PowerPC :: IBook Will Not Connect To WiFi?
Mar 8, 2008my teacher asked me to help him with a wireless internet problem. (I'm the only one who knows anything about Macs.) His iBook used to be able to connect to the school's wireless, but up until the techie "changed something with the wireless" he hasn't be able to get on. The iBook is the dual-USB version 700 MHZ G3 with 10.3.9 installed. He states that it will connect at other places, like his house or coffee shops. I don't know what could be wrong. I'm guessing it has something to do with a different kind of WiFi signal. The iBook gen he owns has 802.11b.

Oct 21, 2008I'm a college student and I live on campus during the school year. When I'm at home, I can connect to the internet just fine. Anywhere I go, I don't have a problem. But starting this year, I cannot connect to the Internet on campus. I live in the on-campus apartments and I cannot connect to the residential network there using ethernet. We have a wireless router in our apartment and that won't work for me either. At best, I can sign into the residential network using my school account and I can get on one or two websites before "Safari cannot find server".

Aug 8, 2010I have been using my ibook g4 to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. I have an ethernet cord connecting the two together. just recently, after doing this for months, my ibook will randomly disconnect from the internet. the computer's wifi signals say it's connected but nothing works including ichat, and safari. the internet on xbox also stops. i try resetting my computer and unplugging the ethernet, and the only thing that works is resetting our router.

It's the last-gen AirPort Extreme base station (domey type with a modem) and I've successfully used our wireless security in the past. We use WPA/WPA2 Personal with a 40 character password. The iBook has worked before with this configuration, and it works when there is no security set up, but even though our town is filled with computer illiterates and there are only 2,000 of them, I'd like security.

Jan 25, 2010I have been a mac user since 2006. Yesterday, I purchased an iBook G4 for my father, who I have converted from Windows to Macintosh. We are 99% satisfied. Everything works great except the wireless internet. Whenever the computer shuts off or goes to sleep, we have a difficult time re-connecting to the wireless internet. After five minutes of clicking on the wireless signal (at the top of the screen) and turning it on and off, we are able to get on. Once we connect, it does not seem to disconnect.

Oct 27, 2007I had bought an iBook G4 back in July of 2005 and that ended up being my main machine for about a year. I had to switch back to Windows since so much software that I needed only ran on Windows and it just made more sense. Just this past February I replaced that machine since it was having some serious issues and wasn't worth the time or money to troubleshoot. The machine I have now has an Athlon64 x2 4200+, 1GB RAM, a 320GB hard disk, the standard DVD writer, and I installed a GeForce 7600GT 256MB video card in it. The iBook has a 1.2GHz G4, 1.25GB RAM, a 60GB hard disk, and a combo drive. I have a 160GB external hard disk and a DVD writer to hook up to it.

Feb 26, 2010I bought a G3 Clamshell Ibook today and I don't know how to connect to the net with it. So I did some reseach (btw I know nothing about Mac's nothing at all. This is my first one!!) and there is something about an Airport card. So my question is how do I check to see if my computer has it. If it does then how do I access the net.
If not, please, please tell me there is another way to get wireless on the thing cause I don't think I can install a wireless card on a computer. I would not even know where to begin.

Aug 16, 2010my Ibook sees the network, but refuses the password, same for my husbands iphone, although my iphone still connects.tried relaunching the airport twice, no change.
tried changing airport settings, no change even triend to make it open network, no possibility to connectit seems that my ibook doesn't save the changes...
and even when putting everything back as it was, it still refuses my password to connect to the airport.

Jan 18, 2009I just hooked up a Dell monitor to my MacBook. I will be using it in clamshell mode 98% of the time. I have the MB on the right side of the monitor. I want to drag applications back and forth between screens. Currently, I have to drag off the left side of the external. How do I drag off the right side of the external and onto the left of the MB? I don't want the MB on the left of the external on my desk. Make sense? When using both screens, how do I get the dock on my external rather than on the MB?

Jun 16, 2010I have an external display for my MacBook Pro, and I'd like to run some short tutorial videos on the external display while I use my MacBook to take notes, recreate lessons, etc. The problem is that every time I click a new video to watch it, it opens on the MacBook display, which means I have to then drag the video over to the secondary display.
Is there any way to tell Quicktime to open the videos on the secondary display without resetting my monitor options? (I'd like my MacBook display to stay as the primary monitor.) I know I could just take notes on the secondary display, but the MacBook screen is a) connected to my keyboard (not a big fan of my non-MacBook keyboard. I like to call it my Windows gaming keyboard because that's all it's there for) so it's easier to use and b) it just looks better.
IMac :: Desktop Won't Connect To Internet?
Nov 13, 2010Daughters imac desktop upstairs has always had a weak connection (takes a few times to get started) but has been used this way for 3 years.
Of late she cannot get connected unless she brings it down to next to the router, and often dosen't work unless she plugs in the ethernet cable.

May 1, 2010I was planning to upgrade our family's computers to a new MBP 13 inch with a 320 HDD and a iMac 3.06 GHz base model.
I was going to do a the Apple financing of no interest for 18 months since the 13 inch MBP came out but after reading online that an iMac update may be out in the near future I am wondering if I should wait.
Would like advice on whether I should just buy the 2 computers now and not worry or should I wait for next iMac. We have five kids that are using the computers and iPhones/iPods and speed is what they want for web-based games. The iBook is fine for me doing Quicken, e-mail and normal stuff but is seizing up sometimes. Hard Drive space is biggest issue since iMac only has around 160 gig HDD.
Everything I have read I believe that these 2 computers will be fine. We hold computers for 5 years and so I am getting to end of life on the ones I have.
My wife has also been using a 2006 circa MacBook Pro 17 inch that I use for work and loves it. She thought the 13 inch MBP keyboard was smaller but I told her I believe they are the same.

I could get an external with more than one input (ie, usb and firewire)--does that work? Could i use a usb hub to connect the 2 computers to the HD, and set up different partitions?
And what of NAS? i do not want to set up a whole network (we already have one at my office, and i want this to be independent).

When connecting by Firewire and following the steps in Migration Assistant, I get no disks appearing on the destination machine, I get Cannot Connect error message, any ideas? Would Ethernet work better? The source machine will not burn DVDs so that option is out. Can I swap hard drives?
