Any advice on doubling or tripling my 60GB machine and, possibly, the ram? Vendors? Quality problems, if any? (I only use my PowerBook G4 for photography--storage and editing, some word processing, and spreadsheet work.) My processor is 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4. Memory is 768 MB DDR SARAM. Running OS X 10.4.9.

I bought my MBP second hand so do not have any of the installation disks - is this going to be a problem? I do have an 1TB external HDD which I use for backing up.
Im trying to put my itunes playlists into folders but I cant seem to get any more than 1000-1500 songs into a folder. Some of my playlists have over 2000 songs in them and I don't want to split it up into 2 different folders. I've tried putting 500 in at a time instead of 2000 all at once and it still wont let me add all the songs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used an app on my MBP called Coconut battery. it said that my current battery capacity was 94% of what it was since I bought it. I assumed that means those 6% are never coming back and I should start using it more responsibly to make it last longer. I read a lot of forums on how to use your notebook effectively, when to plug it in, how much I should let it discharge etc. After 2 weeks of my new habits, I checked my battery life again and now it says 96%. Is it even possible for it to go back up?

As in thread, I noticed in CoconutBattery and in iStatNano widget that my battery is losing capacity, yesterday I had 96% now I see 94%, I've got my MacBook since May and it has 59 cycles yet.
I think that it shouldn't lose capacity now, ok, later but now is to fast, do you think so? Is there any solution to increase this capacity? I've got MB Unibody 2GHz, Late 2008, but I bought it in May 2009 "as new"..
I'm considering replacing the 640 gb Hitachi HDT721064SLA360 in my 24" iMac with a Samsung Spinpoint F3EG HD203WI 2TB drive. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me whether I will see any performance increases along with the extra capacity. The Hitachi is a 7200rpm drive, while the Sammy is 5400rpm, but the Hitachi has only a 16mb buffer and the Sammy sports a 32mb. Would the Samsung be faster than the Hitachi or would it suffer because of the lower rotational speed?

We all know that you could never have enough memory in our computers, so I have a fairly simple question to ask. When OS 10.6.0 comes out a.k.a. Snow Leopard, will all the Intel Core 2 Duo machines have an increased ram capacity. It looks more and more everyday as if 4GB is becoming a standard in machines and all across the board (Dell,Hp,Apple) computer these days are handling 8GB of ram with ease. So does anybody know if when Snow Leopard comes out, will there be a potential for my MacBook to contain 8GB of ram.

I recently bought a 12" Powerbook G4 from ebay, and am curious to know about the battery capacity. It came with the original Apple battery, and it usually powers off before the battery is at a low percentage power. So I have installed Coconut Battery and Battery Health Monitor to check how the battery is doing.
Both say that the battery capacity is now 6393mAh, and the original capacity was 4200mAh. As such, they say the battery health is 100%. How is this possible? How can battery capacity increase? I presume this is wrong. Is there any way to correct this? The powerbook, according to the apps, is 65 months old (it is an original 867MHz model). Both battery apps also say the battery has gone through 59 charge cycles.

I want to change those to one, two or three 512 MB cards instead, but the manual says something about there being certain restrictions for 512 cards. Translated from Swedish:"If you install DIMM-modules of 512 MB they must have 256 Mb-units". What does that mean exactly and how do I check that they in fact have "256 Mb-units"?
I'm about to purchase one and I keep getting mixed answers. I know there are two slots in this model, but i've been told it holds a maximum of 2GB, 1GB in each, and also that it only holds 1GB, 512MB in each.
Someone that has this model may know the real answer. Keep in mind, this is the 17", not the 20", so it may be different.
Also, are both slots accessible?
I have the 12" 1.5ghz model as many of you know. While a great machine, and fast enough for most things, I'd like to get a little more omph out of it. I can't use Tiger by the way. My school's software requires Leopard.

Anyone else notice a 1000rpm CPU fan speed increase on their G5 after the last round of system updates? My CPU's used to idle at ~120*f with a fan speed of 500rpm. After the 10.5.2 update they idle at ~89*f and 1500rpm. There is no perceptible noise change and I didn't even notice the change until I saw the cold CPU temperatures. I'm not worried about it, I'm just wondering if I'm alone or this is one of the system level .2 changes not massively publicized.

What is the simplest was to increase the memory on a 10GB Imac G3. 9.7GB are used up and there isn't much I can delete to free up space. It is a friend's computer, she is not mac savvy.
Also, I am considering rebooting the system as there is an account on there with a forgotten password and the original administrator password is long forgotten. What would be the best way to go about doing this? I have 10.4 os discs, with extra memory would this work ok?

I was wondering. A friend of mine has a Emac 700mhz equipped with a 56k modem. She has an "intermediary" speed internet connection. With that, she can't really view a video - let's say from Youtube. It just keeps hanging. She only has 256mg of RAM which can be boosted to 1G, and I was wondering if by doing so, it would have a significant impact on her Emac capacity to view such content.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a 1st gen Mac Pro (1,1 A1186) and fully tested it - everything OK. I then proceeded to put in 3 new SATA drives into the empty bays - 2 x 1TB and 1 x 2TB - making 4.25TB in total.
I'm now getting various sorts of weird behaviour - slow booting & shutting down, certain volumes disappearing and reappearing in the finder, and even full-blast fans and flashing power light. The 2TB drive is partitioned into 3 volumes, and this is the one that seems to be giving all the problems.
I now understand that Apple stated a 2TB total limit on these machines on launch. Is there any way around this?
I have a G5 dual 2.5 mhz and want to upgrade the hard drives. Is there a limit to the size drive I can install, or my system will recognize? I'm looking at 2 x 1TB.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have MacBook Pro about 17 months old (bought new Summer 2008). According to Coconut Battery, my current battery capacity is 96% after 185 cycles (see below). This was taken just after I re-calibrated the battery last night. I usually work the laptop from the battery ... I rarely leave the laptop plugged in unless charging, and when fully charged I always unplug and run the battery down before plugging in again. So, is 96% battery capacity good or bad for a 17 month old MacBook with 185 charge cycles? Is the way I'm charging ok, or is it better to have the MacBook plugged in continuously and have less charge cycles (would this give me a better battery health %)?
