I couldn't find these original discs when I sold my old iBook SE (on ebay)... so naturally, I run across them a couple weeks later.
Does anybody need a set of original install CD's (including Hardware Test CD) for an iBookSE?
It's OS 9.0.4 Software Restore, Software Install, Apple Hardware Test
I'll hold them for a few days if someone wants them... if not, they go in the trash.
Will the restore and AHT discs from a 1.2 GHz 12" iBook work in a 1 GHz 12" iBook? All I am interested in is the AHT.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought the new 24" iMac and I looked at the backup discs and they said it could install OSX Tiger. I also have an old iBook G4 I got my moms friend who moved. I know the iBook could handle 10.4 as it has 10.3.9 now but what I was wondering was. If I could install the OS on the iBook from the iMac backup discs. I but the disc in the iBook and it wanted me to restart to begin the installation of OSX but I quickly backed out. Do you guys think If I proceed with the installation it will install smoothly or, should I just forget about it.

I called Apple to get new system discs, and they sent me an OSX 10.5.6 Retail Install DVD to install on the iBook, but this doesn't include iLife.
Obviously it's not the end of the world if I don't include iLife (even if it is iLife 05), but I think it would help me sell the iBook if iLife was included.
Anyone know where I can find the right part number for my iMacs restore discs so I can order new or get the right ones off eBay?

I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

I have about 2 weeks to decide whether I want apple care on my ibook G4 14" 1.42. It'll run me just under $300 (CDN). Thing is, with all the new improvements out there, is it even worth it for me to buy it? Like, if my laptop broke, I was thinking of just wanna splurging on a new macbook (not that it wouldn't hurt the wallat of course.
Another major point, the laptop from what I've noticed on ebay is only actually worth like $900. So I'm paying 1/3 of the value for apple care (since all the new upgrades have depreciated my laptop).

I just want to see what temps the fans turn on around, and stuff.
I'm curious - I've taken my ibook apart and replaced hardware that had broken, I have TONS of screws... Can anyone direct me to a diagram, etc. that will inform me of ESSENTIAL screws, if those even exist.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded what I assume is the correct AHT image (iBook Version 1.2.4 [URL]) from Apple Support. After burning it to a CD, using disk Utility, it fails to boot on my late 2004 14" G4 1.33ghz IBook M9627B/A.
Am I doing something wrong or is there another version of AHT that is available as a download that will work?
While taking apart ibook to replace harddrive on grapghite 466 , I ran into trouble. In taking out the backlight cable, the whole plastic receptor (little white plasatic at J4) on the motherboard came off as well. This is a little part (1/4 x 1/8inch). I can't tell if it was soldered on or just slips on the motheboard since tiny bits of plastic broke off. Can someone tell me if/how this can be repaired.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iBook (running OS X Tiger) which is wirelessly connected to a home network via a wireless router. On this network I have a Windows PC to which a HP Laserjet 1010 is connected via USB. I would like to be able to share this printer on the Windows PC so that I can print from the iBook.I have set file and print sharing options on the Windows PC. I have then added a new printer in OS X over 'Windows Printing'. OS X sees the printer and allows me to add it after puting in a username and password (I used the 'Guest' username). However when I try and print from the iBook the printer initialises and then procedes to print "%!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1 %%..." and then lots of random letters. I thought that this looked like the iBook wasn't using the right drivers and after checking it appears it is using Generic Printer drivers.

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I place a disc in the drive it spits it out. No matter what disc. I've tried restarting but that didn't work. Just bought this 27" iMac about 2 years ago. I cost me around 2 grand with tax and some stuff the salesmen sold me to go with it like MIcrosoft office. If the drive broke after only 2 years (and I've only used it maybe 10 times in all that time) then I will prob be asking for my money back. I already know that apple will charge me out the @$$ to get it fixed if the drive is broke. I am just hoping that there is something going on software wise that can be fixed. Please help if you have any information reguarding this issue. This is a problem that is holding me back from doing work (a client sent me information via cd) So I am loosing money every day that I do not have my drive working.

Ever since installing Leopard, I've noticed it is having problems consistently mounting discs, specifically my external USB drive (for Time Machine). Sometimes I plug it in and it shows up as a disc on my desktop (and viewable within Finder and by Time Machine); other times I'll plug it in an it doesn't show up any where (even after restarting OSX).
Not sure this is related, but I also noticed that a .dmg file I downloaded failed to mount (just got an error message). This time, when I restarted OSX when I tried launching it again, it worked.
I have bought a used Macbook Intel 2.2Ghz 250Gb with 2GB RAM running Snow Leopard. It didn't come with system discs. I have a similar Macbook with a 160Gb HD running 10.5,8 and I have swapped the HDs over. Both machines are running fine. I now wish to reinstall 10.5 on the 160GB HD but when I use my original 10.5.6 system discs it says that OSX cannot be run on this machine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got off the phone with Apple support and I was told I should bring in my iMac to an apple store to get it checked out. However, I am EXTREMELY busy. So in the meantime I was wondering if anyone could help fix this issue: I have a brand new iMac literally purchased a month ago, 21.5", when I insert a disc it keeps it for about three seconds and pops it right out, the disc does not even register with my computer. Is there anyway to fix this without having to go all the way to the Apple store (I don't own a car).
