PowerPC :: Putting OS 10.4 On IBook G3 Clamshell?

Dec 19, 2009

At my school, we have a 300MHz, 512MB RAM iBook G3 clamshell with OS 9 on it currently. It does not have FireWire and trying to use XPostFacto did not work to install. Me and my friend decided that we will try to just replace the current HD with one with Tiger already on it. We already cloned the drive with Carbon Copy Cloner from a Power Mac G3 we also have running. Drive is still sitting waiting for installation. Will this work to put Tiger on this machine? Just wanted to know before my friend and I take apart the laptop to install a HD that might not even work.

PowerPC :: Would I Be Nuts To Switch From A Newer Desktop PC To My Old IBook G4

Oct 27, 2007

I had bought an iBook G4 back in July of 2005 and that ended up being my main machine for about a year. I had to switch back to Windows since so much software that I needed only ran on Windows and it just made more sense. Just this past February I replaced that machine since it was having some serious issues and wasn't worth the time or money to troubleshoot. The machine I have now has an Athlon64 x2 4200+, 1GB RAM, a 320GB hard disk, the standard DVD writer, and I installed a GeForce 7600GT 256MB video card in it. The iBook has a 1.2GHz G4, 1.25GB RAM, a 60GB hard disk, and a combo drive. I have a 160GB external hard disk and a DVD writer to hook up to it.

PowerPC :: IBook With Tiger Creating Its Own Desktop Folders?

Sep 22, 2009

three times today, and once yesterday, my iBook with 10.4.11 has been acting odd. More than normal. On Safari, the downloads window pops up, and says "Desktop-X" has downloaded. A small blank white rectangle icon in the Download window shows, called "Desktop-X", so I clear it. I have things from Safari to download to the Desktop, but it's not there.I find it, but it's not a file. It's now an empty folder, and it's sitting in my Home folder. There are three of them. "Desktop-1, Desktop-2, Desktop-3"

OS X :: Getting Widgets On Desktop But Below Windows?

Aug 14, 2009

Today I figured out a cool thing that you can do in dashboard. when you click and hold on a widget, and hit the dashboard function key (F4 for me) you can then put it on the desktop. Very cool but you cant really open any windows without the widget covering them. My question is how can I get the widgets to stay under the windows?

Applications :: Adding Widgets To Desktop Spaces?

Feb 11, 2010

I was wondering if anybody had a solution to this problem which involves placing a widget onto a particular Space on the desktop, I have tried opening the widgets folder when Spaces is activated to add it to a particular space but it does not recognize it. I would have thought that a solution to this would be available, but having searched the internet for any 3rd party app or solution I have found it very difficult to get any answers. I just want something that that allows me to work on different Spaces without having a widget appear all the time, except in an allocated space on my desktop.....

Software :: Widgets, Desktop, Other Suddenly Disappears?

Feb 19, 2007

I have no idea what happened, but a lot of small stuff on my mac either disappeared or changed. I took my macbook off the charger after a nights charging, and I noticed: all my icons on my desktop were no longer there, my widgets were all gone, and all my programs gave me a setup up screen when I tried to use them. I'm not too upset because everything on the hard drive is still there, but still I'd like if anyone has a clue to as what the heck I did to cause this?

PowerPC :: Putting A B&W With G4 Upgrade To Use

Sep 19, 2010

My buddy just gave me a B/W PowerMac G3 with a Sonnet Tech G4 1GHz upgrade kit and OS X 10.4.10.

I've been wanting to setup a proxy to bypass the content filters on the WiFi networks I find on the road. For instance, I can't go to the iPhone Dev Team website with the network I'm currently on.

Do the parts exist to also turn it into a Gigabit +Draft N router? It would sure be nice to kill two birds with one stone.

I don't know anything about setting all of this up, how would I go about it?

I know this has probably been asked before but I have no idea how to formulate search terms to not get a ton of junk results, so please bare with me on this.

I have a PowerBook G4 with a 1.67GHz processor and DVI output and a retarded graphics card. I want to buy a Pismo and hotrod it as mentioned by The Apple Blog. Basically, I'm asking if I can pull the processor out of the G4 and drop it in the Pismo.

Also, if there's any site I can look up sockets and whatnot for these guys, let me know. MacTracker doesn't mention that stuff as far as I know.

PowerPC :: Putting Mac Pro (Intel) HD Into Power Mac G5 Without Reinstalling OS X?

May 17, 2009

I decided I wanted to use the 1TB HD that's in my brand new Mac Pro in my late 2005 Power Mac G5. I installed the HD and started up the Power Mac. I was planning to insert the OS X disk and have to reinstall the operating system.

But it booted up fine and seems to be working perfectly. I thought I would have needed to reinstall OS X since the hardware/specs are completely different (especially the processor Intel V PowerPC). I thought it would be having some kind of Mac Pro in Power Mac body freak-out!

Is that not the case? Can I go ahead and use this sucker without any dramas? I've read iMovie 09 isn't compatible with PowerPC. Will all the other system and iLife 09 software work OK?

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Swapping - IBook G3 And IBook G4

Oct 20, 2006

My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.

Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^

Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
