PowerPC :: Icons / Menus Have Clear Alternating Blocks In Graphics

The background for my desktop and most windows look normal. My icons, some dropdown menus, video and all games big or small have clear alternating blocks in the graphics. I have reinstalled Mac OSX 10.4 (didn't work). Then I upgraded to 10.4.8 (didn't work). Downloaded drivers for my ATi Radeon 9600(didn't work). I bought IMac G5 in 2005 mid june and serial numbers dont fall in the series for free repair. [URL] and picture number 2, [URl].

nvidia mx5000 standard graphics card Here is the issueWhen I boot and press "option" to select a hard drive or disk everything looks finebut when I load into either the OS or a OS install disk there are long light green lines going from the apple all the way to the right end of the screen in a straight line.And when it boots most dark colors look fine , but in white boxes and at the top menu bar there are either long light green lines or very small to large green blocks , they are translucent but they are there.I have done everything I can think of.Ive re installed the os, re seated the graphics cardre seated all the ram. just installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook.She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.
I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect.
I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.

The display on the Mac computer at my work has been changed so that all the icons are very tiny, the fonts are very large, and when I move the mouse, the entire screen moves so that most of the time a part of the screen is hidden and I have to jiggle the mouse around to read everything - I'm not scrolling, it just automatically does it without me clicking. I am not really familiar with Macs but I do know how to get to system preferences, and I can't think what option might make the screen do that. It really makes the computer harder to use - does anyone know what it is? I also didn't see where I could make the icons bigger or smaller, it doesn't seem like the Desktop/Display really does it.

I recently took my macbook in to an Apple Store and was told my hard drive may be gone. Before I took it in it was working fine except for the Mail, I was unable to send mail. Now when I try and turn computer on an alternating folder with a ? mark keeps on toggling off and on on screen.

My activity monitor says I'm suing 122.43 GB of virtual memory. I'm sure that the number is much, much less. But I would still like to reset the virtual memory.
Are there any terminal commands to rest the vm?

There used to be a way in 10.5 via some hidden preference to remove the alternating row colors in list view. I have a feeling that this hidden feature been eliminated... can anyone confirm?

On the screen of my powerbook is a flashing question mark alternating with a face.my powerbook is unusable. In disk utility on my installation disk my hard drive does not appear in the window there and the repair disk tab is dimmed.
Would that indicate that my hard drive is kaput?

I posted this on the buyers guide forum but got no response. Maybe you guys can help.
I have a G5 dual 2.0 with 5.5 GB ram and an ATI Radeon 9600 pro graphics card.
I have been running Final Cut Studio with no problems. Once I upgraded to FCS 2, it seems to drag with some of the new fetures. Motion 3 seems really slow! So I added 2 more gigs of ram to bring it up to the 5.5.
I am waiting for the new MP like so many of you, but I will keep this computer for off line editing and compressor and for a part time assistant editor to use.
Would it be worth it for me to upgrade the graphics card?
If so what would be a good choice of card for this type of work.
FYI the last computer game I played was Zork, so I don't care about gaming.

I had recently purchased a 2nd hand G5 PowerMac with dual 1.8GHz processors and PCI-X slots. I think it was released in November 2003. It's a great machine, but suffers from its lacklustre 64MB graphics card. My Mac man told me not to bother, but I would like to investigate the option further. What do you think is available and where would I obtain one of these things? Oh, I should also ask the most important question...is it worth it?

Well I was swapping some processors around on my G5 when I noticed that I was getting some weird graphical glitches. They went away when I disabled the 3-4 CPUs and made it a dual-core. The glitches are replicable when sizing windows and consistent when different window sizes. I'm starting to wonder if one of my CPUs are faulty...? Everything seems to be running fine otherwise. I attached a pic of the graphic anomaly I'm getting with all 4 core active and it only appears around text and it's always red color.
On a side note I also noticed that 2 of my dimm slots are reporting errors, the two outer banks. I've removed them and it's fine. Gonna load up the diagnostic discs to see if it finds anything.

Really wanted to update my Powermac this year to a MacPro but as I'm getting married it's going to be an expensive year so I've decided to upgrade the G5 2.0 DP I already have.At the moment the kit I have is pretty good in that I have 1.5 gig of memory and 250gig of hard drive space but I'm open to suggestions.The G5 I have is the PCI version so I'm a bit limited as to what I can upgrade but the main area I'm looking at is with the graphics card. I had BTO the ATI 9650 256meg card but I'm looking for something better. I've just started to get into "World Of Warcraft" and would like the best graphics card that is value for money.

Recently my iBook's graphics have been acting up. Usually within the first three minutes I turn it on the graphics will completely mess up and a strange random design with appear on the screen flashing different designs and so forth.

I brought my iBook G4 to school today, and it sent the whole time in my backpack. When I got home, I turned it on, and it started booting up, but when the screen came on, it was only gray. I opened it, and saw that the lcd was still plugged in, so what could this be? Can the 32mb vram iBooks get the graphics problem?

Why is it that an Imac G5 doesn't perform nearly as well as even the Core duos in terms of FPS?Why is it that the PPC artictechture seems to not be able to run games as well, even with a comparably speced graphics card?I can't really seem to formulate my question:Let's pretend we have two computers that are exactly the same speed. (Yes I know Intel macs are way faster than PPC)WHY oh why would the PPC computer do terribly compared to the Intel?

My hard drive on my old B&W finally crashed the other day. I got a new hard drive for it a few days ago. I upgraded the graphics card from a rage 128 to a radeon 7000 sometime ago. Do I need to put the old rage 128 in when I reinstall OS 10.3? Or is it ok to install it with the Radeon 7000 in it?

I'm looking on cragslist right now for an older powermac to use as a media hub and I think I found one. It appears to be an AGP G4 PowerMac (500Mhz-ish). All this talk of 8800GT's on the Mac Pros is putting me in the mood for upgrading the 64mb ATI 9600 in my stock PM g5 dual 2 GHz.I have an old Formac Oxygen ADC monitor (used as one screen of my dual head system) but the ADC connector on the graphics card seems to be dead, and everytime I plug the monitor in to the port, the Mac just keeps 'tripping' out and won't power up - almost like something is shorting out.As a result, I'm stuck to using just the DVI port (1 screen is so limiting after being used to 2!!), connected to an ancient VGA monitor. I really miss having a dual screen set-up, and this is another reason why I would like to upgrade the card. would be good to still be able to use my ADC monitor, but I guess only the older, low spec cards had these, and I'm probably gonna have to ditch the monitor and get a couple of DVI screens.

My 3 yr old IMac G5 (no isight) seems to be real sluggish in graphics dept. I never used to have problems watching hulu videos, now they stutter. When I play warcraft, the game struggles to keep up if I'm in an area where there is lots of players. Would a new graphics card help? Is it replaceable on my IMac model?

I have a 1.33ghz 1.28gb ram 14" ibook. I have leopard on it and have optimized it as much as possible. Ive got youtube videos running pretty smoothly but there in an online TV service I use that drops a frame every couple of seconds. I was wondering if i overclocked the graphics card by 10% will in slightly improve the playback of flash?

I need a new/best card for a G5 quad 2.5. I know it's old (4 years) but it's still used quite a bit - mainly for Photoshop work. The card needs to run 2 x 23" Cinema Displays. I'm not sure if it makes any difference but it has 16GB memory (twice as much as our new 2.93 Quad can take - there's something not quite right there...)

A recently acquired hard drive - a basically new drive - appears to have been causing my mbp to shut down randomly (different drive and the problem goes away). I ran a surface scan on it using tech tool pro 5 and found just one bad sector on the drive.
I zeroed the drive using the binary 0000 pattern option in tech tool (1 pass) and ran the surface scan again and this time the surface scan gets the all clear. Should I be worried about the drive? Is it likely to cause the same shut downs on my mbp? I know the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I tell ya, installing a hard drive on the mbp is time consuming!!

After packing away my little brothers sawtooth 400Mhz with 384mb RAM and an 8Mb ATI AGP graphics card and then unpacking it I've been having a problem. When starting the computer up the screen shows nothing at all I have tested to see if the screen is broken and it seems to be functional. I think the card itself might be broken? BTW, I'm using the VGA slot and not the DVI slot on the back. I have also removed and cleaned the card just incase that might've been the problem.

So my mom's G5 (single 1.8) graphics card just pooped out on us.
Lot's of multi-colored lines show up on the screen at the same time and it never boots into OS X. Ran the CD Apple hardware test and the only error i got back was the video memory. So we're thinking about getting a new video card.
It has the factory card still in it and I can't really decide what kind of card needs to be purchased. I've been hunting around the internet and have found numerous conclusions that all seem to differ.
It's basically an AGP 8x slot. We don't need anything fancy just a replacement. There's an auction on ebay right now for the current card (nVidia GeForce FX 5200) but the auction has two in it and we only need one.
but anyway, if anyone could lead me in the right direction i'd really love to get my mom's mac up and running again.
