I was wondering. A friend of mine has a Emac 700mhz equipped with a 56k modem. She has an "intermediary" speed internet connection. With that, she can't really view a video - let's say from Youtube. It just keeps hanging. She only has 256mg of RAM which can be boosted to 1G, and I was wondering if by doing so, it would have a significant impact on her Emac capacity to view such content.

I have an Apple Imac running OSX 10.4.11.I recently signed up to a satellite internet service and the speed and reliability are very poor.
It seems to take forever to download a website. When I use Google with Firefox, more often than not I get a blank screen. If I hit the reload button the page may or may not load. The ISP tech support point the finger at Apple; Apple support points the finger at the ISP.
The ISP tech support guy who installed the satellite service knew nothing about Apples but the service seemed to work fine when he tried his PC laptop.
I just found that when I download from the net, via http, my internet speed is up to 50 kbps but I used transmission once which offered me more than 200 kbps, which means that my net is able to get more than 200 kb/s so can anyone tell me how how to get more speed on applications like safari.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone else notice a 1000rpm CPU fan speed increase on their G5 after the last round of system updates? My CPU's used to idle at ~120*f with a fan speed of 500rpm. After the 10.5.2 update they idle at ~89*f and 1500rpm. There is no perceptible noise change and I didn't even notice the change until I saw the cold CPU temperatures. I'm not worried about it, I'm just wondering if I'm alone or this is one of the system level .2 changes not massively publicized.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a cheap wireless adapter on eBay (dumb idea, I know, but I've done it before for my PC and it worked) And I'm having a little trouble connecting.Basically, the program it runs through asks me to input my IP address.Well, I looked it up on my iBook, but when I put that address in, it says something to the tune of "This IP address is already in use."So...am I doing something wrong? Or is this thing just crap like I expected?

700mhz G4 processor, 40gb harddrive, DVD ReaderCombo drive, 17 inch screen, internal 56k modem, ethernet port, built-in speakers, 2 Firewire ports, 3 USB ports, external speaker & mic connections, and video output for an external monitor. fresh installation of OS X 10.1. Also I plan to update to tiger (get an update off ebay). Will the computer handle it well? I'm eventually going to upgrade to 1gb of RAM.
So after coming home from school to see my finished downloads so now after putting it all on my external harddrive so now I am trying to get on MSN. I look at my modem its fine go on firefox not connecting to google go reset modem and router nothing any one know whats going on.

My wife complains that the internet is slow & can't stream video.Th is computer is wired to a gigbit switch, then to 100 Mbit switch then to the router. I have a 24" iMac connected to same gigibit switch and have no problem with the internet speed.When I try to send a large file between my iMac & the G5, the transfer is slow. I checked in System Profiler and both computers detect the ethernet speed as 1000 Mbit (1gigabit or something like that).
Ideas on how to resolve? Gigbit ethernet cards that will work in the G5?I don't have Airport on the G5.
i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!

Now, I probably won't be needing 10gb for my audio work, so my question is, should I leave the stock ram out for the added benefit of the quad channel ram thingie? Because, according to this report, the 10gb config gives 6.8 throughput vs the 6.5 of the 4x2gb! I thought 4 or 8 slots filled should be faster? What gives??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a base model June 09 13" Macbook Pro running 10.6.2, during normal use CPU temp. is fine, lower than my previous Macbook 07 edition. However, when I use handbrake, the temp spikes very quickly, I know this is normal as the processsors are being used at 100%. However, unlike my old Macbook, the fan takes a long time to spin up to counter the increase in CPU temp. I see 101 degrees centigrade and the fans are still at 2000rpm. After a few minutes they react and slowly increase to maximum. I am not comfortable with this temp, my old Macbok used to only get to 85 degrees centigrade. I have read about SMC fan control, is there a way to set this so that it increases the fan speed at lower temps without having a detrimental effect on battery life.

Amazon now has a 16GB kit fro Corsair for only $100 - the least expensive price I've found. The only RAM intensive app I really run is Photoshop CS6,but I do keep a lot of apps open at one time (Acrobat Pro X, Outlook, InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Word, Parallels running XP, iTunes at the moment) and I was wondering if the extra RAM would actually help me out. I'm looking for some advice from people who have already upgraded to 16 GB... can you actually tell a difference?

I spent two weeks obsessing on what type of drive to put in my new 8-core Mac Pro (january 2008). I was all set on spending $$$ and go with two 1-TB Samsung's but at the last minute I read this:
[URL] which posted better World Bench ratings than a 10k Raptor and is quieter than WD's Green drives - NewEgg had been out of stock of this brand new drive and suddenly got a batch in and I ordered two of these (WD Caviar 640 Gig / 16 meg cache w/only 2 drive plates). This drive is LIGHTNING fast....I've got before and after bench marks to post, I went from a 56.84 to a 102.91! Also, these installed so easily - not a single hitch!
What do you guys think?I am also curious as to the clock speed of the new upcoming processors. Online it says the fastest one they have is 3.2 GHZ, so will the speed increase come from DDR3 memory and no frontside bus?Does anyone know the actual technical differences between the current processors and the upcoming, other than the memory and frontside bus?
