The new flat white keys are getting dusty. With the old white keyboards I was able to pull each key, put them into a suck and throw them into the washer machine and that was it But, can I pull this keys? And they are so easy to leak any cleaner to the inside and loose the entire keyboard. Any suggestions for cleaning? Other than covering the keys with some plastic protector.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently use a keyboard protector (Moshi clearguard) on my MBP but after usage, the protector makes the keyboard really ugly to look at. It isn't as "clear" as many people have reviewed. Anyway, when I try using it without the protector, the oil from my fingertips (my fingers feel dry!) seem to make the keys glossy (the nasty kind of glossy)
I realize that I can use the keyboard without the protector, and then scrub it down every week but that seems like a huge hassle.
Is there a way I can make the keys look exactly like they look without the protector and still make it resistant from the gloss from the skin oil?
Maybe apply a small special film on each of the keys? or get some professional coating done on the keys?
The Moshi protector seemed somewhat clear when I first used it but after time, it really isn't clear and makes the keyboard look dirty
A couple days ago I accidentally spilled lemonade all over my room. I didn't think I had gotten any on my keyboard, but apparently I did, as some of my keys are now sticky and really hard to press. Is there any way that I can 'unstick' these myself, or do I have to take it to my nearest tech store? (fyi my keys are most sticky under the keyboard and not on top of them). The computer is a 2010 MacBook Pro. Also, is there a way to clean the surface of your keys? I'm not too thrilled about the way they look right now and I would like to try and get them back to what they looked like when I bought it.

The a, q, w and z keys on my keyboard have all swapped around (not physically, but when I press 'q' an 'a' is typed etc), none of the numbers and punctuation keys are in the right places either and I have no idea why.

My spacebar on the left side is greasier/oilier and used than the right side b/c i type incorrectly but faster for me in which I use my left thumb to hit the space bar.I know on my old HP laptop, the keys got all oily and greasy looking after a while. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't think I can clean it probably just have to deal with it

View 10 Replies View RelatedI tend to use alot of my F-keys in Windows through bootcamp, but certain F-keys with secondary functions on the mac keyboard such as changing the brightness or volume up and down (as an example), keep functioning when I press them.
I did shut off the secondary F-key functions in the Mac system preferences, hoping it would stay inactive when I'm in Windows. Unfortunately they still turn my brightness up and down when, let's say, I hit the F1 or F2 keys in Windows.
Does anybody know any way to shut this off in Windows? Does it have to do with any drivers installed?
Someone spilled something on my delete key and it was pretty sticky so I decided to take it out and clean it. After a few minutes of picking the key to get it out, it relinquished itself and I wiped it off. I then put it back on and now it simply doesn't work when I press it. Am I going to have to go to the professionals to fix it? I later did the same to my Volume Up key to see how I may have screwed up the delete key and it inevitably messed up as well. For a short time my trackpad wouldn't tap when I tapped it so I had to go into the system preferences and turn off the function of the trackpad ignoring accidental taps on the keyboard or something for it to work, so my delete key must currently be pushed down but not functioning correctly (I don't know). Then I somehow crewed up my keyboard shortcuts and now some functions work while others do nothing. On word I can use the shortcuts to save and underline, but can't use them to bold and undo. I use the latter more than the former and I don't have a clue as to why this has happened.

The mouse works fine but the keys don't work at all [I'm using keyboard viewer to type now]. I plugged my 60gb external hard drive into it a few times this week, could that have something to do with it. I just plugged my keyboard in and it 'pushed buttons' on it's own. it held down the command keys, arrow keys, f12, etc.

Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have one of the new Macbook Pros. The F4 key has a little picture of the dashboard on it, hit that key and the dashboard pops up. I don't use dashboard enough to have it warrant its own key. So I don't want that, I want what I had on my iBook - I hit one of the function keys and Expose shows me the open windows for the application I'm in. I think fine, I'll just repurpose the F4 key. So into keyboard>keyboard shortcuts in system preferences, double click the Expose shortcut for Application Windows and make it F4.
The Dashboard still pops up for F4. Go into the keyboard tab and check the box that reads: "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" and tada, the F4 key now does what I want. But obviously the volume keys etc now don't. So I thought I'd just go into keyboard shortcuts and set all the shortcuts to match the pictures on the keys. But I can't find most of them. I've got to be missing a trick - I know if I uncheck that function keys box again I can make expose pop up by holding fn and F4 but I don't want that, I just want F4 to bring up expose instead of the dashboard while the rest of the function keys do what Apple designed them to.
So a few days ago I spilt tea on my MBP. When I opened it back up everything seemed to be in working condition, however a few of my keys were sticky. So, yesterday I took them off and started cleaning. That's when things went down hill.
Now, my keyboard will type two letters at the same time. For example, when I press "r" it will type "ry". It does this for the whole row. The Dashboard key brightens the screen and brings up the dashboard. 4 types 46. f types fh. v types vn. And space doesn't space.
All of a sudden my keyboard isn't working right. The caps lock doesn't work/the tab key isn't working and the escape key isn't working. Now this happened before and I fixed it and have no clue what i did. There is quite a few keys and tricks I don't know.

Any clues on how to fix this? I called the apple support line and we don't think it was anything to do with the settings in 'universal settings'. I'm not sure what else to do and this is one time I do wish I had a man in the house?! Or at least someone else who has half a clue! I rely haven't had many problems with my MacBook 'till now. I just recently got a white Macbook 2007 and after I installed snow leopard on it I realised that the I,K and LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN keys were not working and so I installed leopard on it and still had the same problem I booted into safe mode on both but still no luck and this morning the Z key stop working I turned of mouses keys and that still did not work.
