View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an aluminum macbook and I just bought a monitor for it. I want to have the macbook closed on a vertical stand but I am concerned about heat problems. Does anyone use their macbook on the vertical stand most of the time and if so do you encounter any heat problems? and are there any stands out there that cool it as well so you don't have to worry about over heating?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm considering buying/making a stand for my MBP but have limited desk space, so what I ideally want is a stand which will hold my laptop, fully opened, with its screen completely vertical against, say, the wall behind my desk. If this is hard to imagine, think of it this way: say you're looking at the laptop from the right hand side, in it's normal open position it makes a kind of '9-o-clock' shape with the screen perfectly vertical and the keys perfectly horizontal. I'm looking for more of a '7-o-clock' but where the screen is raised to eye level, whilst still perfectly vertical
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a quick forum search and didn't come up with anything. I'm looking for a vertical stand for my Macbook to use while at home. I need to free up some desk space and that looks like the perfect solution. Alternatively I'm thinking of building a shelf under the desk to slide it in while I'm using the external monitor.
View 3 Replies View Relatedfar I've found 2 options:- The insanely priced Balmuda (seriously, who buys this stuff?)- The much more reasonable PowerSupport stand..not sure if PS ship to UK though, have emailed to ask.Any other alternatives out there? Right now it's sitting on a box under the desk, not cool.

View 6 Replies View RelatedLets say the battery been use extensively to the point where full charge will only last like an hour. Does it mean in time, the battery will weaken to the point to where you can't even turn on the macbook pro anymore? I was hoping that since the places I am traveling will have an electrical outlet. I wouldn't think I would need battery life for over 3 hours.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my macbook was getting getting very hot every now and then, so I installed smcFanControl, and set it up, so that it would run at 1800 when it was on battery power, 2400 when it was plugged in, and 3500 for when i was making heavy use of it.Now, two days later, im hearing this weird sound when ever the fan reaches 1900rpm, and im really worried that i might have screwed up the fan. The macbook its only 2 months old, so the fan is practically new.

Do full formats eventually ruin hard drives?
I have a MacBook pro 13" that I bought around April 2010 (right when they switched to the 4GB of RAM and GeForce 320M video card)The original problem started with my trackpad movements becoming very sluggish. This eventually led to a complete lockup at the apple screen. I did everything suggested in previous posts (reset pram ECT). Nothing worked so I reinstalled OSX and everything was fixed.
About a week later the problem started again with the same exact outcome. Now after reinstalling a third time, I have this very wierd screen on my screen. Its hard to explain so please see pictures. After sitting on the apple logo for about 5 min, this is now my screen...
Does anyone here have Limewire for Mac? I want to know if it will mess my comp up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I download a DMG via Safari, the usual steps once the download completes is "verifying disk image...mounting disk image...cleaning up" and then it should be complete in the downloads window. however, i've been having this issue where the download gets stuck at "cleaning up". to get it to get out of the download window, i have to quit out of safari after it asks me if i'm sure i want to quit since there is an active download in progress (even though it is technically done downloading).
the files are labeled with the .download extension so i have to mess with the file name and open the DMG manually. does anyone know about this issue and how i can fix it? it is a nuisance to me and i don't recall when it first started.
I recently took my iMac into a Mac store to get a new hard drive because the old one bit the dust. When I got back home, I realized that the apple "genius" spelt my name wrong as the admin. I know its' not a big deal but this bugs me to death. So, I made a new admin with my correctly spelled name and deleted the mispelled name. Is this ok or is this going to jack up my computer?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently used migration assistant to transfer my data from my old iMac and operating system to my new iMac operating 10.7.3. The results are mess, mostly it seems from transferring 2 users over. Now I want to remove everything and start over. This time I will only transfer my account. How do I remove the mess and start over?

Despite the unbridled enthusiasm among bloggers for Google's newly announced free WebM codec, a digital video expert has reviewed the new VP8 specification and delivered a severely deflating technical analysis, noting that it decodes video slowly, is buggy, and copies H.264 closely enough to all but guarantee patent issues. What could possibly go wrong? The knee jerk reaction to Google's announcement was to ask whether Microsoft and Apple would immediately jump to support the new codec, given that the two companies offer the default choice in web browsers to nearly all desktop users, and given Apple's strong influence over mobile devices.
View 39 Replies View Relatedhad a bootcamp partition which I eventually ended up removing again with the bootcamp assistant. Now I want to create the bootcamp partition again, and when I start up the assistant, there is a 5gb leftover partition of the old bootcamp it seems. I just can't resize it... I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5
I tried using camptune (which only works if you already have a working bootcamp partition, which I dont.
I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a stand for my Macbook Pro (particularly looking for an aesthetically pleasing one). On the Apple website there are 2 choices...the Griffin Elevator, the Rain Design mStand, and the Matias iFold. In your opinion is there one of these that's any better than the others? Which one would you go for?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying reorganize my desk a bit I am looking for a good monitor stand (I guess this is what you would call such an accessory) . I have a 15" mbp and a 20" external dell monitor. Right now I just have my macbook sitting beside my monitor in clam shell mode. It occurred to me that this is a giant waste of good desk space. The solution I have pictured in my head is some kind of stand that I can put my monitor on that has enough space under it for my closed mbp (with enough space for decent ventilation too). So if anyone knows of a nice stand that would do that, I would love to hear about it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an 11" MacBook Air and I'm loving it! I'm using it with the 24" Apple cinema display and was wondering what some of you are using as a stand. There doesn't seem to be much available to accommodate the smaller size. I'm currently using an mStand that I had from owning my just recently sold MBP. I'm considering a TwelveSouth BookArc, but I'm not sure if it will fit the 11" Air. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm looking for something that's not only aesthetically pleasing, but also something with a smaller footprint that will free up some desk space. Please share your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and solutions!
How do ya'll "hold" your Airs when you're on the couch, etc? My last few years of Apple notebooks have all been 15"ers (PowerBooks/MBPs) and I've always used a 15" iLap vs. putting the warmer-than-I-like notebook directly on my lap. I'm reading that the Airs run cooler than the MBPs, so I'm wondering if I'll even need a 13" iLap for it. Just curious how everyone manages theirs.
