My question is about the copy and paste functionality of the Mac while using Safari. For some work I do, I need to copy and paste website content to word documents (for example, in PC, I would select all, copy, and paste into Word). I can do the same thing with Safari and Pages, yet when I am on a site with drop-down menus and have selected the item from the menu and try 'select all, copy and paste' with Safari & Pages, it copies ALL drop down menu options. I only want it to copy the one I've selected. Also, this site allows me to enter free-form text in text boxes, but the select all/copy/paste doesnt pick up the text I've entered either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy mom bought this mac G4 from a guy and he didn't include a keyboard, so i've been using one of the keyboards we use for our PCs. On a PC simply holding down ctrl + C will copy and holding ctrl + V will paste. I can't do that with a mac. Is there anyway to copy and paste on this mac? I don't know if it's important or not but this mac is considered "vintage" as the guy at the mac store called it, meaning they cant get parts for it and we have to get a Tiger disk to upgrade it any.

My Macbook wont copy and paste anymore using the keyboard shortcuts or the menu options. When I go to copy something that is fine but when I paste it no matter how many characters I have pasted I get a one star character. For example if I copied this text. This is what I get below when I paste it. I don't think that i changed anything in my settings. My Macbook is only a little over a month old 2.4ghz 4 gigs ram OS 10.5.4.

Messing around on new MacPro Work Station and discovered the icon in system preferences is missing; now can't adjust mouse and keyboard. Using os 10.5.6. Have fixed this once before on old g4 but am having a mental block {old age? } on how to now? I think you go into usr>preferences>trash the keyboard & mouse prefs and it will return to sys. prefs. I am at work now so can't try it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm one of the $200 suckers who bought an iPhone. For my $100 "rebate" I bought the new USB AppleKeyboard. I'm typing on it now. But when I first plugged it into the USB port, I got an error message like this: "The USB port is drawing too much power and it will be disabled." This is the same port the computer's original keyboard was plugged into and it worked fine. Now it's dead. The port is one of two USB ports on the back of my (original) Cinema Display. It's still dead. The AppleKeyboard is plugged into the second USB port now, and it works fine. But I thought I'd alert someone at Apple that this happened. Further, I'd like my USB port back but cannot find anywhere in the help files how to re-enable it. Unless it's fried, of course. But then again, how could the keyboard fry the port?

I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

Cannot use the external keyboard's USB sockets anymore for mouse or printer. Warning says not enough power, use computer's plug. But there are none left. Tried to adjust power management.
No betterment. Can't boot from DiskWarrior CD anymore.
I received a new iMac about 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to know how long the battery is suppose to roughly last for the keyboard and magic mouse. When I installed iStat Pro widget, it showed the battery power for my mouse, but the keyboard has never showed up. My mouse has been steadily losing battery power and is now at 28%. However, bluetooth states the power to my keyboard is 100%. This doesn't seem correct.
One other thing I've noticed in the bluetooth menu, under devices, is that the keyboard is labeled as "Apple Wireless Keyboard", while the mouse is title's my name's mouse (I.e.: "Darkroom's Mouse"). This may just nothing, but I'm assuming it's another symptom of my keyboard not being fully read by the OS.
i went to the toilet juz now and left my macbook in the livin room and when i came back. all my function keys(expose, vol, brightness) settings were changed. i dunno why. I had to go to system preference to disable the "press Fn key to activate function" option then only it went back to normal where i din need to press the Fn key to activate expose etc... pls i wanna know y did the settings change by itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs the following possible, and if so which keys do I need to press at start up?
1) Install SSD drive into mac
2) Put the original HDD in my external USB drive dock
3) Boot from the original HDD which is in the USB dock
4) Go to disk utilities and format the SSD
5) Clone the HDD to SSD (carboncopycloner)
6) Reboot and d/c the HDD, leaving SSD in mac
I don't know if its possible to boot from the HDD if its in a USB dock. If it fails, I will hold C to boot from install DVD.
i locked my functions buttoms then i can't use them
View 1 Replies View Relatedi moved my iMac when it was on to avoid getting water on it - after that the text to speech is now enabled and I cannot seem to turn it off.
I have tried to change or reset it on the system preferences, speech ,text to speech but can't seem to change anything. There were no key functions assigned so I assigned Control z and tried turning on or off but to no effect.
Also the key board functions are changed. For example the volume (f12) activates the dashboard. When I hold the fn key down the functions are correct. I tried to reset the functions to default in system preferences - keyboard but nothing changes.
Nothing got wet - I think I must of hit some combination of keys to mess this up.
I've had my Magic Mouse since last thursday (29th Oct) and i've noticed the 2 finger swipe gesture no longer actually functions. I'm trying it in Safari (with history available to swipe through) and its definately enabled in the system preferences.
Instead of doing the swipe gesture it now just scrolls left and right. Its also not a case of positioning my fingers wrong as it used to work around 2 days ago and now it definitely no longer works.
I'm going to re-pair it a few times and replace the batteries but if it doesnt magically come back I will be replacing it.Just curious if anyone else who has had their magic mouse for this long has lost this gesture too?
I spilled alcohol on macbook keyboard, so I bought and just received a wireless keyboard which I paired with my computer, but the shortcuts at the top of my keyboard aren't doing what they should be doing. I went into system preferences and was able to change it so I can change the brightness, but from F7 to F12, where you are suppose to be able to change the song, play/pause, mute and turn the volume up and down, it does other things. I've tried adding an application to my keyboard shortcuts, added iTunes and then wrote "Volume Up" and set it to F12, and "Volume Down" and set it to F11, but it didn't work. Is there certain words I have to put for it to work?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro keyboard died, the only replacement I could find was the newer keyboard layout (where the Fn keys have different functions - such as volume has been moved etc). After a bit of filing etc to get it to fit, its all back together and looking/working fine, but I need to change the keyboard layout so the pictures on the keys do what they are supposed to (hope that makes sense?) i.e. on the old one volume up was F5, but on the new one volume up is F12.

View 12 Replies View RelatedGreetings -- I'm having trouble copying-and-pasting an image from a PDF. When I use Preview or Skim, I can select a region of a PDF and click "copy" and then paste that image into another program -- HOWEVER, the resolution of the pasted image seems to be fixed and not very good.
In Windows using Acrobat Reader, I would just zoom in and copy a region to get a higher-resolution copied image. However, no matter how I zoom in OS X I don't get higher-res copies.
I found a limited alternative, which is to use Previews 'grab' to select a region of the screen and copy as a tiff. This is essentially a 'print-screen' so that the resolution is as good as the current view. HOWEVER, this is rather limited and annoying because one needs to have the entire image able to fit on screen and because one has grab, then open the resulting file on the desktop, and THEN copy and paste from that new file.
Does anyone have tips on how to grab high res images off a pdf?
I have had my 15" macbook pro for about 6 months now. Amazing labtop...
Now i have learned almost all of the keyboard shortcuts and use them very frequently. The main ones I use are obviously + C followed by + V . However, recently my + C refuses to work! To copy something I have to manually go into the edit menu and select copy. Yet, all of my other keyboard shortcuts, including + V continue to work!
I don't understand. How do I fix this? Keep in mind, this has been going on for about a week so the computer has been turned on and off many times.
I have received a link via email, and i would like to copy and paste it to my desktop. I have a PC and have done this on that, but can't figure how to do that on my Mac.
I'm sure it's a very simple process, but I just can't get it.
As a complete newbie in the mac-world, I am faced with some challenges since everything is (fortunately) not identical to the windows world.
One that is driving me nuts is that I am unable to cut anything in almost all applications and folders. I know the shortcut is what-that-keys-name (ctrl in windows) + X, but it doesn't work, since it is always "greyed" out/inactive.
Could someone explain why that is? I should say that most, not all, of the files were copied over via an external HD from my old windows machine.
Unless I just can't find it, one of QT Pro's best features, the ability to cut/copy/paste among clips is gone. This was a very helpful way to edit and combine video clips.
