I have Mid 2011 iMac of 500GB hard disk capacity. Is it possible to add/increase the hard disk capacity internally, say add another 500GB or replace it with 1 TB drive?

I need to increase my HDD capacity. What is the best option?
Can I install a second internal HDD or will I need to replace my current drive?
I bought my MBP second hand so do not have any of the installation disks - is this going to be a problem? I do have an 1TB external HDD which I use for backing up.
Any advice on doubling or tripling my 60GB machine and, possibly, the ram? Vendors? Quality problems, if any? (I only use my PowerBook G4 for photography--storage and editing, some word processing, and spreadsheet work.) My processor is 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4. Memory is 768 MB DDR SARAM. Running OS X 10.4.9.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm trying to put my itunes playlists into folders but I cant seem to get any more than 1000-1500 songs into a folder. Some of my playlists have over 2000 songs in them and I don't want to split it up into 2 different folders. I've tried putting 500 in at a time instead of 2000 all at once and it still wont let me add all the songs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used an app on my MBP called Coconut battery. it said that my current battery capacity was 94% of what it was since I bought it. I assumed that means those 6% are never coming back and I should start using it more responsibly to make it last longer. I read a lot of forums on how to use your notebook effectively, when to plug it in, how much I should let it discharge etc. After 2 weeks of my new habits, I checked my battery life again and now it says 96%. Is it even possible for it to go back up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs in thread, I noticed in CoconutBattery and in iStatNano widget that my battery is losing capacity, yesterday I had 96% now I see 94%, I've got my MacBook since May and it has 59 cycles yet.
I think that it shouldn't lose capacity now, ok, later but now is to fast, do you think so? Is there any solution to increase this capacity? I've got MB Unibody 2GHz, Late 2008, but I bought it in May 2009 "as new"..
I'm considering replacing the 640 gb Hitachi HDT721064SLA360 in my 24" iMac with a Samsung Spinpoint F3EG HD203WI 2TB drive. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me whether I will see any performance increases along with the extra capacity. The Hitachi is a 7200rpm drive, while the Sammy is 5400rpm, but the Hitachi has only a 16mb buffer and the Sammy sports a 32mb. Would the Samsung be faster than the Hitachi or would it suffer because of the lower rotational speed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe all know that you could never have enough memory in our computers, so I have a fairly simple question to ask. When OS 10.6.0 comes out a.k.a. Snow Leopard, will all the Intel Core 2 Duo machines have an increased ram capacity. It looks more and more everyday as if 4GB is becoming a standard in machines and all across the board (Dell,Hp,Apple) computer these days are handling 8GB of ram with ease. So does anybody know if when Snow Leopard comes out, will there be a potential for my MacBook to contain 8GB of ram.

I want the 7200RPM, but wasn't sure 3.0GB would work on the intel controller, thinking it may only support 1.5GB. Also, when I reinstall leopard, does it allow me to format the drive to HFS+ or how would I do this?

I just bought my mac last month, and was thinking about down the line increasing the memory from 4GB to 8 or 16. But when I looked on Amazon, all I could find was memories and in the reviews everyone was talking about Macbooks, not iMacs. Could I use the same memory?Â

I have an Intel-based iMac 9.1 bought three years ago. Originally it had 2GB RAM, which I soon expanded to 4 GB.I'm currently running Snow Leopard, and I'm considering an upgrade to Mountain Lion. However, I fear this upgrade would be too much for my Mac to run smoothly.I wonder if I could add another 4 GB RAM, and more important, if I would experience any sensible improvement in performance. I have read that sometimes more RAM is useless because your computer simply can't use it completely, so would it be useful in my case?

The hard drive on my iMac is filling to capacity at an extremely accelerated rate. In order to have functionality, I had to delete some unnecessary files and used WhatSize to try and determine the culprit. When backing up my hard drive yesterday, Mail was showing to be 91G. The hard drive filled up again a few minutes later so I copied iTunes to an external drive for safe keeping freeing up 85G.
By this morning that was gone as well so I copied contents of Pictures over to external hard drive freeing up 189G. Mail is now up to 244G on my 500G hard drive. I rebooted at that point to see if that would stop the growth and it has currently, but it may start again. WhatSize says there are no duplicates. I am receiving and sending the same amount of mail that I usually do on a daily basis, so that is not the problem.

After a full migration from my 2006 Intel iMac to a new 12.1 21" iMac, I I tried to change some playlists and download other podcasts ect. on my ipods and i pad 2 on my new iMac , but the bar at the bottom of my sync window does not show the capacity bar along with the Revert and Apply buttons. Everything else looks like it should and I don't get any error messages.

Now, I want to erase lots of files from the startup disc or do whatever I need to do in order that I might have way more available memory on the startup disc. I need to know that my backups of iPhoto are truly on the external drive, and then I need to do something so that the memory available on my desktop is maximized.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.
