View 6 RepliesI have a single processor G5 1.8 running current version of Tiger 10.4.11. I take pictures on my Canon 1D ll and also on a Canon power shot pro 1. When I tried to copy files from my compact flash card to my G5, it corrupted most of the files. When I pull them up, half of the image is distorted or discolored. I am using a cheap non-powered USB 2.0 card reader attached to the high speed USB ports. I have tried all of the ports. My other devices, Keyboard, printer, scanner (all self powered) work fine on the USB ports. I can do the same hookup on my G4 Ibook and it works fine with no problems. I also tried importing directly from the camera into I-photo and had the same problem on the G5.
Information:
Mac OS X (10.4.10)
I've got two great compact flash readers, but one has firewire, and the other has the wrong usb connector... so they are stuck with the mac pro. Anyone has any idea of the fastest usb card reader? I'm not a fan of waiting for 4 gig cards to unload.. back to back.... Don't make me use my mbp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way that I can put a compact flash card (or any other memory card) in my PB 520c and use that as a boot device. I really wish I had a HD for it but one has a bad board and one has an incorrect pin layout.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTried zapping PRAM and resetting SMC. 3 different cards, 3 different readers with same non-read. Same readers are OK with SD. All 3 readers with all 3 cards read ok on PC. 1 out of 10 times Disk Util sees it, but can't repair. Tried to reformat with Disk Util - 'can't write last block'.

Is there a way to do it so that it is copied the same way I see it in iTunes (separate groups for different songs)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new 15" MacBookPro, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB memory and using OS X 10.9.4
I have a SanDisk Compact Flash disk with MXF files on it from my Canon XF 100.
I have had no problem importing the files onto my MacPro. using a Ultra Card reader with USB2
But now I am using a Transcen USB3 Card reader on my new MacBookPro and it does not recognize any of those same files to import.
I get the message, "No importable files selected."
The only difference I can see between the old MacPro and new MacBookPro is that when I select "Import Media" the CANON XF drive shows up as a DEVICE on the MacBookPro instead of a CAMERA like it does on the MacPro.
A friend of mine is having trouble playing flash videos on his 1.33 GHz PowerBook G4 (256MB of RAM). He has version 7 of flash player and is unable to upgrade to a newer version.

I've been reading, researching, etc like crazy on flashing PC video cards for mac. Cindori's Post: The Golden Guide to Flashing Graphic Cards [URL]. This guide is GOLDEN!! And Rew's post: Step by Step: How to flash a PC 4870 1 Gig Video Card for your 2006 Mac Pro (1,1) [URL]. Have been really helpful. Only my ATI Radeon HD 2600XT stock card in my 2008 mac pro, totally fried/died out. So I have zero video card (I'm using a PC laptop now). And the tutorials on how to flash a PC cards requires plugging in both the old card (using it while dumping the ROM) and new card. I was looking into buy a Sapphire 4870 1G and I don't want to pay the $300 and plus already used flashed cards on eBay. The 4870 are cheaper compared to the 5870 at $400 plus. I was wondering if anybody got to flashing the 4870 using just the one video card on a mac pro 2008 (3.1)? I need a good video card to do 3D modeling in Maya and Mudbox. But don't want to pay double the price, or lesser choice for 'apple' approved hardware?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought a NVIDIA 8800GTS, since I saw it was possible to flash the card (thread in these forums). So I got the same card and was all excited! Unfortuantely I do not own a PC but I hoped I could flash the card within my MacPro (early 2008). Too bad that the flash utility nvflash.exe has to be run in a DOS environment. After fighting for a while I want to post my findings and maybe somebody know the solution.
Standard Dos BootCD will work on the mac but the USB keyboard won't be recognized :/ After trying the Hiren's Boot cd - I could use the keyboard, but there was no way the Loader could mount a RAM disk - I guess the MacPro handles ram differently than the standard PC. All I wanted to do is to access the NTFS filesystem so I could save my original NVidia ROM. No success I tried the HP USB Flash utility which creates a bootable USB flash drive with DOS on it but the MacPro doesn't recognise the drive as a bootable disk :/ Tried the same with an iPod but no success neither. So all I want is to boot into Dos with my MacPro - have a "writeable" drive so I can save my rom with the nvflash.exe and flash the card with the new and EFI64 rom version (which can be also found within another thread). Any1 an idea ? I think I am at the end of my knowledge... A .dmg that can be used to restore a Bootable DOS FAT32 partition that can be modified via OS X would be the bomb.
I was able to try the new NVidia 3D-Shutter-Glasses on a PC, and I liked it.
It is something I dreamed off in my C64-days long time ago ;-)
I think about getting a MacPro and installing a flashed NVidia-Card with the connector for the shutter-remote. I hope to have the card running under OSX as a normal card and, when booting into Vista ( for games only), I then can enjoy the 3D-effect.
Now: is there a new generation Nvidia-card with the 3D-connector that will be flashable for OSX? That would be great news for me. I know the new Quattro-card has this connector also for OSX (?), but this thing is way off limits in terms of pricing.
Currently, I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive hooked up to my old MacBook which I'm trying to set up as a media server for the house (using Home Sharing). Â
In the meantime, I have no iTunes on my MacBook Air. Dragging out the external drive every time I want my own tunes is annoying. I don't have the flashdrive space to have my music locally.Â
However, I love the flash drive reader on my Macbook Air. Could I put a copy of my iTunes library on the flash drive, and just pop it in when I want to access iTunes?Â
I stuck a flash drive in the disk slot. Any ideas on retrieving it???

Is it possible to flash a PNY/nvidia gforce 6200 256m PCI video card? I have searched google endlessly and have found no information regarding it.
I have a G4 AGP. The video card works well but I would like to set up multiple monitors and I prefer not having to purchase a new video card if possible.
I have a two year old Mac Pro ( 2GB memory and 2GB RAM) which up until now has worked very well, extremely well really. Alas for some inexplicable reason it has decided to takes it's time coming out of the starting gate. It has gone from around 15 seconds to around 5 minutes. So far I have eliminated apps which I have not been using as well as a few startup items that I didn't really need.I have cleaned up my desktop so that there is only one Icon on it.
I have also de-fragged my startup drive.I have used Disk Utility which tells me that the disc is fine, and it seems to be working just fine when it is up and running. I have also unplugged my firewire and USB connections. I have run my cron scripts deleted all rotated log files and repaired disc permissions. Maybe I didn't need to, but heck, who knows, I am no expert. Maybe a reinstall may solve the problem or resetting the Pram may work. I don't really know for sure but I'll try anything just in case.
I have the flash mount Sonnet 2 in 1 Card Reader ATM but would like to add some USB ports but the card has to be flash mount.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am generally unimpressed with iLife 09 and I would like a refund, but I feel I also have to say a bit more. when connecting my Canon 820 IS, the photos get imported however when I select "Do not delete photos" iPhoto ignores this and deletes them from the camera. The database does not auto-compact even after removing imported photos - is of a monolithic size and is sucking the space from my time machine. As for the Places element - My preferences indicate this - we invented history and placenames - why on Earth would I want to see London, Arkansas as the first option - In fact I wager that millions-more people have seen London, England, UK than London, Arkansas. As for entering in the information for non-GPS chipped cameras - well that is simply a massive pain the in the hole. Your concept of event/location is hosed here. I want to mark on the map venues, in fact I can pinpoint on the map where something took place - but unless the god of Google maps has decided it exists, it seems everything taken within 20 miles of London, England, UK is in the same place. Canary Wharf was apparently in Hertfordshire. meh, I thought it's a beta and will oh hang on, no, it's a full product which cost me 85 quid.....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 15" Powerbook G4 that is about 4.5 years old. Last night the screen started to flash for about a second and then went to almost black. (there is a very very faint image remaining of the screen)... from surfing some forums, it sounds like this could have something to do with the backlight or the inverter (whatever that is?).
The powerbook seems to be working fine otherwise, I was able to connect it to my 30" (which was amusing) to archive all data off of it, so nothing was lost. Techtool diagnostics all ran fine (nothing in there to repair a display).
I suppose the basic question is if anyone knows much about what the problem is - and if its worth investigating repair vs just diving in and buying a new one...some additional info found on Apples boards, but still curious if anyone has opinions/insight towards the cost and trouble of this repair:My screen looks black, but I can see very faint graphics on it
Symptoms of this are a dark screen, but everything else seems to be running. If you get in close with a flashlight, you can usually see the image faintly.
Backlight
If your backlight isn't working, the inverter may be bad. Other parts that may be bad are the display or the logic board. If your backlight fails intermittently while moving the display, the problem is with the inverter cables. Otherwise it is impossible to test for damaged parts without replacing them one by one. If you are comfortable taking apart the display assembly, replace the display inverter first, then replace the LCD. If you are not comfortable with this, you can replace both parts at once by replacing the display assembly (which contains both components). If this still doesn't solve your problem, you need a new logic board.
I put my Leopard install DVD (DVD drive is down) onto a flash drive to install on my 12" PowerBook G4 1.5ghz but when it restarts it just boots back into Tiger. I attempted to reboot and hold option but the only boot choice is the HD. Even if I go to Preferences>Startup Disk there's no option to boot from the Flash Drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am insanely annoyed and disappointed with the way Apple shook me with the notification "This app cannot be run since the PowerPC is no longer supported."I was trying to take one of those tests which we run through a CD and a full length test is programmed in a Flash or alike program. How do I do that? This is has made me think of withdrawing from Apple instruments. It makes life harder day by day.Â

My son's G3 iMac with 8mb ATI Rage is dead slow on flash-based sites like Club Penguin. Would an eMac with it's G4 and 32mb Radeon be a good step up or is this still too old of a machine for these cutting edge web sites?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI found this forum through a google search, and wanted to put the word out. It seems choppy, laggy or otherwise unplayable youtube videos and other streams using Adobe Flash 9 or 10 on OS X 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 is a very common headache with no clear resolution other than, 'Your CPU is too slow".
It seems I may have found a suitable fix to allow flash videos (as poorly as adobe flash is coded for Linux and OS X platforms) to finally play on my old, but very much alive 12" PowerBook G4. I'm not talking HD videos in DVD glass pond-like quality, but I'm talking 1fps to an estimated 10-15fps with mp3 quality audio that doesn't stutter.
My specs as tested and functioning:
System: 1Ghz PowerPC G4 12" aluminum
Version: OS X 10.5.8 (originally came with 10.3.9)
Video: GeForce FX Go5200 32MB
Memory: 768MB DDR (upgraded from stock)
HDD: 160GB Western Digital (upgraded from stock)
ALL I had to do (not perfect, but very very noticeable improvement!) was right-click the video while it was playing, and choose the 'settings' menu for Adobe Flash player. From there, I simply unchecked the "Use Hardware Acceleration" on the Display tab, and bump the "Local Storage" tab slider bar up to 10MB.
If anyone else is or was experiencing this problem, please try this quick and easy work-around out and share your experiences. If we can get a few to confirm, I'd be happy to seed it on the google interwebs so others can find the information easily.
I have a 450mhz powermac g4 that I am using for a simple file server in my house. I was wondering if there are any pci cards that have mac drivers, that would work. In order to steam movies and stuff, the card probably has to support 802.11g.
