Everytime when I'm on my Powerbook after 1 hour, sometimes my keyboard messes up.
All the letters turns to letter and symbols.
I reboot the laptop and its fine, this only happens every now and again.
The apple keyboard and mouse have stopped working altogether on my powerbook. They were working just minutes ago. Restart did nothing. Ideas?
Both USB slots are working.
to make a long story short, my first gen 17" G4 PB had its trackpad/power button cable severed a year ago, forcing me to remove the battery and memory door each time I need to start up. It's been kernel panicking a lot in the last few months, but always restarts fine. Tonight, on startup, it could not find the HD, and the logo shifted from happy mac to question mark and back. Is my HD toast? I know the comp is totally doomed and will be getting a new MBP when they come out (if they come out...), but I had wanted to keep the Powerbook in order to do a firewire transfer of files to the new MBP I get. Can this be fixed? Can the HD be mounted in an enclosure?

What's the consensus on the MacBook keyboard in terms of ease & comfort of use? I write for a living so a good keyboard is pretty essential. I've always been mostly satisfied with my powerbook keyboard, it's pretty comfortable although I occasionally mash a neighbouring button with my big clumsy fingers. The MacBook keyboard looks a little... weird. How is it?
So I recently upgraded my PBG4 1Ghz TiBook from 10.3 to 10.5, and I've had a bunch of problems crop up.
1. Network issues. As part of the upgrade, my Airport Extreme and Airport Express were updated too. Now Airport Utility doesn't see my AEBS or my AEX half the time (or will see one but not the other) unless I plug in using the ethernet port. Also, signal strength seems to have degraded considerably. I'm typing this with about 6 feet between my computer and my base station, and I only have three of four bars. At my couch, I used to receive four bars, but now only two. Previously, I was able to roam my house without dropping below the full four in any location.
2. Embedded videos. Gone. Can no longer see video streams on news sites, youtube videos embedded in web pages, and the like.
3. iPhoto. Dead. Do I need to purchase iLife separately? I thought this was included with previous versions of OS X?
4. Laptop speakers. Dead. iTunes plays music, but only the occasional crackle emerges from the speakers.
5. Time Machine. Doesn't work with my external HD.
Which one? (i believe the Aluminium Powerbooks and the MacBook Pros are using the SAME keyboard, so which one you like best? my girlfriend had an ibook and the keyboard was "alright", better than ALL the PC keyboards out there, but i had an AlPowebook and that keyboard was BLISS!! i currently own a Blackbook and i REALLY dig the keyboard, but the powerbook's keyboard was by far the coolest/easiest/most confortable keyboard EVER.

If you pull the keys off, You can see the soda marks, I know with desktop keyboards, you can clean this and it would be fine, however, this has the keys that light up, so I do not know. What should I do besides pay $250 for a new keyboard from Apple?

It seemed like it had just died pretty much. Today, on a whim, I decided to try a disc in the drive, and it works! Apple repair had given it up for dead, so why do you think it came back?

But it is a different message than when my bluetooth on phone is off. I have a HTC Touch Pro, Alltel (CDMA). The reason I use bluetooth is because I don't know how to use USB tethering (which would be nice as bt makes my phone quite hot). Anyways, If anyone can help with either problem, it will be GREATLY appreciated. I am currently posting this on my phone, as I have a 10hr car ride and no comp.
View 1 Replies View Relatedall the normal keys on my mac keyboard worked fine on friday when at work and i come in today and they are all messed up. how do i get them back to there defaults? Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. I am using the bluetooth keyboard and running snow leapord.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHey guys, i got an old Powerbook that the whole family use to surf the net. I notice its been super slow lately. Ive never had a problem with this notebook, I've only done 2 reinstall in the time ive owned it. I recentluy did another one, and notice its still slow, loading websites is slow, cant watch movies on it. This is a notebook i use to do photoshop and illustrator work on.
Do you think its just its time? I think it could be the hard drive or memory, is there any type of diagnostic i can do to find out what the problem is?
My friend just got a 1.25GHz MDD but he says he is having problems with it. He says that when he starts it up, his mouse light (sensor) flickers and the keyboard does not work. The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.
So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I can't seem to find instructions on the Apple Support site on how to remove the keyboard from a 12" Powerbook.
Can someone here explain to me how to remove it? One of the keys is sticky, so I'm hoping that I can just pop off that key and clean it. And I guess I should ask what the safest way of popping out a key is .. don't want to break anything!
I just acquired a 1 GHz 15" Powerbook Ti. It is in good cosmetic condition except for a few dark marks from the keyboard on the screen. I can feel them with a fingernail, so I know they are residue from the keys. Is there any way these can be removed without damaging the screen? I have had very good results using toothpaste and a damp cloth on other surfaces, but I am leery of using even a very mild abrasive on the screen. I have even used newsprint on some sensitive surfaces with good results but if you make an error on the screen, it is either permanent or expensive. I suppose I could try in a corner but I know there are anti-glare coatings on the screens and I could make things worse. This is most noticeable when there is a light-colored area displayed right under the marks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm yet to figure out a pattern, but my Macbook Pro's keyboard will just stop working for several minutes at a time at random points in time...Even if I hit caps or num lock, they don't turn green. Sometimes it'll just happen once every few hours, but I was in class the other day and it would work for a minute, then not work for a few, than work for another minute, etc.

I recently spilled a protein shake over my mb pro. It spilled on the right side, but I quickly cleaned it with a wet tissue and dried it up. The problem, now, is that the illuminated keyboard isn't working..only a few random keys are working and the rest aren't..

I just got a generic usb keyboard to use with my mbp as schoolwork is taking its toll on the keys and I wouldn't mind preserving it a little better. This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal
I have a 2005 Powerbook and it does not turn on. The power charger when plugged in is solid green but the battery is empty.The power charger remains green even when I take the battery out and plug it directly to the wall outlet.I also have a replacement battery that is fully charged but it still does not power on.
