View 1 RepliesIs there a keyboard shortcut for switching search engines in Safari's search box (I believe Chrome had this feature before they got rid of the search box in the latest version)? The arrow on the left-hand side is cumbersome.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo it's great they fixed Glims so quickly for Safari 4, but I can't get it to work with the added search engines thing. Anyone else having this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have only recently discovered that mac is by far better than microsoft. However, I have always been fond of firefox, and especially the search toolbar where you could add search engines as google books, google scholar, jstor, project muse etc. to. Does Safari have the offer the same opportunities? I have wasted over two hours to find out, but was unable to find it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a MacBook Air (2010) with the last version of Maverick.
When I am using a search engine (google, yahoo, etc...) I am REDIRECTED to a false "search result list" full of publicity.
How can I solve my problem?

I clicked on a link on Facebook and now my search engine is 'only search' which seems to be showing loads of adverts instead of information. How can I uninstall this and revert to google as my search engine?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to add a Glims custom search engine for MacRumors forums. However, the search URL doesn't actually have the search terms in it, it comes up as [URL:...] with a string of numbers at the end. As a result, the standard Glims method of making new engines doesn't work. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

If I search files in my local server using "File->Find" in Finder, zero item are showing. Search option is not working for local servers. Here, I didn't use Spotlight option for searching. Since, In Spotlight option, there is no option to search files in "Servers".

View 1 Replies View Relatedim on a mac pro running 10.5.6 and the search function doesnt seem to be working very well anymore. I am talking about the little search box in the top right corner of a finder window. I type text in and it just doesnt find the files I am looking for. I can browse to them and locate them but search wont find them.
Is there some way i need to be re-indexing my HD from time to time? I would expect this for spotlight but I thought the finder search was different...
When I search for certain words, it won't find any. When I type in a letter, it searches for the wrong letter or symbol. For example, if I type in "A" it searches for "C" and when I search for "C"it searches for "N". What's wrong?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe search feature in Lion/Mail will not find names or words in the "Subject" category even when I know they exists. I use mail for my business and often need to find old emails from clients..... the new search feature in Lion does not work. How can Apple release a product with such a obvious flaw?
Other problems with mail..... • When I open mail no new mail will appear in my "in box" until I select another mail box like "trash" or "Sent".... then the new mail will appear. • The "Hide Mail" feature is greyed out when mail is open.... there's no way to hide mail. • The scroll down bar on the right side of the window is hidden until you drag the edge of the frame over to reveal it. • Windows are locked and can't be moved. I've been using Apple products from the earliest days in the 1980's and quite frankly have been shocked at some of the things Apple is screwing up these days. From the Final Cut Pro conversion to Final Cut X disaster that has sent thousands of professional editors running to other products, to these seemingly small but irritating flaws with the new software being released before these problems have been addressed. A search feature that does not work?
I'm using a PowerPC G5 dual 2GHz with OS X V10.5.8 with all updates installed that have been released as of this date. I've looked at a number of other topics here and elsewhere and have tried a number of ways to get this to work:
I tried using Onyx and one or two other system tools that offer the ability to rebuild the Spotlight indexes. (I've made sure that Spotlight is enabled on the volume where my mail folders live, of course.)
I've also tried that from a Terminal window:
<p> <code>$ sudo mdutil -E</code>.
I tried the following command to force the mail message files to be reimported: <p><code>$ mdimport -r /System/Library/Spotlight/Mail.mdimporter</code>
...all to no effect. And repairing permissions and then repeating any of the above doesn't help.
I have spotlight configured to not index the folder ~/Development, because it contains a lot of jars and I couldn't figure out how to turn off indexing of jars.
1) I open finder to ~/Development/Foobar, which is a folder containing other folders containing files ending in ".png".
2) I go to the search field in the toolbar and type "png", switch the search mode to "File Name", but nothing is found.
It looks like Finder's search function is completely broken if the folder being searched is not indexed by spotlight. Finder should search without the indexes instead, or the search field should be disabled if it is broken.
Is there an way to search a folder that is being excluded from spotlight indexing? How do I prevent spotlight from indexing the contents of jar files?

Since the latest upgrade of 10.9.3 my and other office computers have problems with searches using spotlight and Finder search on internal, external and networked volumes. This is a big roadblock to our office workflow. Reindexing doesn't fix the issue and we can see clearly that the files we are searching for are there.
View 3 Replies View Relatedtoday i was on my macbook and realized that all of my alert sounds were not working. for example, if i got a new message in ichat or new email there would be no sound. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem where my mail App is not searching the entire body of the message any more. I installed Lion soon after it was released, and I believe that it has been working up until recently.
If I do a search, it won't search the message body, and gives me no option to search for "Message contains" (just "People" and "Subjects"). If search for subject "foo" and then click on the "Subject" pull down menu, it shows "Subject" and "Entire Message", but "Entire Message" is greyed out.
I've done a lot of web searching and most people with similar problems had problems with Spotlight. If I do a Spotlight search, it does find all of the mail messages correctly. Its just the Mail app that won't let me search.
I haven't tried re-indexing spotlight yet because spotlight seems to be working okay. Note that all of my mail accounts are "POP" accounts with the mail stored locally on my machine.

I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed. I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem... This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari? How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice?
