View 6 RepliesIs it possible to use a G4 PowerBook (3 years old) charger on a 7 year old G3 iBook? Or will the higher power PB charger blow the iBook up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Powerbook G4 only turns on if the battery charger is plugged in, and if I unplug it, the computer shuts off. On the menu bar, it says charging. I know the battery has to be full. This just started happening last night. Also, I just had the hard drive replaced and I've only had it back for a couple weeks.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy charger has died an uncomfortable death (burned itself due to a short in the cable). I'm looking at getting a replacement, and bought one on ebay which turned out not to be as described and didn't work properly, so it has been returned. I'm looking at this one, and the seller tells me it's a 65w charger, but there should be no problem with it, despite the PB being rated for a 45w charger. Anyway, the question is, will this charger work with my 12" PowerBook, or do I have to keep looking? I'm trying to conserve power now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI found a charger that fits my ibook but its 20v 3.3A and 70 Watts. Do you think this would work? Thanks in advance for the answer
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've had the iBook for almost 3 years now and the charger seems to flick on and off. Sometimes I'll have to rotate the plug or twist the cord in a certain way in order to get the charge going.
Obviously, I'm past my free 1 year coverage by Apple so I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if this is an issue with the charger or the laptop.
The charger shows no wear and tear, the cord and all the pieces are still intact, nothing has fallen off or come apart.
Are there any tests I can run to see where the problem lies?
does anyone know where i can find a charger for an iBook G3??? This is kind of an emergency, my macally charger won't charge the ibook anymore and my imac is at the genius bar for the 4 days . I'm on my second Macally charger , so any brand besides macally would be fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe charger for my ibook just decided to die, It has not worked like it should lately because it's beginning to break around the area where it connects to the mac.
Anyways.. when it died i noticed a tiny bit of smoke coming from either the charger or the ibook. Will things be ok again if i just buy a new charger or is the thing inside the computer fried?
I bought an iBook G3 (all white_ from someone and the charger if messed up and will not work. It will work once in a blue moon and turn orange for half an hour. As such, no iBook usage except for ten minutes X_X. I would really like to get a new charger so I can give to my mum. if those new things they sell in CompUSA for mac laptops will work?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm wondering if anyone has an extra ibook charger that i could purchase. i have the last g3 ibook series made (900 mhz). if anyone has an extra keyboard for that same model i would also be interested!
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy iBook charger broke, and I need a new one, but I am wee bitty confused.
Is it a 45W or a 65W I need?
It's a G3 iBook, 14", 900MHz
I bought a G4 14" iBook yesterday from Ebay but unfortunately the cable just after the charger plug is so baddly frayed that the light and power flickers on and off all the time. This makes it almost unusable. It is so close to the plug that it is not possible to repair the break.
I am wonder if anyone has a broken PSU(charger) that still has a good working plug that they would be willing to sell/donate to me.I would only require the plug and a few inches of the cable (so will be cheap to post). This way I can cut the plug of mine and join it with a working one. I am asking this as apposed to merely buying a new one as I am a student and already need to buy a new battery, ram upgrade and Airport Extreme card.
I bought a new charger for my powerbook g4 a few weeks ago but recently the tip of the charger has been getting very very hot when i take it out (burns my skin to touch)
I just had the main logic board replaced on my powerbook G4 by Apple and the fans always seem to come on now.
I am running 10.5.5 Leopard with all updates etc
I have an snow iBook G3 that I use everyday as my machine for doing schoolwork etc., so it is a very critical machine. The battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, so I just plug it in. No big deal. However, just a few hours ago the iBook started to not recognize it was plugged in. The prong has always been bent a bit, I think, and it always worked (before MagSafe type). The charger is beat up at the cord going into the power brick from the wall outlet, but it has always worked too and it seems to be a problem with the prong going into the computer. I have to hold it a very certain way for it to even detect power. So, the machine has NO way to get any power. I was thinking about taking it in to the Apple store to see if they could still get me a non-magsafe charger, but what if its something different then the charger?
The specs are as follows:
12 inch iBook
PowerPC G3
500 mhz
128 gb RAM
I have a Vista laptop I can use until its fixed, but I'd rather not use Windows. No speical prgrams or anything, I just really like Mac OSX. I have files on the iBook, too.
I've still got my old PBG4 around after upgrading to my new MBP.
The wattage rating on my old adapter is actually higher than my new MBP, 65W for the old one vs. 60W on the new.
But the plug is different. Does anyone make an old-style PB round DC plug>magsafe adapter so that I can use the old charger with the new laptop?
Since these things are like $80 it'd be nice to just keep using the old one or at least have it as a spare. It's not that I really need one but if I could buy an adapter it would be convenient.
I have two ac charger cords for my PB - the one it came with and a backup. My battery is about three months old and seems to be very healthy. The problem is that the cord arbitrarily stops charging (thought it was the cord, used the backup - same thing happens). The light on the cord where it plugs in to the computer goes off and I must unplug it from the power source and replug for it to start charging again, which it always does. I thought it was the outlet on the surge protector, so I switched outlets. No improvement. I thought then that it might be the surge protector itself, so I plugged it directly into another outlet, to no avail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy iBook charger has stopped working, the iBook is well out of warranty by now, and i cant find any replacement chargers for it. Instead of just buying another one, will apple replace my current one? It was sparking on the cable that plugs into the computer and it looks like its been burnt, which is probobly why it doesn't work anymore, is this a defect with apples chargers and will they replace it even though my iBook is out of warranty?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an old G3 iBook 500 and it was fine last week but I didnt use it for a week (it has 10.2.8 and 9.2) but now I went to use it and the battery was on its last dot and it was sleeping. I tried to charge it and the light never came on the charger and its not charging. Now its dead cuz the battery went flat. its not the original charger its the newer square
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" PB with a couple of growing issues. Right now I am unable to use it for one of several reasons. About a year ago I purchased a charger off of Ebay to replace the original one that started sparking. Shortly after I received the new charger I started having issues with the charger connecting. I would have to twist it and turn it to find the right spot. Now, it doesn't glow green or amber at all. That sweet spot is completely gone. Also, the battery is completely dead. It needs to be replaced. Not sure at this point if I'm sitting on a dead charger or if I need to replace the DC-In board. I have never had a major accident with the machine but I do recall snagging the chord once or twice. It is possible something was damaged inside when that happened. I've never had an issue like this so I'm not too sure about the symptoms. I'm thinking a new charger would be the cheapest and safest start. I don't feel very confident purchasing one from Ebay again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to prevent the PB from going to sleep after the wall charger is unplugged when using the clamshell mode? I'm going to use my PB as a carputer and want it to run for awhile after I turn off the car..I know the PB will go to sleep when it loses power in clamshell mode..
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it better to keep the charger in after a completely charged or pull out the charger. Basically I'm wondering if the power is pulled from the UPS after the battery is completely charged or is it still constantly charging the battery.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook G4 1.5 w/ 1GB of RAM and the stock 80GB HD. I've run this puppy pretty hard for a couple of years now, and it's lately started to lag a bit - perfectly natural. I was considering buying a new notebook but I've decided to wait until after Leopard comes. So my question is:
1) How do I determine the max RAM I can put in this machine?
2) Are there are specific specs I need to be concerned with when swapping out the Hard Drive? Any type, size limitations, speed limitations, etc.
I'd love a little input as to how I find out this info. I think instead of taking the notebook plunge now, I'm going to put a nice new hard drive in this one and possibly bump up the RAM a little more if it will take it.
So is the is Powerbook G4 802.11g or b? it is the 1.25GHz model. Also, one thing I don't understand regarding the airport extreme or any airport for that matter: isn't the maximum speed going to be completely determined by how much the cable provider, Comcast, pumps out?
If this is the case, how do I determine what my transfers and speeds are looking like specifically for Comcast? And, how would an airport extreme improve upon this or any other performance aspect in this regard?
Powerbook G4 (Ti-book) 667 mhz, 512 mb RAM. I finally after YEARS upgraded my OS (10.4.10), yay me! Just bought Adobe CS3 (for the new IMAC we have yet to buy), but I would like to install it on my Powerbook. SO, it it time to bump up to 1GB RAM. I was told it was tricky, and I should take it in to the apple store to install, but then I took a look under the keyboard, and it looks pretty simple. i have installed new RAM on a G5 tower, and this looks way easier. So, I am planning on buying the RAM either online or at FRY's, then installing it. BUT, I know I have to be careful of what type of RAM to buy. I found what I think will be good at [URL] but I will have to buy 2 (512's) as mine currently has 2 (256). I guess I just want to make sure I am not going about this the wrong way before I drop about $200 for RAM upgrade...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 15' Powerbook G4 1.67, currently with 512 of ram....so i'm shopping for an upgrade, but not sure which specific type to go with. In my system profile it says i'm running..
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2700U-25330
And these are the types i've been seeing to choose from.
G4 15-inch 1.67GHz (DDR M9676LL/A) Memory
G4 15-inch 1.67GHz (DDR M9677LL/A) Memory
G4 15-inch 1.67GHz Double Layer DDR2 (M9969LL/A) Memory
I just bought a used 12" powerbook G4 1.5ghz and I want to add some ram to max it at 1.25Gb. Did anyone try to use ddr400 instead of ddr333 on powerbooks? In theory it will run at 333 like in any pc, but is this flawless in powerbooks? Because ddr333 is expensive nowadays.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know the powerbook is rather archaic now, but I'm trying to get a new Macbook and don't want to throw my old powerbook away. So.. I have a friend who wants to buy my old G4 Powerbook with 60GB capacity, 512 MB memory, 1.33 GHz cpu speed. It's extremely worn in, meaning, it won't last more than 20 minutes off the power cord, but someone could always replace that. So what would be a fair price to charge someone to take it off my hands?
