View 12 RepliesI've searched, but I haven't found any info on a situation like mine. I have a 2.5ghz Quad Core G5, it is outfitted with 4 gigs of ram and 2 500gb HD's. Everything was purchased in December of 2005. Over the last 8 months or I have been getting random Kernal Panics. Sometimes the machine will be sitting unused for hours and then I'll come back to it and it's locked up. Other times do not seem to have any pattern, it can be with multiple programs open, just safari, or FCP. The machine always starts right back up with no problems and typically continues to operate for hours or days before reoccurring.
I did the hardware check, and everything tested good. I switched to blutooth keyboard and mouse, and have disconnected all USB devices.I don't seen any signs of leakage.I am pretty much to the point that I assume the logicboard is bad. But I don't really know how to confirm this.
Being that the machine always starts back up and never has problems consistently I really don't know what to think. I wish it could be solved with replacing the ram and/or hard drives. But I just don't know how to determine the actual problem. All I have read is a lot of speculation.
I've been noticing that my early 2008 quad mac pro has been having more frequent kernal panics and is pretty random.I've also noticed that my video card fan(ATI Radeon HD 2600) has been reving up and down and has been more noticeable.Could this be related? Do I need a better card?

Over the last week I've had 2 of what I have now discovered are called "kernal panics". I've had this SR 2.2 for about a year and a half. I had one prior to installing SL last week 1 this week after installing SL. Other than the "You must restart your computer" message following the crash I've not noticed any other problems. I have not installed any RAM or other hardware. I've pasted the kernal panic report with the hope that someone might be able to help decipher what it means and what the issue might be.

My beloved ibook G4 went on strike ; ) !!! As soon as I turn it on a message appears that tells me the
following:
You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.
I've written recently about my kernal panics on my imac g5 I reinstalled the original software and moved on to Tiger and it says "cannot install this on this computer" I have installed it before, it is my software bought free and clear. I don't know what to do. My son's college papers are due and we cannot get on the sites because our flash/etc. is not updated. I am now at 10.3.9 (I go to "about this mac", more info, and my system overview app will bounce on my tool bar and not come up.) I dont know what's going on. My hardware tests all came out clean.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get this error when i try to start the macbook. It tells me to hold down the power button and restart in like many different languages.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI always read about them but I got the first message saying I needed to restart the computer it has not happend for a few hours is this something I need to worry about?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having them 2 to 3 times per day. In my limited research, I know it can be related to memory and I am in the process of pulling out pair by pair to isolate which one may be causing it, but no luck as of yet. Or is it related to something in the operating system. Below is the kernal panic report. [code]

I am having serious issues with my Apple PowerPC G5.. Its the 2.5 Dual Processor version of early 2005 running os x 10.5.8, i have installed; 2x500gb hds along with 4.5gb of ram... Ok now heres the problem, yesterday i came across an app called "CHUD" this apparantly was developed to help speed up an OS X system, so i downlaoded and began to install the parts to the app suite, after installing 1 or 2 of the CHUD apps i came to Reggie SE, i doubled clicked on the install then my G5 decided to freeze, completley! I tried Force Quit and nothing happended, the system would not respond what so ever, so i left it for 30mins or so to see if it would figure itself out and it didnt so i had no alternative but to cut the power and reboot....
Now, after reboot, my G5 will boot up to the User login dialogue, once i enter my password the dialogue accepts my password and dissapears (astho it is logging into my account) but then the screen turns Blue and the system returns to the Username & Password dialogue box..... Also the fans within my system begin to speed up and dont stop for a while, almost sounds like my G5 Tower is about to take off!
I am pretty sure I have just maxed out the space for start up. I can't get past the message box that pops up and says you need to shut down your computer in 4 languages. I so hope this isn't the logic board.
I tried restarting and holding down command option p r and command option n o and unplugging the power cord from the back and plugging it in as I press the start up button. then release the start up button and press again. I cant get past to free up the space or use disk utility. Do I start it from the start up disk holding down the c key and do a reinstall?
I often watch things on my MBP from the internet, I had been using greasemonkey and thought that it was the script causing this panic, but just today it happened and greasemonkey was not enabled. what does this kernal mean>?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi was doing research and this was apparently a very common issue in the final run of G4 ibook 1.33 ghz.Like i said, i searched and found threads relating to this, but i had issues finding whether or not there was ever a conclusion:My girlfriend has an effected ibook, which we wrote off 2 years ago as a bad logic board and it has just been sitting around collecting dust. A friend mentioned the logic board/airport card issue, so I am wondering, is there a fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought the Late 2008 MBP and the USB ports are not registering as 2.0. I have confirmed that it is indeed running at 1.0 speeds through synching my ipod touch through itunes as well as through transferring files from an external hard drive. The transfer speed averages around 1-1.5 mb/sec, which is in line with USB 1.0 speeds.
I've lived with it for a few weeks, but I just got a new ipod nano today and whenever I connect it to my MBP, the screen turns gray and I immediately get this message:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."
I've tried resetting the SMC but to no avail. It hasn't escaped from my attention the possibility that the two problems are interrelated. I haven't been able to find OS X drivers for the USB ports, so right now the only option that I know of is to reinstall leopard. Does anyone know of a simpler solution that wouldn't require a complete reinstall of the OS?
I have a mid 2010 27" iMac and just added 16 gig of new ram (first two slots came with 2 gig each and I bought and had installed two more 8 gig - so I can run Final Cut Pro X) Well, after the new RAM was installed by an apple certified dealer - it kernel crashed about 5 times randomly, which it had never done before - It was obvious it was caused by the new RAM - I took it back and they replaced it - and it has now kernal crashed 6 times - Are 8 Gig Ram cards not compatible with 2010 imacs? These guys seem like they know what they are doing - but enough is enough - I know in Apple's literature they mention that only 2 and 4 gig upgrades are possible - but they said the 8 gigs just came out

I've had it I've gotten twenty kernal errors. After some perusing of the forums I learned this is not a normal thing, which makes me hate it even more. I haven't altered the hardware on my computer at all.

I tried to locate /Library/Logs/PanicReporter according to this link to no avail. I'm not happy with logging using verbose mode and having to retype it all up. I also don't have it in a network of macs to allow for this technique and I feel as if there's a pretty obvious way of capturing these reports that I'm missing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had the Macbook air 11.6 for five weeks now and it has been rock solid except for a couple of kernel panics. Once when I first got it I got a kernel panic in Safari. I only use google browser now. I got a kernel panic two days ago. I went to open the lid and it did not come on. I found out there was a kernel panic. I am afraid if I take it to the genius bar they will have me reinstall the OS and add one app back at a time to see what is causing it but since they are so infrequent this is obviously not convenient. Also I have had my IMac 24 for three years and have tons more junk on it and have never got one panic.
View 23 Replies View RelatedCan kernel panics on one machine somehow cause panics on another machine. My situation, I recently started using a BC338 esata card in my mid 2007 MBP running Leopard. Never had panics before but since trying to use this card with an esata drive I've had 5 kernel panics. I also have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard which has had two kernel panics during times when the MBP had panics. Can these be related? Before using this card, I never had panics on either machine?
