MacBook Pro :: Installed Safari 5.0 On Brand New Macbook - Massively Slower Than Version 4.0.5?
Jul 6, 2010
I have installed Safari 5.0 on my brand new macbook and it is massively slower than version 4.0.5. It's taking up to 10 seconds to access some websites. How can I uninstall it? (Should I uninstall it?)
so i installed a dev preview of safari 4, but now want to switch back. i deleted the old safari, but when i go to install safari now it says this disk already has a newer version of safari installed. what can i do?
Update version number> can't be installed on this disk. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume..when i'm trying to install microsoft office 2011
I'm operating on a MacBook Air that i recently updated to OS X 10.9.2. Along with the update, Java 7 was installed. I need to have Java 6 Update 20 installed to use some programs on this computer for work. I've gotten the files to install that update, but when I attempt to do so I receive a message stating that I cannot install on my disk. A newer version is already installed.
I've gone into finder > Go to Folder and deleted the Java folder after uninstalling java in the first place. This has not fixed my issue.
just came home from Apple Store today with new computer and superdrive, which is not showing up when plugged in. When I put a CD in it reads it for a few seconds then spits it out. I am on the road so getting to an Apple Store will not be easy for the next week.
Info: MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.
I tried to install FaceTime on my MacBook Pro, but got the message that my operating system was too new! (Can you believe there's a typo in the pop-up alert? How could Apple spell Macintosh wrong?) In another thread someone was able to solve this problem by doing a Spotlight search for FaceTime. Well, I know I don't have it because I deleted it. I can't get it back and I can't download it.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - 17"
I just bought the macbook air (1.6/80) at bestbuy for 1299. It was the last sealed box, woot. Curious though, this doesn't occur on my other laptop so I know it's not bandwidth issues. I am watching office at full screen, half way into it the video starts to stutter bad. I don't mind the cpu fans going full speed, or the heat, because that's the nature, however I can't stand the stuttering. Has anyone had experience in Revision 1 and watching hulu and getting it not to stutter half way into the episode?By the way nothing else is opened and/or running. Just safari. I also installed Flash 10 and updated the MBA completely with 3.2 safari
I had problems with the existing installation (10.6.8) ==> only Safari. Therefor I mad the update to the current version today, the problem is different but Safari stays effected. A Reinstallation of Maverik is not solving the issue ==> the same error stays alive ...
I've been a Mac user for a few years now, and really love the apps on the Mac, and 99% of the time, never need anything thats on Windows. However, the time has come that I need to open a windows app via Darwin. Its asking me to install x11.app - which I've tried to do, but when I download it, it says there is already a newer version installed. I've never heard of, let alone installed x11.app before, so this confused me a little.
I've come onto these forums, and had a little search, to which I found out that you need to do something with the original OS disks to install x11.app via the install disk. I no longer have the install disks - I moved house 6 months ago, and had 3 boxes lost in transit, (Including my PS3, nearly 50 games a DVD player and all CD's / DVD's ) - and have never recovered them.
Is there any other way I can get this app to install?
Would very much like to know which version of lion will be on my system when I perform the Lion internet recovery. I assume it downloads the latest build so I do not need to update Lion again. I also assume that there will be no difference in Lion version when I perform an erase and install or just an install over the existing installation.
as I try to open either one, a small winddow promps me that I need a newer version of either one but as I go to software update, I'm told that my software is up-to-date. What to do now?
I recently switched from Safari 5.0.3 to Chrome on my Mac, and I noticed, that Street View scrooling doesn't work as smooth on Chrome as on a Safari.
That made me wonder, so I started running different Flash demos , and it looks that Flash running from Chrome is rather significantly slower than the one for Safari...
Could anyone confirm this? They appear to be the same versions.
Now I started using Chrome 8 beta , enabled hardware acceleration, and it's not as slow as Chrome 7, but still clearly slower than Safari.
Ever since upgrading to OSX 10.7.4, Safari has been very slow loading websites that normally are very fast. When I open Safari or load a page I get the spinning ball for as long as fifteen seconds. This is especially problematic when I initially open Safari in the morning after my iMac has been asleep for several hours.
I presently have a 13" MacBook Pro (First-Gen Unibody from Late 2008) running Windows XP in Boot Camp and Snow Leopard. I'm about to buy a new 13" MacBook Air to replace my MBP and will need to install Windows in Boot Camp (for work and for gaming).Which version(s) of Windows can I install in Boot Camp on a new MBA? I heard that only Windows 7 can be installed but would like to verify if this is correct.
I phoned up AppleCare and they are kind enough to mail me back two recovery discs free of charge (they are white instead of grey, and printed as replacement discs)
Today I tried to boot from the disc to see if it works, after I chose the language, there's a msg saying "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer" and the two options that I have is to restore from Time Machine or restart.
So I checked the version of the disc in OSX, I discover that it's actually 10.6.1, instead of 10.6.2 which ships with Core i5/i7 iMacs.
Then I phone up AppleCare yet again to see if they have send me the correct disc. The guy asked of my serial number and after a while of checking, he said they have sent me the right disc. They say the discs that come along with the core i5/i7 are actually 10.6.1 as he sees from his system.
If I want to do a clean install of OSX I have to delete and format the volume first, he said.
I am not convinced, how come a recovery disc version could differ from the one that's actually installed?
All of a sudden can't play videos. I get a message that the correct version of flash is not installed. I have download the lastest flash version for my operating system but still can't play videos. I still get the same message - flash is not installed. If I check system preferences, flash is listed as installed. If I check for plug- ins in Safari I do not see flash. What do I need to do?
The App Store is showing that an update to Facetime is available, but the update is v 1.0.2 and the installed version is newer; 1.1.1. When I click the update button I get a dialog that "FaceTime can't be installed on "Macintosh HD" becuase the version of Mac OS S is too new." The App Store continues to show this update is available, how do I get rid of it?
I would like to try the FCP but as I downloaded a trial version of it yesterday I was informed, during installing, that I need at least Mavericks to run it. Im on 10.8.5 Mountain Lion (on a 15"MBPR) and do not wish to upgrade OS. Is this possible?
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
Has anyone else noticed that Safari is painfully slow the last few weeks? Mostly the problems are with gmail and facebook, but all sites are slower than Firefox. With both gmail and facebook, I can login fine, but when I click on something (a mail message, a person, a picture), it times out.
I've tried resetting safari several times to no luck. Firefox works fine. I'm having the same issues on my mac mini as well as my MBP. Both have 4GB Ram.
I installed a trial of iWork 09 yesterday to get a feel for it, liked it so went out today and purchased the box from my local Apple Store. I know about the whole not needing a serial number now however it is asking me for one since the install on all three applications. I removed the trial and all evidence of it and restarted my macbook before installing the box.
Yesterday, I downloaded around 1000 new fonts and installed them, all fine yesterday, but today, Safari, Firefox and Chrome are all using really whacky fonts from those that I downloaded. It happens in google and some webpages, but it's really annoying. I've been through all the preferences, defaults, fontbook (and deleted all the ones with major errors) and I deleted the font that it was using, until it chose another one, trying to fix it but with no luck
