I have a late 2010 iMac - Lion 10.7.4 - Safari 5.1.7.Sure my eyes are crook (not good) these days, but my glasses work a treat.I run my screen at 2560x1440 which gives a beautiful picture, however some items appear small, this problem is amplified in Safari. In Safari preferences
Under "Appearance".What are the correct settings for standard and fixed-width font? I have the "Default encoding" set as Western (ISO Latin 1)Under "Advanced".In Universal Acess I have selected "Never use a font sizes smaller than - 18 What should it be? I often have to reduce that to 12 to make the fonts in many web pages unscramble and align correctly.

In Mac OS, it seems that Helvetica is a common-default font (Mail, etc.) and I really like the look of it, etc., but I am wondering if my Windows-using-peers will be able to see the same font when I send over Word/Excel documents in that font? Or will it convert to some other font for them?

My new pretty Retina Display MacBook Pro is sitting here on a vented metal stand doing nothing and the temperature (according to iStat) on one of the GPU diodes is 164°F. It's hot to the touch. Is that normal?

As the title says i have migrated from Vista to OSX and im looking for a way to change all the fonts used by Leopard to one of my choosing.I find all standard fonts on either Windows or OSX too large and ugly and on Vista i used FontSelector to change the font and size across the system. What is the alternative for OSX?

Is this possible yet? I've already done it so that text under 12 px is not smoothed but I wish there was a way to do this system-wide.

These old eyes really need bigger fonts on my beautiful MacBook Pro. It is so easy to do in Windows. Why would it not be possible with my MacBook Pro? All the menus, tabs, icon titles, etc. fonts need to be bigger. It is not ergonomically correct to have to sit so close to my MacBook Pro.

I'm new to IMac and I did a quick search and found nothing. I got an IMac less than 24hrs ago. With the IMac I find that I struggle to read things even with my glasses on. Is there any possible way of changing the system font so I can make it larger? Trying to read things on the imac is actually giving me a headache because my eyes are straining so much.
I'm using FireFox which is great because once you make the page larger (cmd & +) it remembers so when you go back there the page is still large and readable but things like the toolbar is unreadable. Some sites I've been on even with the page zoomed in some of the writing remains tiny and unreadable. I have the 27" IMac and to have the toolbar font so small on such a big screen seems very silly to me because it's unreadable.

I am new to the "mac world" ... just got my first macbook about a week ago so this question may have a very simple answer or it may not.
The issue I have is that in System Preferences, "Universal Access" has a bigger font size than any other window under S. Preferences. Nothing is affected, everything works well, but it just bothers me, is there any way to fix this?
I am attaching a screen of Universal Access compared with a window of normal font size.

I noticed that my macbook was getting getting very hot every now and then, so I installed smcFanControl, and set it up, so that it would run at 1800 when it was on battery power, 2400 when it was plugged in, and 3500 for when i was making heavy use of it.Now, two days later, im hearing this weird sound when ever the fan reaches 1900rpm, and im really worried that i might have screwed up the fan. The macbook its only 2 months old, so the fan is practically new.

All other articles I've seen online and on this site have been utterly useless for information on how to reformat this drive to a standard format. It has to be possible because all it is is a standard usb thumb drive.
I don't care if it gets rewritten as I've made a copy of it, and besides, if I really need the os to be installed again I'll just take it to the Genius Bar to have it done.
I'm looking for someone who really knows there stuff with terminal and permissions and all of that stuff to shed a little light on this subject.

When I download a DMG via Safari, the usual steps once the download completes is "verifying disk image...mounting disk image...cleaning up" and then it should be complete in the downloads window. however, i've been having this issue where the download gets stuck at "cleaning up". to get it to get out of the download window, i have to quit out of safari after it asks me if i'm sure i want to quit since there is an active download in progress (even though it is technically done downloading).
the files are labeled with the .download extension so i have to mess with the file name and open the DMG manually. does anyone know about this issue and how i can fix it? it is a nuisance to me and i don't recall when it first started.

I recently took my iMac into a Mac store to get a new hard drive because the old one bit the dust. When I got back home, I realized that the apple "genius" spelt my name wrong as the admin. I know its' not a big deal but this bugs me to death. So, I made a new admin with my correctly spelled name and deleted the mispelled name. Is this ok or is this going to jack up my computer?

I recently used migration assistant to transfer my data from my old iMac and operating system to my new iMac operating 10.7.3. The results are mess, mostly it seems from transferring 2 users over. Now I want to remove everything and start over. This time I will only transfer my account. How do I remove the mess and start over?

Despite the unbridled enthusiasm among bloggers for Google's newly announced free WebM codec, a digital video expert has reviewed the new VP8 specification and delivered a severely deflating technical analysis, noting that it decodes video slowly, is buggy, and copies H.264 closely enough to all but guarantee patent issues. What could possibly go wrong? The knee jerk reaction to Google's announcement was to ask whether Microsoft and Apple would immediately jump to support the new codec, given that the two companies offer the default choice in web browsers to nearly all desktop users, and given Apple's strong influence over mobile devices.

I just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.
