I found a PowerBook G4 in my closet, so I turned it on and was using it just fine, and then without warning it turned itself off. When I boot it up I can hear an internal fan running, and it keeps running the entire time the computer is turned on. I'm not sure which OS it's running. Do I need to replace the fan, or is it something worse?
View 2 RepliesI have my MacBook hooked up to a pair of external speakers (M-Audio AV40, for those interested) and I can hear a slight click when the computer hasn't played any sounds for a certain amount time (about 30s to a minute). My PowerBook G4 never did this, so it's not the speakers.

I've gotten it to boot up. Curiously, it describes itself as a powerbook!?
My 2011 MacBook Pro screen broke so it is now half a laptop and the battery was also removed. Whenever I plug it in, the light on the front starts flashing and then it turns on. Sometimes it shuts off before the chime plays. I was using it today for about 30 minutes, and then the power button menu appears in the screen (sleep/shutdown/restart options menu) and then a few seconds later it shuts off completely without me touching it. After that I started it back up, and when it got to the desktop, and then it turned off without no warning at all (the power options didn't even show up).
I already tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM and it seems like that didn't work.

My MAC powerbook was working fine yesterday! I shut it down last night and when I tried to boot it up this morning I get: the booting "sound" and the grey screen after which the screen turns to black and in the top left-hand corner

I know the battery has to be full. This just started happening last night. Also, I just had the hard drive replaced and I've only had it back for a couple weeks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've got a powerbook G4, thats 8 days past its warranty. Conveniently, it now won't turn on. It won't wont boot from CD. If I turn it on, I get a gray screen that usually just turns my computer back off, if thats not the case I get a screen that shows the finder icon and a question mark and then turns off.
All it will do is boot into open firmware mode. Currently the install disc is inside of it and I've tried booting the cd using "cd:, bxi" and "dir hd", and it can't open both. Does anyone know how to wipe the HD, and start the installer using firmware? Otherwise, I think I'll have to take out the harddrive and plug it into an external case and then wipe it.
my powerbook keeps going to sleep automatically! i'll be using it one moment, the next it just goes to sleep! it's a 15" powerbook g4 with the latest software updates. i just set it to 'never sleep' in energy saver. hopefully that keeps it from going to sleep all the time. but in the mean time, any one know anything about this prob and what to do?

1.- The imac turned off by it self.
2.- I tried to turned on pressing the turn on/off button and it did not do anything.
3.- I disconected the computer form the wall and wait for some minutes, and it did no do anything.
4.- After about 20 minutes i tried again and turned on by pessing the on and off button.
5.- The imac turned off again and disconected form the wall and conected to another electrical contact at the wall, adn it did not turned on. i wait for some minutes and turned on again, but after about five minutes it turned off again.
6.- I left the imac connected to the wall for a couple hours and i tried to turned onn by pessing the on/off button and it did not turned on.
7.- I left all night connected form the wall and tried to turn it on this morning and it did not turn on.
8.- This time, I only disconnected the imac cord form the back of the computer and left it for a couple of hours, then I concected and turned on
9.- All the times that the computer turned on it started like a restart and no announce or windows appear telling me about an error or something like that.
10.- One of the times I touched the computer at the back and felt it hot, not too hot, but I do not how normal is.
11.- I can feel some very, very little air at the back form the vent.
What do I hve to do? What kind of tests can I do to know if the computer's an is working ok?

The Mac Pro shuts down unexpectedly, and changed the RAM, graphics card, power supply but the problem is not over.
By taking away the power for a long time and switch it to two months without any troublelights stop after 5 days is powered down unexpectedly.

I have so far had a few instances of this phenomenon w/ my 15 mo. old Mac. First, when charging my Mac at night in off-mode, it will occasionally turn itself on at some point evidenced by the power-on when it's opened. Then,I have had one instance of a shut-down by itself during use. It restarted w/ no problem. Next, the computer turned itself on with the cover closed and the computer had been off all night. I heard it start up, so I am sure. I do have AppleCare if I need to take it in.

No warning at all, it just turns off as if I've pulled the battery out. I plug it into the mains and turn it back on and it says I have at least 30% battery left. Is my battery dying?
View 4 Replies View RelatedA couple of weeks ago, out of the blue, my Ibook 12" started turning off by itself.
At first it would turn on again, I was able to check the HD with the Disk Utility, which reported a fault in the HD. Then after a few times it wouldn't turn on anymore. I couldn't hear the chimes sound and the fan (or HD) would start running pretty fast.
My airport/wireless works fine most of the time, but sometimes when I close the lid, and reopen it, my airport will not turn back on. It turns on neither automatically nor through the preference pane. The button to turn airport on is clickable, but nothing happens.
I'm new to Macs, and I like them so far. But this is getting really annoying as the only way I've found to fix it is to restart the computer.
I recently bought a new Kensington Slimtype keyboard for my PowerMac G4 (dual 867mhz); it's running Leopard and everything other than this is working beautifully. For some reason, whenever it goes to sleep, it turns the brightness down to it's lowest setting - not a huge problem, I just turn it back up. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if they are, how did they rectify it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis baffles me in terms of GB's. I imported a legal DVD to burn off Mactheripper in GB that was 2.7. turning it into a VT file. I then used cinimitize 2.0 making them 3 files, 2 .mov files and 1 audio files. Turns out each segment at 40KB's, 30 segments in all. Then I import the .Mov files to Final Cut Express and when I convert the whole 2hr and 40 min movie out to a "quicktime file". After that I open up the new Final Cut Quicktime .Mov turns out to be 38GB's. I am turning it into hopefully a 30 min film, but I do not understand the math at all, and I simply dont get how a 2.4GB DVD turns into a 38GB Quicktime movie.

I will have nearly full, or fully battery and the computer will turn off, and will not turn back on unless I plug the charger in. If the charger is unplugged for 5 minutes, the computer completely shuts down. So basically I cannot use the computer unless it is plugged in. It is starting to become a pain because sometimes I need it when I am in a place without an outlet.

When I went to turn it off it quickly turned on again. It happens whether it is connected or not. I have tried a few things and this [URL] but nothing has worked. I bought this computer last December, so it's still under warranty. I cant reset the SMC because the computer does not remain turned off, when I shut it down it automatically turns on again. Also I did a hardware test, both the short and the long ones and it said that there where no problems. I am a college student and I can't afford another computer so I am a bit scared that this is going to damage it.

I have a late 2006 Macbook pro, it has problems turning on. If its cool it will turn on just fine. If its warm, you have to wait 15 minutes for the MBP to cool down. Is this a logic board issue? It seems so.
