Software :: Update Safari 4.1.2 To Newer Version?
I tried the new version (or what is supposed to be the new version of Safari for Tiger, but it loads as Safari 4.1 Tiger, and will not install because it says there is a newer version installed already. What is Apple doing? Did they simply rename version 4.1 as 4.1.2 and expect it to install?

Software :: When I Download It, It Says There Is Already A Newer Version Installed?
I've been a Mac user for a few years now, and really love the apps on the Mac, and 99% of the time, never need anything thats on Windows. However, the time has come that I need to open a windows app via Darwin. Its asking me to install x11.app - which I've tried to do, but when I download it, it says there is already a newer version installed. I've never heard of, let alone installed x11.app before, so this confused me a little. I've come onto these forums, and had a little search, to which I found out that you need to do something with the original OS disks to install x11.app via the install disk. I no longer have the install disks - I moved house 6 months ago, and had 3 boxes lost in transit, (Including my PS3, nearly 50 games a DVD player and all CD's / DVD's ) - and have never recovered them. Is there any other way I can get this app to install?

I ran verify disk on Onyx and it told me the disk needed repair and that I needed to run disk utility from the cd. 1. is there any difference between the 10.2 disk utility and the newer 10.4 version that might corrupt the system? 2. Snow Leopard :: Safari Cannot Be Installed On This Disk
I installed a plugin for safari and later decided I didn't need it and attempted to uninstall it. Unfortunately the plugin was still active and I couldn't understand what the problem was. I decided to try uninstalling & reinstalling Safari 4. I uninstalled it using AppZapper. When I tried to reinstall it by downloading the DMG from Apple's site I noticed it said "Safari for Leopard" (not snow leopard). I decided to try it anyway but it didn't work. When it asked me to select a destination it says, "Safari can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 5.8 or newer". Is there any simpler way to get Safari back without doing an archive and install? Information: Unibody 15" Macbook Pro (MacBookPro5,1) Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Mac Safari :: Another Version 5 Install Failure And Startup
I just ran Software Update on my iMac (5,1) and installed Safari 5. After being asked to restart, the machine shut down and began to restart. It ran through a short install period with a status bar and then on to the twirling loading icon. That's where it stops, every time. I've tried clearing the PRAM and starting in Safe Mode but it always results in this same startup scheme. The twirling loading icon ran for over four hours on the first reboot attempt; subsequent attempts were anywhere from a few minutes to an hour with the same failure. Through the miracle of Google, I found a thread, I booted from my Snow Leopard DVD, Ran Disk Utility, verified the disk, then attempted to repair it. The disk passes the SMART check, so I'm assuming that it is at least in good health hardware-wise. The errors I'm getting: Invalid leaf record count (should be 817 instead of 818). Checking catalog file: invalid sibling link. Rebuilding catalog b-tree: Volume repair complete. Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required. Error: Disk utility can't repair this disk. This then leads to the awesomely-helpful, "Disk Utility stopped repairing "Macintosh HD". Disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files." I am now going to be the world's most dyed-in-the-wool Firefox user by the time this is over. DiskWarrior time? I can't even get it to boot to single-user mode. Before I reformat the disk, if there is a log I can recover from it. Information: iMac (5,1) / MacBook Pro (3,1) Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I have a version 6.0 and 9.0 of Filemaker Pro, but neither will allow me to read the old database. Might have to step up from version to version and convert. OS X Tiger :: Newer Version Of Firefox Compatible?
I still have my older Mac OsXv10.4 Tiger software. I wasn't exactly happy with Safari browser as it would block many sites and were considered incompatible so I downloaded the free Firefox browser (the 2.0 version) of which I still have. I'm aware that there is a much newer version and would like to download that, but I've heard a lot of people saying they have been having severe problems with it, but then they have PCs and not Macs. So my question is for you Mac users that use Firefox, have you had major problems with the newer version? I'm real hesitant to download if I'm going to have the same problem PC users are having...like constantly crashing. Also would my old Tiger software be compatible? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard.
