Power Mac G5 :: Booting Up And Kernel Panics
Oct 10, 2007Last week, after completely normal use, the computer booted up to a screen with the finder icon / flashing question mark. After a few more atempts to power up i started getting just the grey apple screen with spinning wheel and loud fans. I was advised by a friend to boot from the install DVD by holding alt when powering up. When i try this, after selecting the DVD from the boot up options, I get kernel panic and the message " panic: We are hanging here...". Then nothing.

Power Mac G5 :: Frequent Kernel Panics Freeze Up?
Dec 18, 2007I'm using my G5 for both personal use and work so it's on all the time. It has worked flawless with this same hardware config for almost 2 years, but for the past week or so I've had about 4 to 5 kernel panics or complete system freeze a day. This happens when doing web browsing, Final Cut Pro editing, playing a game etc, so basically I can't pinpoint it to a specific application, or to a piece of hardware I've added. I have ran REMBER to test my ram and all seems fine.

Oct 29, 2007For the past two weeks or so I have been getting a lot of Kernel Panics. Most of them happen when I select Restart or Shutdown. There have also been cases of Final Cut Pro crashing regularly, but I think the Kernel Panics are far more important to diagnose. I have not changes any hardware for at least a year. The machine has 4.5gb of RAM and 40% of the system drive free. I have run Disk Utility to repir the disk as well as the permissions, all coming back with no errors. The only thing that I can think of that changed is that I purchased and ran Disk Warrior 4. It seemed to help tremendously with performance, however, it is the only thing that I can think of that has changed. I am also suffering from some performance loss as well. I get at least one Kernel Panic a day. I have no idea what the KP mean, but they all look similar.

Mac Pro :: PicLens On MP Is Sick
Mar 21, 2008I'd forgotten all about PicLens plugin for Firefox when I got my new MP. I'd used it on my iMac but was before they had the 3D Wall. All I can say is "Wow". Browsing Flickr images on that 3D Wall is SICK! The photos loaded quick and flying/zooming along the wall was smooth.Just to compare, I installed the plugin on my T61p ThinkPad with 2.2GHz C2D w/ 2GB of RAM and ran it side-by-side using the same internet connection. On the MP, it rendered pics what seemed like 10 to 1 and the flying/zooming wasn't as smooth on the ThinkPad.
If you're a Flickr junkie like me with a MP, I suggest you give it a try. You'd be amazed. Unfortunately, the 3D Wall effect is not available on Safari.
Power Mac G5 :: New Apple Keyboard Freezes

Every 5 minutes the keyboard freezes for about 15 seconds. My Mighty Mouse and tablet connected to the keyboard won't work as well. I have tried to connect it to other usb ports but there's no difference at all. Please help, as this issue is really frustrating..
Power Mac G5 :: System Freezes Due To Overheating?
Dec 18, 2007Over the last few months I've noticed a trend with my dual 2GHz G5 at home, it often locks up and the fans go full-throttle. It sometimes happens when I'm using it and often when I leave it idling for a while. I've noticed that the CPU A and CPU B temperatures start around 120 degrees F when the machine is first powered up and steadily climbs to around 150. Is that normal? The dual 1.8GHz G5 I have at the office doesn't run hotter than 110 degrees. The fans haven't failed. Is there a coolant link? Is there anything I can do to diagnose this, or do I simply need to call AppleCare?

Power Mac :: Mac Pro Freezes Every 20sec Or So For About 10sec?
Jun 18, 2012ive been having this problem with my mac pro for a while before that it was working smooth with no hassle.now no matter what i do(open a file, browse the net or edit a clip) it freezes roughly about every 20 sec. the mouse pointer still moves and everything but i cant click on anything.

Mar 30, 2012My iMac 24 inch freezes on the apple startup screen, then it takes along time for the cog wheel to start turning, and then that's all you'll get untill you switch off. I've fixed permissions and erased and reinstalled but still same issues, any ideas for what to do next?

There is a logo on the screen that looks like the power button and it says i must resart my computer it is in english and 3 other languages. Why is it doing this? Power Mac G5 :: Fan Runs On High And Won't Wake From Sleep - It Freezes?
Dec 10, 2007I have a G5 (Power PC, g5, Dual 1.8 GHZ with 1.25 GB SDRAM, and Mac OS X 10.4.10-phew!) and I recently: added more USB ports using a PCI card, and purchased a non-Apple 22" widescreen display.
Prior to adding USB ports, I was using a hub that ran off its own power source, and used a Samsung 19" monitor.
My situation now: everything starts up fine, but ultimately the fan will kick in at SUPER HIGH and won't stop. I can put my Mac to sleep--which stops the fan noise--but then it won't wake up.
I have run the Apple Hardware test and everything checks out OK. I've also reset the SMU according to directions from this forum; AND I've vacuumed out all the dust bunnies.
The fan runs so loud and so high it sounds like it's an airplane that's about to take off.
Short of bringing in my Mac to a technician, can you recommend anything? My Mac has been glitch free up until now.

I'm probably bringing it to an Apple certified repair center, but I don't trust them as much as I do the Genius Bar, plus I'm pretty good at DIY stuff, so is it possible to fix this by myself?

Apr 8, 2009I have a macbook pro, bought it May last year(2008). I don't know much about computers, but I loved the transition between pc and mac, had no trouble with it, loved to work with it, until now. I had noticed it became slower like 3 weeks ago, and a week ago, it started to freeze up on me followed by a message that said please restart your computer by pressing the power button and the screen becomes dark. When I try to restart it again, it takes a while because it shuts down again and again, until the 10th time it works. The store told me to clean intall, which I did yesterday, it seemed to have worked, it was faster for sure, but today it happened again, 3 times! Has this happened to anyone? Does somebody know what to do?

Jan 20, 2010I have an older iMac, 2006 white version, running leopard. I am one of the many people who experience semi-frequent freezes which forces me to manually power the machine down. After much research it seems everyone has diagnosed the problem has hardware, specifically the graphics card running hot. I installed smcFancontrol and have ran it for four to five months. Since then I have experienced maybe 4 or 5 freezes, but the freeze occurs while doing nothing "heavy", just browsing in safari or chrome. Has there been any updated or new information concerning this problem? I have scanned the web a little and can't really find anything really recent. The most recent article/discussion i have found is roughly a year old.

Jun 27, 2014So, I have a late 2011 MBP 2GH i7, OSX 10.9.3. 500GB HD 16 BG 1600 Mhz DDR3.
The problems started a while ago when the computer started freezing at random times. The mouse would move and there was no "pinwheel" but the computer was unresponsive. When I closed the screen the power was still on and the screen did not shut off. The only way to reset the computer was to hold the power button and do a hard reset. I don't remember if I replaced the RAM from 4BG to 8GB Crucial Memory before or after the computer started freezing, either way, shortly after or around the time when I replaced the ram the hard drive also failed.
I replaced the HD with I believe a Seagate hybrid drive with a small solid state segment. This whole time the computer is still freezing and now since I have a hybrid drive the Apple store can't support because it's not factory specs and MacMall here in Santa Monica can't find anything wrong with the hardware or software after running all of their tests.
At this time I have a feeling it is the ram so I purchase a new 16GB Crucial RAM. Everything is great till it yet once again freezes in the same way as before BUT!! Now if the computer sleeps because the battery run's low, when I plug it in and the computer reboots (grey opaque screen with the vertical lines as the bottom) it starts beeping 3 times. I hard reset via the power button and the computer boots up as normal (although a little slower).
OS X :: Installing Tiger Over Leopard / Freezes - Hard Reboot From Power Switch
Oct 31, 2010I have a 17" iMac G4 that I was rung Tiger with, then I installed Leopard 10.5. I use this as a second computer. All is fine except that my Epson scanner does not work with 10.5. I've tried the latest drivers. I'd like to reinstall Tiger. I used the 10.5 disc to reformat the drive and start from square one. When I boot from my original Tiger disc it starts opening it's windows, but when I get to the point where I can choose Install or use Disk Utility to reformat from the Tiger disc, all windows freeze and I need to hard reboot from the power switch. Am I correct to assume that 10.5 won't let 10.4 to reinstall. Is this correct?

Nov 18, 2010I tried to locate /Library/Logs/PanicReporter according to this link to no avail. I'm not happy with logging using verbose mode and having to retype it all up. I also don't have it in a network of macs to allow for this technique and I feel as if there's a pretty obvious way of capturing these reports that I'm missing.

Jan 9, 2011I have had the Macbook air 11.6 for five weeks now and it has been rock solid except for a couple of kernel panics. Once when I first got it I got a kernel panic in Safari. I only use google browser now. I got a kernel panic two days ago. I went to open the lid and it did not come on. I found out there was a kernel panic. I am afraid if I take it to the genius bar they will have me reinstall the OS and add one app back at a time to see what is causing it but since they are so infrequent this is obviously not convenient. Also I have had my IMac 24 for three years and have tons more junk on it and have never got one panic.

Never had panics before but since trying to use this card with an esata drive I've had 5 kernel panics. I also have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard which has had two kernel panics during times when the MBP had panics. Can these be related? Before using this card, I never had panics on either machine?

Apr 3, 2010I am currently planning to upgrade my 2gb RAM and I heard that my model supports up to 6GB of RAM, hence I am planning to upgrade to that size cause Aperture uses lots of memory and I use Aperture a lot. I am planning to get it from here: OWC 6GB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz DIMM Upgrade Kit. Everything is cool and all until I find out that some users are having kernel panics on OSX 10.6 with 6GB RAM (which is what I am using). It is now 10.6.3, so anyone care to report if it is safe to use 6GB or the problem still exist?

Apr 20, 2010I've been having a lot of Kernel Panics (you need to restart black screens). I've only just worked out that they almost always occur after the mac has been dormant. For instance, I'll leave the machine on (and the black screen/sleep mode activates instantly), after twenty minutes I come back to the machine, it comes back to life, but within a minute or so it crashes. This seems to be the pattern, it very rarely crashes mid-use. Safari is also nearly always loaded?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Kernel Panics In 10.7.4
May 10, 2012I kid you not, ever since I updated 10.7.4 last night, I've had at least 3 kernel panics, plus it wouldn't wake up from sleep.
Sometimes it seems to crash for no reason at all -- the computer will just be sitting there and I won't be doing anything; granted, I'm sure a skillion processes are running, but no more than I would usually run.
Where are the pertinent logs hiding so I can share them with some wise soul?

Mac Pro :: Getting Kernel Panics When Monitors Connected
Apr 8, 2008I've been using my new Mac Pro with no issues for several weeks with the same hardware setup & OS all along. Suddenly I'm getting kernel panics. It happens when I startup from the system drive or from install disc. And sometimes when I startup it just hangs on the blue screen with no desktop coming onto the screen. It started happening after I did a Carbon Copy Clone of my system drive onto a firewire drive, & when I came back to my computer several hours later the screen was black & white stripes. I've been on the phone with apple care several times and even took my machine to the genius bar today where they recommended a stress test and said I would get it back in 5 - 10 business days (gasp!). Of course there were no kernel panics while I was there (for an hour, and at home I'm getting them every few minutes), so I decided to take it home & check it over myself in a process of elimination.
I've removed all third party ram, and have 2 hard drives installed - the system drive & the drive I use for time machine. The RAM is listed as OK in system profiler and the HD's are verified with Disk Utility - also disk permissions verified & repaired on the system drive. I have 2 Acer monitors - model AL2016W. I tried plugging in one at a time in each DVI port for a total of 4 tests - each with a fresh startup. There were no kernel panics. Then I plugged them both in at the same time, started up, & got the kernel panics. Tried this twice with the same results. With or without any applications open, it's the same. Within 2 - 4 minutes I get a kernel panic when both monitors are plugged in. Later, I got kernel panics with just one monitor connected. So my question is; What could be the reason it's getting kernel panics sometimes & sometimes not? As I said, nothing has changed in my setup since I got the machine - and everything was running fine since mid February.
During my testing I have these connections:
One or two monitors. Power cord. Apple wired keyboard & mouse (these were not connected at the time this started happening so I have eliminated them from the possible source of trouble.) All bluetooth devices are powered off & no other external devices are connected. I just completed the Apple Hardware Test & it detected this error: "4HDD/11/40000004.SATA(0,0)" Does this mean there's something wrong with a hard drive? If so, which one?
