves?
This is especially true with browser icons. For example I could have safari open and try to move the icon in the dock from the far right towards the left ..... It will do this and stay there for approx. 5 seconds and then return back to the far right.?
If I close the safari program the icon disappears from the dock. If I then try to drag the safari program into the dock from the applications folder, it will sit there for 5 seconds again and then just delete itself off the dock. This also happens to Skype, Firefox etc.....
I have tried everything from terminal / killall Dock ..... to deleting files from /Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist etc with nothing working ??
// ps I do have a mobileme account with syncing function but have dock syncing turned off etc .... I have also tried re-booting multiple times after trying different routes and nothing has worked.
After trying nearly everything I can think of (even checking repairing in disk utility) I seem to have drawn a blank.
So I have enclosed a video of my desktop showing the problem of the disappearing icons. The weirdest part is its selective so some icons could stay when being dragged their while other disappear in a matter of seconds?

Aug 9, 2010My doc disappears every few minutes than reappears suddenly. I have no idea why this is happening. When the doc disappears from the bottom of my desktop I cannot downsize anything until it reappears. Very frustrating! I tried to find something in system preferences but couldn�t. Has anyone else out there had this happen? I�m running 10.2.4.

Dec 24, 2007Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..?
I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there. I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
Any ideas what's going on?

OS X :: Finder Icon Missing / Finder Became Invisible After Relauncing The Dock
Oct 1, 2009Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use.When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?

May 22, 2012Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

Sep 18, 2010i cant figure out where the downloads are going. In Safari Preferences, it's set to have the downloads go inside Finder in a folder called "Downloads," but the only thing in there is a GIF I downloaded. I searched in the Documents folder, but the downloads are not there either.

Mar 8, 2012Whenever I minimize a window in Safari it disappears, rather than show the minimized window on the dashboard. It never used to do that. When I click on the yellow minimizing button, the genie effect brings it to the Safari icon on the dock. From there, it seems to have disappeared.

MacBook Pro :: Bookmarks Disappearing On Safari?
Apr 8, 2012I'm having an issue with my bookmarks on the bookmark bar, being deleted and then replaced with my sister's bookmarks. Not to mention that my sister's bookmark's are on her macbook air. So, it is not even like we are using the same computer! Is it because we both are using the same time machine and it is switching them? This has happen a few times. But usually i get hers and mine stay and i just delete hers. This time though, mine were deleted and replaced with hers. I can't figure out how to get mine back and i needed some of those links i saved! they were for school/ other important things!

Apr 15, 2012This issue has been annoying people for a number of years and all kinds of solutions have been posted by Geniuses, mainly to carefully dump the Safari .plist from the Preferences folder. That does not fix the issue! What does work is this: View, Enter FULL SCREEN. Click it 'OFF'. The display will resize and IF you want to stretch it bigger, you can BUT the Toolbar will stop disappearing!

I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.

Mar 13, 2010Everything was fine. Then I ran the software update and there was Safari 4.0.5 and I decided to update. After my iMac had restarted, the OS went completely berserk. If I click the dropdown menus, they start to flicker and run trough over and over again by itself and I can't click anything. My mouse buttons do straight things, bring up the finder and then I can't even go through the folders. I can't write with my keyboard, it just gives me random letters and I can't delete them. I mean the computer went completely crazy. I've never seen anything like this and I've used this iMac perfectly now almost two years. Everything is just flashing, flickering, jamming, cursor disappearing and doing straight things, I can't do pretty much anything. This has to be a virus, right?

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.

Apr 27, 2012I seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.

Jun 3, 2010I've been an Apple faithful for four years now, and I just got a brand new Mac Pro for a graduation present. I've been tinkering with icons, so I can get them just the way I want them, and some form of glitch occurred, and my dock, though having a light and open space to show that Finder is running, shows no icon. It's really confusing me, and I've tried opening up Candybar to see if I can restore it to normal there, and it doesn't even show up in the menu where it used to! I need some help...I've already tried the usual log out/in, unplug...I just need to get this resolved.
