i need to reinstall Quicksilver into my MBP but the website is currently offering only the Beta to Quicksilver and the old version sub-page is out of order. Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain the last stable (non-beta) version of Quicksilver?

My usually stable 10 year old G4 hard drive (attached to VGA monitor) is having serious problems with it's starting up process, so I am presently nursing it along (without shutting down at the end of the day) by using sleep mode. If I shut it down, chances are it fails to power up again. When I press the power on button to startup, I hear the chime and the startup process as usual, then everything stops within seconds, before the monitor screen is due to come on. The two external devices attached are the keyboard with mouse, plus a USB hub. No recent upgrades or changes. Everything is backed up on an external firewire disk. Since this trouble started a few days ago I have replaced the lithum battery and managed to successfully start it up only once (after a number of attempts) so I can nurse it along. I have tried all the usual troublshooting - when I restart in either safe, verbose, or reboot off OSX CD, single user mode, extensions off, or try to reset the PRAM fails to chime twice - in every instance it won't get past the chime. Checking the system profiler 'power on self test' indicates 'failed', failure type is 'external cache'. As I can't reboot off the OSX10 or systemworks CD I can't run Diskwarrior on the operating system or reinstall the operating system. So, I am now at the limit of my capabilities.

Recently I didn't do my research, and I purchased a Quicksilver power supply to put on a Gigabit machine. I noticed it had four extra pins which look like some of the ones they use to power processors in some PCs (tho I've come to find this is for the ADC port). I dug a little deeper (Googled "powermac_g4.pdf") and found out that some of the pins have differences between the Gigabit PS and the Quicksilver PS.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? Will the PS work without any wirecutting or do I need to get a new one?
My PowerMac G4 has an issue that has developed as of late where it goes into screen saver mode and fails to come back out of it. The mouse and keyboard are both unresponsive. Sometimes it goes back to the desktop and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to shut it off is to push and hold down on the power button. I have added an HP all in one printer to the computer.

I am buying a G4 Power Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows what the capabilities are of this computer. Can the RAM be upgraded to 2 or 4GB? Graphics card? As far as I know, Leopard can be installed so I am good with the OS. Oh, and a friend told me the Power Mac is like a Mac Pro but older. Is this true? Like can the Power Mac house multiple processors and hard drives?

I inherited a PowerPC G5 Quad Processor (2005?) with 2 video cards and PowerPC G5 dual processor. The hard drives have no OS on them so I'm investigating which OS will run on them. I would really like to put Lion on them, but I'll use whatever will work.

I'm selling my macbook pro, going to do a fresh format before that. But my mac install disk comes with 10.5.6
I want to update it to latest 10.5.8, in order to do that I need to log in an account to perform the update but for that the buyer will not experience the leopard first start up music. How can I update it without creating an account so the buyer can feel like getting a first hand on it?
I've got a Macbook with with Leopard v10.5-something installed. When I installed the latest update and was at about 25% done with the "writing"-part it suddenly failed. I got a message prompting to restart (I think it said that it was something wrong with the source from which it was writing), when I restart the computer I get another message promting me to restart. My backup is a few months old, so I wonder if there is some way around my problem?

Just opened my new macbook pro 15" and when i turned it on (and every time i turn it on), it makes a strange noise. seems to come from the front but it stops after a second or two. almost sounds like it's a disk drive spinning up. Is this normal? It doesn't sound like it's anything bad, it actually sounds like a standard pc based laptop sounds when booting up. I just thought the macbooks were supposed to have almost whisper quiet components. I still love it, and I'm glad I bought it.

I tried to download Safari but it wouldn't work, because apparently, I need the latest security update before I can get Safari to download. I have tried to get the Security to download a few times now and a message stating "Security won't download to your computer". This has become frustrating and I am limited with my mac skills and computer skills in general.
I have the older 10.4.11 core 2 duo osx. I think I am choosing the appropriate software options. (Tiger) I have enough memory left on my computer as well.
I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and the latest updates do not want to install. It downloads fine looks like it installs, but end up with a "An Undexpected Error Occurred." I've had this machine for 3 years now and have never encountered an update problem before.
I've run Disk Repair and results were there were no problems.

mac g5 dual-core 1.8 ghz, 3.6gbram, newly installed ide dvdrom & burner (for pc, actually, works well on mac).sata 160gb hdd. i just got this mac g5 from a a friend, very cheap, its a old mac, but its ok. there is no osx or other operating system installed, the pmu has been resettet, and a new battery for bios has been inserted correctly. now that i cant get or have any leopard osx 10.5.8, i just need any linux os to install, in order to see if the mac is ok.later on, i will buy a second hand legal osx leopard 10.5.8 any tools, i can download, to check for hard disk is present, emery checking at start up / boot up ?, the dvdrom jumper has been set to master. the sata hdd has no jumper. i did now got hands on a linux ubuntu 10.4 lts sio, and burned it with windows 7 and my pc burner (i really don't know if this is the right way to do it, can pc burn the iso correctly ?, even if i can see all the folders and files on the cd ?, which i can!). i tried it, the mac dvdrom works, its reading the cd (pressing the option on power up/ startup).in the startup bios,
i can see linux as a thumbnail picture, which i can select, and the cd loads all necessary drivers to memory etc.then the boot shell screen appears, explaining me to press return key, or choose other option. i did choose pressing the return key. mac is reading the cd, until a few seconds later a black screen appears and nothing happens!.i also tried live install.it could be a graphics driver problem ? ( the graphics card is, i think, a geforce 5500 fx ultra 128mb agp). the mac did work perfect before i got it, with osx and apps, every thing was ok, but my friend gave me this with a clean install, no osx. from this, experience i can see, that the mac cpu, dvdrom, motherboard and, memory / graphics card is working perfect.i am in doubt about the hardddisk, shouldn't the led on the front case blink, meaning it reading from the hard-disk ?.later on i will try the hdd and dvdrom to try different jumper position, and try another linux distro, eventually i should be able get this mac up and running! otherwise i have to get another old mac g5, which i have to pay alot, properly?. hope not. apple wants 100£ for a leopard dvd. they must be kidding!. (i will buy a second hand osx). i just bought an iPhone 4s, and mac mini 2011, a week ago.

I have a Power Mac G4 with dual 1.25GHz Power PC G4 processor with 2Gb SDRAM.I am on OS X 10.5.8.Three questions:
1) Can I go to 10.6 or higher?
2) If I change the processor out to an Intel, can I go higher?
3) Is there any upgrades that would allow me to put a later OS X version on it, and if there is, is it worth upgrading?
I know it's old, but it works fine, and this is my first Mac (I've had it for 1 year - It was given to me), and I am breaking myself slowly from the PC

My cd/dvd drive busted WHILE I was upgrading the OS to 10.5. Now I get the folder with the question mark when I start up, or a blank screen. Other than installing a new cd/dvd drive, how can I install the OS without the drive? I only have other Intel Macs to use, no PPC.I don't believe Firewire/Target disk will help much in this case will it? I don't need any data from the currently unreadable hard drive - luckily had transferred everything ahead of time, but also erased a backup OS 10.4 boot drive too soon.Â
